There's a lot of HUBBUB surrounding what coil spring you should have in your jeep suspension. Surprisingly, the subject gets pretty passionate. Dennis and Brooke try to get down to the nitty gritty, and cut through the hype.

(sing to the vintage slinky commercial): What holds TJs, all up in the air, and JKs up just as well? Coil springs! Four springs! suspension coil springs, everyone knows they're for Jeeps. They're coil springs, they're four springs, they're fun for paths and off road. They're coil springs, they're four springs, they're fun everywhere that you go.

Please do a video discussing the effects of lower control arm angle and negative camber during the initial compression of lifted suspensions. All OE is designs position the control arms in a level position and don't exihbit negative camber compression from ride height. Subscribed! I learned a lot. Thank you.

I gotta say after watching this video it does get me thinking. I went from H&R springs and bilstein shocks to a Synergy dual rate coil and a cheap twin tube shock from quadratec, I also completely removed the sway bars. the ride quality IMO has suffered a bit and my ride height is not as advertised. when I had removed my sway bars with the h&r springs and bilstein shock combo the car was still stable and rode like a dream but now I have way more sway with the synergy quadratic combo and my tj takes potholes a bit harder now. off-road ride quality remains the same

Metalclock has been the best jk suspension I can find for durability and amazing on road and off road climbing. It’s not the suspension u want if your going 50 mph over bumper fields but crawling rocks and trails it’s amazing. And the best on road Iv had many kinds metalclock is top notch

I don't know but when I replace my stock linear rate Springs with AV Springs sure did make a huge difference in the way my Jeep road on the street and off-road I think linear rate springs are just cheaper and easier to pump out ! Honestly way more technical to manufacture a multi rate spring.
@ADAMJWAITE
@ADAMJWAITE 2 жыл бұрын
They didn't mention it in the video but where, how and the materials used to manufacture the springs makes as much or more of a difference then the spring rate or style (linear, progressive, ect). Take two identical springs by the numbers, one being a cheap Chinese mfg such as Rough Country and the other being a high-end, quality, performance manufacturer such as Eibach, Devers or Old Man Emu and you will see a significant difference in ride. There are very good reasons why the mass majority of manufacturers in the industry use linear springs and it's not always due to cost.

Wow...I just emailed AEV about top three coils compressed. I understand now. For my preference I think I will change to Linear. Cant really see why not to use all the spring. Not happy with DD ride of AEV even though many swear by it. Of course I will replace with TeraFlex.

A Very professional , edifying and entertaining presentation. However, the TeraFlex foam based "speed bump" is a different alternative to a hydraulic, viciously damped, nitrogen charged air bump. Air bumps made by fox, king and many others provide superior dampening at almost the same price. The job of any shock is to convert kinetic energy to heat. How does the foam dissipate the heat? Hydraulic bumps dissipate heat through thermal conductivity of the hydraulic fluid to the cylinder wall. Foam is an insulator. How does the speed bump dissipate heat? Does it degrade with time?

In my opinion coilovers are great for high speed off roading but to get the amount of travel you want out of it for articulation purposes it can be difficult and time-consuming is set up properly you get those long dual stage coilovers with bypass shocks and you try taking a turn on the freeway you might flip over

coilover r the best bc longest spring w/ adjustable setting but it is at the extreme end of the spectrum. I/God came up w/ a best of both. 1st 1 spring in a length mass made that u twist into a housing at the bottom to fine tune the length to the ht of lift same jeep or truck but 1 spring fits mutilpy lengths bc of twist housing. 22 diff springs a true dual system bc dual spring, by brake peddle 30deg cut in top & bottom of spring where they meet in the middle. The spring w/ 2 slide top & bottom connection plates will NOW hve a starter coil spring & a normal spring perfect up & down loading & help out w/nose down braking or when u hit something w/ tires. The plate slide always the braking or hit impact to dead w/spring & movement of slide plates. I see how the progressive 2 in 1 is not really all that 1 prt not really a spring but w/ my idea both r real springs& diff spring rates & don't hve to b directly over each other. Hell could hve two top smaller springs on top of normal spring w/ twist into housing to fit extra adjust make 1 spring fit more set up.

Now with that said. Metal cloak makes a dual rate coil that should not be called such. As the springs that are close up top are fully compressed when at ride hieght. So it's not dual rate but they advertise more drop because of it which with both know is a load of bull but some people do have problems with coils falling out at full flex like with rough country. What would you suggest because I will be getting a jl and will be using their arms just because I'm not a fan of the drop down control arm brackets that yall use. But your coils are way better. That said the size difference don't always match which has to do with the spring rate to. I'm thinking about getting your 3.5 inch coils instead but just not sure how they will stay in at a full flex because I think there 3 in half gets a better trailer score than your 4.5 but I haven't seen it. 1020 is what metal cloak is getting on a there flex trailer. But their coils also dont stuff right. Because of their non existent dual rate lol.

JKs are awesome, but i prefer my TJ. The one thing that makes me lean towards the TJ is the slightly wider body of the JK. On the flip side the JK does have a more powerful engine. I'm not sure if it's as sturdy as the old I6.

? For you. I have the Mopar/Teraflex 3 inch kit that was discontinued. I have taken most of the parts from this kit and replaced them. Ride was terrible. All over the road. Now I am at the coils. Hey TeraFlex, how are ya? Just a question, you say that you use mostly linear springs. In your TeraFlex Tech: Jeep Coil Springs video. +Tom Mojado Most of the stuff for JKs and TJs can go on the ZJ. Don't just look at jeeps; a friend of mine in the military built a rock crawling monster out of a Cherokee Sport using parts normally used on other vehicles. 26 inches of flex and a great balance to weight ratio were the result of finding out what parts work best together.

As somebody that has an RC lift kit on my old XJ and a Teraflex lift on my JK, I can tell you these lift kits are worlds apart. My RC lift I would barely qualify as a kit, considering all the other parts I had to chase down for the lift kit to work properly. Bump stops, brake lines, u bolts, trac bar, TC drop.. etc. some of which RC will offer for an extra charge, others I had to buy from other companies. All in all it ended up doubling the cost of my kit. My Teraflex lift kit had every single piece I needed for my jeep to perform the way it should. All things considered I would say that my Teraflex kit was much more affordable than my RC kit, and far from being the 'same thing'

The problem is it is not the “ same thing for less” the Teraflex lifts are complete and top quality. I have the 2.5 st with falcon shocks on a jk. It rides better than factory. You get what you pay for. If you just want to lift it, go with RC. If you want to actually drive it, go with Teraflex.

"Nothing else has lasted as long except the wheel itself" (regarding springs). I've got about 2K hours in long travel airbag suspensions patented by Funco Motorsports, and that system phenomenal, even at 80MPH over the whoops. Not very good on the road, so maybe that's the point he was making, I'll give him that, but for off road travel I'd try airbags before a spring, or coi-lover. Just my .02
