I had first person experience regarding Putintseva. I was a ball person at her corner during a WTA250 event. The ball from her opponent landed 3 inches inside the side line; and the court was using automatic line calling. And she argued with the umpire that the ball was out… and swore that she would not come to this event again. The ball persons all laughed at her during lunch break. 😂

Dude I'm watching video on my phone in portrait mode without my glasses and knew that ball was in. And sure hard calls are hard, but in this sport, lines are thin and millimeters count. One could argue that the close calls are quite literally the only reason the linespeople are there in any professional capacity. So I get being more than a little annoyed for missing an easy call, (slow, high lob, long travel distance, hangtime on the order of seconds, nearly vertical trajectory on impact), let alone several in a row.

Yes it was. Totally different but at least in that first one even though she wasn't super close you just never know. As soon as you hear that out call everything stops and you don't try but had you not the out call, it's unlikely but possible she gets a racquet on it. I think unless it is totally impossible like she's on the other side of the court, if it's called out it's gotta be replayed at minimum. It sucks for the player who thinks they hit the winner but it's too grey otherwise

I wish the refs were better at explaining things. Often times they are correct but have little ability to specifically map out to the player why they are correct using minute details of situational rulings. If you return the ball in, your opponent can't win the point no matter what the result of the challenge is. If you don't return it, you leave it up to the judge to determine if you were going to get the ball.

I’ve found Siegemund quite disgraceful for years. She’s never done anything majorly bad, but there has always been this subtle entitled brattish attitude under the surface. “Why do you ruin this game for me?” A rule is a rule. An umpire should enforce a time violation. The situation doesn’t matter. The fact that it’s match point doesn’t matter. She broke the time rule, she was penalised. Accept the consequence and move on. Standing there and saying “Yeah but who gives a shit?” is so arrogant. Why would the rules not apply to her?

I think unless it's very clearly late and could possibly not of affected the shot, it has to be a replay at minimum. @@C_M_R There definitely should be a review system for situations like this, but in this case I really think the umpire is right. Set the playback speed to 0.25x and listen to what comes first: sound of racket hitting the ball or the 'out' call? For me it's 100% the racket hitting the ball by about 2-3 frames. But even if it came exactly at the moment of her hitting the ball, that's still not enough to replay the point, because the call can't affect her if she's already hitting the ball. The umpire is right. Plus you can see Collins stops before the call is even made, so she wasn't even making an attempt to get to that ball.

@@Kordass126 I get it but the umpire could explain the situation in a more respectable way imo, maybe I'm just complaining but the tone the umpire is using just sounds a bit too dismissive.

the Kalinskaya match, do you think out call affected her
@Kordass126
@Kordass126 Жыл бұрын
No way. The call came after she hit the ball already. She was basically half volleying from the baseline. In a case like this, it's virtually impossible for the call to affect the player as they're hitting the ball immediately after it bounces.

I'm not sure, but I'm almost leaning toward Danielle Collins is the most unlikeable on the WTA tour. I mean we have our regulars here (Lostakpenko, Putinseva, Alize), but are we ready to make Danielle the worst?

Why does Mattek-sands expect line judges to have Hawkeye vision? If the judge makes a mistake, ok; they're human, but apparently you can't be if you ump her

I am unfond of Danielle Collins. She seems like a very good player, definitely skilled, but she is so sour. What’s nice about someone like Ostapenko is she is a cow and it’s obvious, she does not try to hide it. With Collins, she tries to dress it up as playing the victim/being unsure of the rules/some other very small discrepancy, and it is so fake. Whining like a child.
