Top 10 for sure. Many others out there. Djokovic-Thiem ATP Finals 2019 & 2020, Djokovic Alcaraz Madrid 2022, Federer Djokovic Bercy 2018, etc. So many classics. And Kyrgios-Federer Madrid 2015 too.

One of the greatest technical matches ever , Kyrgious was on fire and did everything but it wasn't enough , Federer came up with shots no other tennis player would ever come up with + returning Nick's missiles on the serve/ FH and that famous volley when nick unleashed a fire ball of a FH and Federer casually dropped it dead at the net , Goated performance .

Rafa-Dimitrov AO 2017 SF was the best match of the year, but the "2017 ATP match of the year award" is only given to non-Slam matches, as the Slams are operated by the ITF, not the ATP.

@@Emil-Roma I personally prefer Rafa-Dimitrov, but the Federer-Wawrinka was also magical, especially due to the backhand interchanges. 2017 was one of the most special tennis years for us tennis fans, so many magnificent battles.

2017 was the best version of Roger Federer. He was unstoppable half of the year. 3 finals against Rafa and he wins it. 😭🇨🇭

Not the best version. First, he was facing a slower version of Nadal who had declined in the defense department (while Federer was also slower, his game is more offensive and has never needed so much of defense as Nadal's one). Second, none of those 2017 finals were on clay. Federer strategically avoided playing Roland-Garros in 2017 and 2018 to avoid facing Rafa. When Roger finally faced Rafa at RG 2019, he comfortably lost in 3 sets. Peak Federer (roughly 2005-2011) always won 1 set against Rafa at RG.

@@jameswalker6864 he didn t participate in clay season not becouse he was scared of Rafa but becouse he was back after an injury, the rallies on clay are much longer, he needed to finish the point fast. In the next years he participated in French Open so your point is invalid

@@HighTierMikefederer 2015 and 2017-18 was better. The competition was much stronger than 2003-2007… his serve and backhand was the best ever in 2015 and 2017. It’s just he came up against peak Djokovic in 2015 and got a back injury in 2017 that hurt his US OPEN chances

why did they even change it. new location just looks so shitty and artificial with the big football stadium in the background, instead of at a proper tennis centre with a great atmosphere. its like moving aus open to a new location when theres a world class tennis precinct. makes no sense.

this is the best match i have watched ever in my 20 years of watching tennis.. that net shot of the bullet from Nick was a big lesson for Nick for life.. I think he must have never seen somebody take it like that.. After observing this match all this years.. i observed one thing why Nick lost the first and third set in tie breaker.. he hit double faults when he was trying to hit a strong serve on the second serve on both the occasions.. can you imagine he lost both the sets because of it.. yes it is..

True. But you reap what you sow. The crowd interrupted many times in the match. Nick chose to yell at the crowd, Roger chose not to react. Ultimately, how each player reacted to the situation decided the match.

Lahyani umpired both of these Federer-Kyrgios encounters (Madrid 2015 + Miami 2017). What an honour to umpire such classic matches. Random observation, he said "Game set and match" in English by mistake instead of Spanish in the Madrid encounter, but announced the score in spanish. Oops! Also this Miami encounter is maybe the only time I can recall where the player who lost the coin toss chose the OTHER side of the net to start on. Although the sun was just setting so perhaps that played a factor. What an incredible match this was. Dont usually condone smashing a racket after a loss like Nick did here (bad sportsmanship) but in this case its kinda understandable given that someone in the crowd tried to call Nicks shot out throwing him off at a REALLY bad time. Kudos to Lahyani for not coding Nick for audible obscenity there, he knew the magnitude of the moment. It's not shown here but Nick yelled "What are you doing? Shut up! Shut the F--- up! What the F--- are you doing??"

I don't think it's a stretch to say this was one of the top 5 ATP tour matches of the 2010s. I've probably seen it 3-4 times but it's always fun to watch Roger work his magic. What's sad though is that Kyrgios has never played this well since. Wimbledon fluke final aside - he definitely goes on the "biggest waste of talent" list.

So beating world #1 and defending champion in the US Open last year was also a fluke? Taking a set off Novak in Wimbledon final was also a fluke I guess. So was Australian Open doubles title. And Washington 500.

@@hypersonicpiano6120 - Waa waa wee.I said he hasn't played as well since this match - and he hasn't. He plays DOWN to his opponents, so no, the quality of his tennis hasn't been as good since this match in 2017. The Washington title he won against Nishioka - who was ranked really low at the time. You really want to go there, dude? The Wimbledon final WAS a "fluke" because the draw was decimated due to COVID. In a normal year Kyrgios doesn't make it out of the 3rd round and he got into the final due to a walkover from Nadal. So no, he hasn't played as well since this match. Even in the 2 times he played Roger in the Laver Cup he didn't play as well as he did in the Miami Open match. He'd probably be the first to admit that.

@@jollymolly2521 so it is just a fluke that he did all those things in one season. Forgot to mention that he beat Med in Motreal as well. US Open match against Med was as good as Kyrgios has ever played. You just don't do all those things within one season unless you seriously lift your game. Of course 2017 Kyrgios was a beast, but it's obvious he made some positive changes after that season too.
