This video shows how varied tennis can be and how mentally taxing of a sport it becomes compared to most other sports in my opinion. With the different serves, return positions, no-looks, deception, mental games, and trick shows that come about from normal play and how rhythmic the game is, these seriously throw a wrench into the gears and messes with you. Everyone has a way of playing they play and way that the game unfolds so these games and tricks is something for everyone to see and learn from

Tennis is 50% physical, and 50% mental. It's athletic chess. At the top level, all these guys can hit the same shots. Like chess, you have to outthink your opponent. Reading your opponent's body language is key, therefore your opponent, not only has to hit a good shot, they have to fake you out. Reminds of the book, Winning Ugly, by Brad Gilbert.

@@ajwasp3642 absolute facts every sports definitely requires physicality, skills and technique, no doubt about that. but in a sport (especially in singles) where you have a large space of area to cover with very little time to react to, tennis is such a mental sport

4:55 I guess this is what differentiates them from the NexGen players. They're always right there fighting and turning things around until the very last second of the match with this "Never give up until your opponent's match point turns into your own" attitude. ✨

What Murray did to Zverev used to be pretty common on the women's tour back in the 90s. Sabatini, Capriati, Seles and Navratilova all used to move in and try and threaten their opponent's serve like that. Obviously much harder to do that on the men's tour where serves are bigger.

Mind games need not necessarily involve tennis shots. It could be something as simple as slowing down the pace of the match by taking more time in between points.

To be fair some of these are just blatant poor sportsmanship in my opinion. Might qualify as mind games as well as it is done primarily to get into their opponents head, but it’s certainly not the way most sportsman would want to win matches, even though they aren’t illegal I’m really not a fan of some of them

If Kyrgios really did start the fake, but then didn't serve, it should count as a fault. Otherwise, he can have his opponents running forward and walking back for restarts all day.

What was the point of putting Djokovic here? All he did was comeback from a set and MP down instead of using any tricks? Other than getting his picture on thumbnail with that title considering the current chatter around his hamstring injury at AO? These are the type of snarky attempts, the smear he's been dealing with all his career since he burst into the scene from a not so popular country, and didn't roll over for 2 media darlings.
@DrMic2112
@DrMic2112 Жыл бұрын
It was put in not bc of a specific match or strategy, but bc Djokovic was talking during the interview how the more he wins, it gets in players heads that he can always come back. It gives him that mental edge, which is so important in tennis. Thus, it seems to fit within the overall content of the video: getting into the head of your opponents to have that slight edge.
@Abhi-wh3ik
@Abhi-wh3ik Жыл бұрын
@@DrMic2112 He said that AFTER the match, though. So, wouldn't it be more suitable to highlight this for his next match? But, he said that after the final, and mind games are only useful while talking about upcoming matches- not after winning them. That's why it's bizarre to put him on thumbnail when some journos are accusing him of faking leg injury.
