I hate to say it, but the officials are affecting the livelihoods of players. This really needs to be improved. There are so many people with phones that have cameras in them, even with 60 frames per second, etc, that there is ZERO excuse for a professional tournament to not be able to rely on video reply at the very least. Why cant they refer it back to video reply, like they do in other sports? If they are going to get the tournament supervisor involved, then why not have another group of people assess it on a screen; by the time the supervisor got to court, they could have radio'd the result in. Put yourself in the shoes of Pliskova. She was robbed. Plain and simple. And the incompetent management of the tournament are to blame.
@inesolujic2534
@inesolujic2534 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! A good chunk of the time when players argue with umpires like this the players are right. It's ridiculous that I can be sitting on my butt in my living room thousands of miles away and get 8 replays from 3 different angles while a player gets screwed because some of these umpires are inattentive and bad at their jobs.
@conandis5542
@conandis5542 2 жыл бұрын
You're both right. One more thing to mention here is that lines people & umpires make mistakes and nothing happens to them whilst on the court a mistake can swing the match the other way. This frustrates the players and makes their minds go crazy 😝

@@boxychubbo6922 bad line calls happen in tournaments everywhere. From big tournaments, to small. And while you're being snarky, how would you feel if a loss cost you potentiallybhundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions? Would you be happy?
@bigrobsydney
@bigrobsydney Жыл бұрын
@@boxychubbo6922 Can I give you an example? In all honesty, probably not. Because even if there was a bad line call on an actual match point, then there's always the argument that if the call had ben made correctly, or reversed, the player might have lost the match on a subsequent match point anyway. I would have to spend a lot of time trying to find something. In saying that, have a look at the match with Sorana Cirstea, where she had SIX bad line calls, and had to rely on the hawkeye challenge to get them reversed. Even with this match, I cant honestly tell you what would have happened 100% if there was no hawkeye and the calls were forced to stand. But the point I'm making is that bad officiating exists. It's a fact. Humans make mistakes, whether its the players, or the officials. But it's the consequences of those mistakes that are a concern. Yes, YOU may like the drama. I get that. But put yourself in the shoes of a person who may have been training for years, and knows deep in their boots that their particular shot was in, only to have an official make a bad call, and not only cost you a point, but maybe a game, set, or match. If, as I said before, those consequences have impacts against endorsement deals, or even if you can't pay your hotel bill at a small tournament, then it can be financially devastating.

@@Dom-yv4nq Because supervisors can only change rule interpretations meaning what is considered a medical timeout and things like that but if its a decision they are not allowed to change it, but the player's problem is that they think things like ball marks are rule interpretations rather than in essence discretion which causes the players problems

The first example on the clip was when then supervisor talked with the chair and she changed her mind. Which is why cubulkova went nuts. Although it was right to change her mind she hadn’t seen any chair do that and was arguing due to lack of precedent. I wish more umps would confer with the lines person when they say - I didn’t remember it that way. Oh it did bounce in, says the lines person close to her.- okay replay the point.
