Jeff Salzenstein, Former top 100 ATP Player and USTA High-Performance Coach, shares and demonstrates three simple steps to effortlessly crush the high forehand.
Many players make a common mistake, which is swinging from low to high, and finishing over the shoulder when hitting a high forehand. However, you can correct this issue by working on these three simple steps:
1. Take the ball early and avoid letting it drop.
2. Use the right footwork by loading on your outside leg and landing on the other foot.
3. Swing across your body and finish down your opposite pocket.
Finally, Jeff gives two bonus tips related with court positioning. First, you must be inside the baseline to execute this shot and technique. Second, when you’re behind the baseline, you should let the ball drop and play a heavy ball back with great spin and height.
Forehand myths revealed: Former Top 100 ATP Pro, Jeff Salzenstein, is exposing 3 common myths that could be crippling your forehand potential. Most players make at least 1 of these 3 mistakes... Do you? bit.ly/2OqGtrU

Obviously, they don't teach this shot in old school tennis. The key note here, as you mentioned, this is a different stroke. I've been playing for > 20 years, struggling with putting the mid-court balls away - mostly I just chip and charge on those balls and finish them at the net. Just recently developed a more flat swing with higher contact points. It take some getting used to to time the feet and the hit, but the result great! Thanks for the great lesson.

You make some of the best tennis instructionals i've seen. For future videos, i'd like to see you go in depth on the ideal groundstroke contact points (as in, how far away in front of your body the ball has to be) and how it varies depending on your grip, court position, whether you want it flat or spinny etc. Sorry if it has already been addressed.

Jeff, Thank you for making this video.... because I didn´t know that I couldn´t hit the ball behind the baseline like that, always when I hit, the ball went directly to the net and that is really frustrating. Now, after watching this video I will start hitting the ball with more topspin behind the baseline and when I get a high ball inside the court I am going to use the swing path that you showed.... Again... Thank You Jeff!! You are Amazing...

I am sure there are some explanations how to approach such a shot to get more consistent results

Thanks, this was very well explained. My daughter is 15 and is experiencing some pushers in the middle rounds of 16s tournaments. @TennisEvolution
@TennisEvolution 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Akbar, thanks for your comment. I do have great videos and courses on the OHBH, but I will consider your request for the near future. To answer part of your question, for the high backhand, you can either back up and let the ball drop, or move in to get it more on the rise if you go off your front foot. If you go off the back foot, you will use a back to front footwork, let it get to shoulder, and flatten it out.

Hi Jeff! Thanks for the video! Great advice! I was actually trying to hit the ball at shoulder high, but still trying to re-create a low-to-high stroke. I soon realized that was nearly impossible. So do you mean that we should hit the ball in two possible places? Either shoulder high going for a crossed swing path, or heap high going low-to-high. Except from when being behind the base line, where we should let it drop at heap height and then return a heavy ball back. Am I right?

I think this shot and the finishes are up to the player's height. I'm a relatively short man, around 170cm and i hit these balls around service line, finish at around my stomach, aaand net it. Also, is this shot supposed to be a flat shot with little margin or you still want some spin to have more margin and makes the ball drop to the court?
