This is great. I find that I often turn sideways and run to the ball. This means that I am not facing forward and when I get to the ball my body is sideways and my shoulder gets in the way of the shot.

Again, great video Florian! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Agree with previous request of footwork for getting to short balls and then back to the baseline. That would be very helpful. Do you have any plans on coming to Florida?

I was wondering if you could do something on the footwork to a shorter ball but recovering back to the baseline? Thanks Julian

Well to me it looks like you're taking 2 extra small adjustment steps on your forehand shots after the cross over and shuffle. I guess the ball was coming not very fast or you wouldn't have time for that. We don't see Roger or Novak doing that in your video. However, it's good to understand the basic patterns you've shown here.

what would be the footwork sequence when opponent goes down the line from a crosscourt rally?

Not a "shuffle" step. I think modern footwork has changed, the shuffle step you describe is old school where the legs actually almost come together on the skip (you can see your legs almost touch on your shuffle/skip step), but if you watch modern players, especially Federer, his legs almost never come together. Instead, it is a small hop/skip where you use the feet/ankles to shift laterally. Importantly, you maintain a strong leg base with the legs always wide apart as you move. I also agree with the other poster that the first step after the initial split is the outside leg, where the foot turns out and you drive towards that side before a large crossover step. Would welcome hearing your thoughts on my analysis.

What you said first is what the shuffle is. The shuffle step in tennis is exactly what you described next though: a small hop/skip where both of your legs shift in one direction.
