The unique engine note as it goes by comes from the turbocharger placement -- ahead of the engine instead of behind.

Interesting.......I remember rooting hard for John to do well in the Porsche. In the current Imsa sports car series in GTLM hands down the 911 and 912 are by far the best sounding cars. I couldnt believe how loud they were at the Long Beach GP....dont even have to see them to identify the car. Other cars sound great like the ford and the corvettes but there is no comparable to the factory 911's.. Even the Wright Team GTE Porches 911R dont sound as raw as the GTLM cars.

I’m pretty sure they were 2.65 litre turbocharged V8 engines. They used that same formula for decades. This car looked awesome in the green Quaker State livery.

Looks like CART cheated them

The innovative packaging with the turbo between the fuel tank and the engine was great for aero but a nightmare for cooling. If they had more time for testing, they might have sorted it out, but CART's sudden change of heart about allowing all-carbon chassis for 1990 robbed them of testing time and pretty much doomed the 90P's development right out of the box.
