Great video! I started bikepacking few years ago, at the beginning it was in a tent with a sleeping bag, but it was simply too big and heavy to continue using them. So I switched to a hammock, first attempt was awful experience, because of coldness beneath (I didn't predict that) and some strange wild animals roaming around me at night. Quite a bad experience. Later I went two more nights with that same hammock during summer in Croatia and it was amazing, but as you mentioned, I decided that I'll stay max two nights wild camping and then I'll go for one night in official accommodation so I can recharge my batteries as well as my body and soul, haha. I even bought an ultra-light bivvy bag, not like the one in your video, but the one for emergencies (esp coldness), I tried it just a month ago on a hammock on 13°c during the night, but it didn't work as expected. It says that it can retain/keep up to 80% of body's temperature, but that was definitely not the case with mine. What's even worse, it condensed a lot so I was partially wet in the morning, while freezing. Not a good experience either. Anyhow, I decided to keep using my hammock with a sleeping bag as a compromise. It's really not an easy decision to make what's the best setup.

Bivvy bag?! I can sit up and change in them - that's because I altered mine with a long zip down one side to my hips area, then I've got easy access in and out there's Velcro as well to stop the zip coming lose and adding waterproofing a flap to cover the zip where the velcro holds it together. I use an army poncho above to keep the elements off and Bob's your dad's brother. I just put the sleep system inside the bivvy bag and all's good. I can just as easy put the whole thing in a hammock with the poncho or tarp above - job done. Oh and spray the living daylights out of it with waterproofing, I used 3 layers of it on the outside. Works good in a tent if you get a lot of condensation.

I use the tent on my bikepacking trips and by the way I have the same Nemo tent. It's a good tent, lightweight, love it. 👍

I think that booking a camping spot is a very good option. All the essentials are provided inclusive pubs and swimming pools if you are lucky. You can leave your bags in the tent and with the bike you'll be able to explore the surrounding area. This is what I'm going to try next year. Regards.

You can put your bivy bag on standing up. And you can take it off standing up.

Used to carry a bit I when climbing but always freaked out thinking about adders joining me lol. Always preferred a tent especially as I’ve had a wildcat jumping about on top of me before!!!! Have two but just treated myself to a new F10 Hydrogen. Always fancied a hammock but not in Scotland lol

I don't mind bears, wolves, cougars: shotgun will deal with that. It's the damn "noseeums" (midges) and black flies: shotgun just doesn't have much effect I'm afraid 😂

Question : How best to keep your bike secure when sleeping in your tent? I used to attach my bike frame to a personal attack alarm, if bike moved it pulls out the pin and alarm goes off. Pain to set up and not waterproof. Now seen the new Knog scout bike alarm. Has a movement alarm as well s the technology of an apple air tag to track bike if stolen. I’ve ordered one to see. Thoughts and ideas?
