Pour le grand retour de Rafael Nadal chez lui, sur la terre battue parisienne, les fans du tennis auront droit à une affiche de rêve dès le premier tour. Le tirage au sort a réservé une drôle de surprise à l'Espagnol, mais aussi à Alexander Zverev, n°4 mondial. L'Allemand va retrouver le maître des lieux, deux ans après leur mythique demi-finale interrompue après 3h de jeu suite à la blessure de Zverev. Si le Majorquin n'est sans doute pas ravi de ce tirage, lui qui espérait monter en puissance sur la terre battue parisienne, il "s'y attendait" selon ses mots, n'étant pas tête de série, mais simplement le 276e joueur mondial.

This draw is really unfortunate for Nadal. If he had had an easier draw and a few matches to play himself into form, who knows what would have happened ... Zverev is a huge challenge. I hope Rafa can put up a good showing. Whatever happens, Rafa's standing and prestige will remain undamaged. He's a great tennis player and an admirable human being who will be missed.

@@Alexander-dt2eq That's so true...this could be just as bad for Zverev. Irrespective of the form Rafa's in...a first round match against him at Roland Garros will always be a challenge...ALWAYS. I mean...it's Zverev's first round match too...he too can't afford to slip or take Rafa lightly. He was quite vocal about his goals at RG. He really wants to win this tournament. Should be an incredible match.

draw-wise: actually its better for Rafa, cause if he wins, the draw is wide open till semis. game-wise its not great, cause he needs matches to improve his form and confidence

Exactly. After Zverev (or Rafa) the opponents are not too bad. Rafa is 7-3 h2h and 5/6 against Zverev on clay so he knows how to play him. Just a matter of the body and adjusting to an in form top player.

Zverev at the beginning is the best what can happen to Rafa. He would be physically at the best possible and not be exhausted from a previous match. It would be much worse, if he would lose without any ado against Zverev in the second round after a previous four- or five-setter.

Nadal is the player that relies most on rythm to build his form because he plays proactive defensive tennis where he needs automatism for his anticipation of opponents and his own shot selection

i doubt it. they all have rest days. Also players will fear him more after seeing him win 3-4 matches. Currently any top100 player thinks he can win against Nadal. That might change after 1st week. For Rafa its actually the worst thing, but for Zverev its even worse, cause he was the 4th seed and is. now in a battle for retaining the right to be 4th seed in this draw

From the beginning of this year was sure he would be ready for RG. He always was good in terms of health but he can't beat age on other faster surfaces. Roland garros clay and big court suits his game a lot. Win your 15th and the last slam champ and retire instead of being fickle. Wish you the best 💪 A nole fan 🤗

Nadal still believes he can win RG this year. That means he can, what a champion! I hate Novak played Geneva, he should be here practicing on courts of RG like all other strong players. Big mistake in my opinion for Novak. Still, Djokovic is my # 1 favorite for the title. Nadal is on 2nd place.

I'm a long time super fan of Rafa, I love him dearly and wish he could win this RG...but unfortunately I don't see it happening. I might be wrong, but think he's having a really hard time going through the final stage of his career. Part of me wants to continue enjoying his magic, and part of me wants him retire now rather than see him loose to whoever...
