About Darren Cahill:
Darren Cahill, an Australian tennis coach and former professional player, earned the nickname "Killer" during his youth due to his prowess on the court. Despite being small in stature initially, he excelled in tennis, shedding the "Little" from his moniker after a significant growth spurt at 17. Cahill turned professional in 1984 and achieved notable success, winning his first tour doubles title in 1985 and his first top-level singles title in 1988.

I greatly admire DC for his impact on my two favorites, Jannik and Simona, propelling both of them to greatness. Regarding his emphasis on day-to-day goals, while it may yield short-term benefits, I have reservations about its long-term efficacy. Establishing daily objectives necessitates a larger overarching goal to strive towards. Without a substantial end goal, one may lack the champion mindset DC himself highlighted at some point, creating a potential contradiction. To elaborate, while setting daily goals to secure victories in specific matches or tournaments is a commendable approach, but in my opinion it's essential to periodically reassess and elevate these objectives. Otherwise, the human psyche tends to acclimate to the status quo, gradually viewing these smaller goals as the ultimate achievement. We want to see Jannik elevating himself towards that ultimate goal, which for me is becoming the new big shot in men's tennis. Because he has all the weapons and the potential to become the one. Side note: I couldn't help but chuckle, you know what also stands for BS... 😅

Lovely chat guys. One of the many great things about tennis and the required mind-set, that applies to virtually everything in life, is how we handle failure in general and mistakes in particular. Tennis teaches us that making a mistake isn't a calamity, but an opportunity to improve, a challenge to grow and much more. Similarly losses are part of the game, and the latter is multi-faceted and provides ongoing opportunities to work at it. It teaches us humility and joy, and builds character etc etc.

Fantastic discussion. Darren is undoubtedly an exceptional coache. I would have loved to have heard him speak about Pete Sampras, considering he dominated Agassi and was the model of belief and perseverance.

That's a question for Brad Gilbert, not Cahill. Cahill was coaching Hewitt until 2002, which is when Sampras retired. His time with Agassi was 2002 - 2006.

@@bradleysugars Lots of things! 1) Luck is a big factor to success. 2) Upbringing is vital. I knew of Darren Cahill since he was a player but never knew his dad was a great football coach too. 3) How players respond differently to an incoming ball to the center of the court. Again, well done interview! I liked the insightful line of questioning and letting Cahill elaborate freely on all his thoughts.

Just an opinion of a decades tennis fan..I don't believe Jannick naturally 'smiles'..he is a deep introspective player..I believe what Cahill has brought to Jannik is 'to relax, enjoy and smile'..Jannik is the ultimate perfectionist and millions of us are watching him closely and wishing him and his team all the best..Cahills self awareness and depth is off the charts..so he can identify dimensions in his mentees others may not see..do not believe Brad Gilbert shares this level of self awareness..he 'wins ugly'...another style...

Tennis is dying out. The players are trying to salvage it. Unfortunately, people with bags of money may be the answer.

House of Saud is the only thing keeping Saudi Arabia stable. The other option is Islamic State. You're not going to get Switzerland type society in Arabia 😂 They have to work with realistic options and authoritarian monarchy is one of the viable ways to get the Arabs to slowly modernise like UAE is trying.
