Jazz musicians must feel like they’re in heaven when they’re in Japan. They show so much respect for these guys.

I love how Sonny stays up front while the trombone is playing still encouraging and animated instead of slinking off to the back of the stage and ignoring the other soloists.

And it's also professional courtesy to give the stage to the soloist and not pull attention from him/her.

It has been a major stroke of good fortune for me that I was able to hear Sonny Rollins play. If ever someone found the right career for himself, it was Mr Rollins.

The slide trombonist is a much better musician than I will ever be, but what happened to him? He seemed to find his own key. Timing was great, tonality was askew. When you play outside you have to find your boundaries. My opinion-- he had a different map than the rest of the band.
@Dang...
@Dang... 2 жыл бұрын
Huh?! He was playing VERY inside the tonality. Not out at all. And swinging like an old pair of balls too.
@jdavis6650
@jdavis6650 2 жыл бұрын
@@Dang... Dan, just my opinion. You might have a better ear than I do. S. Trombonist nails the head. Everything else is a matter of opinion. Listen to the keys. He gets it. Not too many "can't find my way" accidental accidents and trills. He uses them only after building the base/tonal center. Upper extensions are like butter. As for Sonny, he is the man. I would aspire to carry his luggage.
