It's still wild to me how abusive players are. Refs in other sports would never allow this. Refs should have more protection and authority and not have to deal with this...

I couldn't agree more. Tennis really needs to address this. And the thing is, if there were meaningful consequences, the players would absolutely change their behavior. However, at this point, there is no incentive to change. It's a terrible look, and it has unfortunately filtered down to the junior levels as well.

@@nathantj594 Players in those Sports get punished hard every single time if they talk like this to the refs. Tennis umpires have to take insane amounts of abuse until they're allowed to take action. The only thing that deserves immediate punishment according to the rules is explicitly saying that the umpire is corrupt. Have you ever seen the stuff Kyrgios says to umpires when he loses his sh*t? In any other sport, Kyrgios would be ejected and suspended for several weeks for less than 10% of the things he says on court. Tennis players act like this because they can easily get away with it. Think about it: you can tell the umpire, to his face, that he his a clown, all you get is warning. You would need to offend him multiple times to get a point penalty and a bunch more to eventually be defaulted. In football, for example, you say that to the ref once, and you immediately get a yellow card. Another offense and you're out of the game.

Personally I can see both sides. It's fairly well-known clay court etiquette that if you rub out the mark on a close call, you're accepting that the ball was in. It's a clear message to the umpire to say: "no need to check the mark, I concede the point". However, I can see why Andrey assumed this wouldn't apply on a court with Hawkeye, as him rubbing out the mark doesn't affect his ability to challenge, as it would on a court without it. Plus it isn't technically a "rule" afaik, just an expectation.

I swear at least 50% of player-umpire arguments could be solved if the umpire was better at explaining their decision. Like, the third clip with the controversial let call, the second player is whining about the first player calling for the “let,” and how it should be a hindrance, and this umpire is saying “No because I was distracted by the ball being dropped.” It doesn’t matter what distracted you, the sensible reason for why you call a let and not a hindrance there is because you should’ve called the let before the player asked for it. Admit that it was your bad and if not for your error, the player wouldn’t have had a reason to speak during the point, and it probably would’ve ended the discussion.
