Tens of Thousands Protest in Georgia Against 'Russian-Style' Law

This video shows the scenes outside of the Parliament in Georgia this month.
The parliament was forced to cancel meetings today after Wednesday's protests, where police used water cannons, tear gas, and pepper spray on tens of thousands of demonstrators.
Some police officers reportedly clashed with protesters, who threw eggs and bottles at them.
Water cannons and stun grenades were then used to disperse demonstrators from the area outside the Soviet-era parliament building.
Dozens of people were arrested the night before and mass rallies have continued daily in the capital, Tbilisi.

US law allowed RT which is 100% funded by the Russian gov't to be on the air in the US for 10 years. DirectTV took them off only after the Ukraine invasion in 2022. I don't think the Russian law would allow any100% gov't funded activity at all, for any amount of time. So this one very big difference

LOL @ the "Russian-style law" thing which was adopted by the US in the 1940s. Call it US-style law instead.

Nah, there is a huge difference, FARA only targets only those groups or those people who are under direct instruction of recognized threat regimes or groups; and there are numerous exceptions written within FARA, basically, it has language within it which prevents it from being used as a sledgehammer to quash simple dissent. This russian law targets anything and everything that simply gets at least 20% of funding, there are no exceptions and it will be used selectively with extreme pejudice against opposing voices.

We've seen countries like Libya that fought to be democratized and now we see how are those territories, lifing in worsen conditions. Fight for what is good for your people but not what EU or USA dictates. To be part of EU shouldn't have conditions. If the goals is to betten people lifes, humanity.

The US signed such a law (called FARA) in 1948. EU has such laws for a good while. Russia signed such a law in 2012. Now Georgia wants more control over their media too. What's the problem?
