Amazing how Tao managed to explain a mathematical adventure like a Hollywood thriller. Even I who know nothing about maths find great interest in this narration. Bet he is a great teacher!

+Meta Music That's O.K.! Don't Worry! I wasn't hero worshiping him, no worries there! I just think he seems a gentleman! By the way, Meta Music, are you a schizophrenic? There seems a logical inconsistency in your conversation that is typical of schizophrenia. By the way it is not hero worship that causes mass problems in the world, if what we hero worship has no hidden agendas or underlying bigoted politics etc. You just try and relax and take things easy, Meta Music! Cheers - Mike

He’s brilliant. I was in the same year when entering Princeton grad school and lived in the same “ New College “ (dorm) as Terry in the early 90s. He was so young and we all saw him at dinner each night. I’m in the humanities so we weren’t close. He was roughly 16 or so if I remember correctly. Later, I would sometimes see him walking on Witherspoon, deep in thought. He had this same Australian accent in those days as well.

Thank you the talk and thank you to the foundation for holding this event, and awards ceremony. I think there would be plenty of donors that would provide a stipend for the coordination of the comments and work, mostly proof reading and suggestions. Come on social media giant you gave the money to Berkeley, UCSF, and Stanford, for the atlas of the human bodies, time to give it up to those number therorists, crytoplogists, and bioinformaticists that will help decode Genomes, DNA, RNA and protein interactions of those cells.

Theres always mathematical ways to balance the equation of each others intelligence or intellectual ability. People give other people too much credit for when they feel that their individual self can't do it on their own when they supposed to be putting that much energy from the credentials their giving to the opposing person on to them selves.

Polymath is such an amazing movement and platform. But it has famous papers and no citations for the authors. They could just put everyone's name in tha paper. Why using pseudonym for publication rather than specific names. They could specify the significance of contributions of the authors with labeling them. Really easy.

I'm wondering, if some researchers or (under) graduate students comment something crucial in every "polymath" project, Tao (or any top researcher in any scientific area) will include them to the paper that he will write about the solution of an unsolved problem? Tao didnt say in his talk why some from the mathematical community tried to "steal" the proof from Grigori Perelman and that was the reason for Perelman's "retirement" from mathematics and his disgust for the majority of the top mathematical researchers. Or Tao didnt mention Alexander Grothendieck regarding also his MONOMATH projects and his disgust for the majority of the mathematical community. Tao and other "clever" guys (I've seen it before many times in the past) try to find slaves and steal their mind surplus. i.e. polymath is just a bulshit.

+shredhappy101 It's ok shredhappy he doesn't understand the joy of taking a test and scoring in a top percentile and then posting it online while fishing for compliments and pretending he didn't know that was a good score. Then again you'd have to be quite stupid to believe IQ tests are anything more than to brag about a high score. Terence Tao is more likely to post results he has discovered rather then his IQ score because he was born that way. You were born with a high IQ yet you have time to talk to us peons with average IQ's. However even you said yourself, that you're a moron. At least you're honest.
@shredhappy101
@shredhappy101 8 жыл бұрын
Eddie Espinoza Jesus Christ, could you not tell I was making a simple joke. If you are implying that I was fishing for complements for being in the "top percentile," first, 157 isn't in the top percentile, no idea where you got that from. Second, the comment was obviously about Tao being smart, not about me having a "high" score, which isn't. Seriously, how did you get that wrong? Is it reading comprehension? Third, I don't give a fuck what any troll or straw-manning prick has to say about it. I was just surprised that there was such a difference between the highest IQ and average. How did I "pretend he didn't know that was a good score?" Whether I knew it was good or bad, I never make mention of that in my comment in any way. How do you know if I think it's high or if I think it's low, hmm? D you see what I mean, how stupid what you just said was? It *makes* *no* *sense.* I am indeed a moron compared to Tao, but compared to someone who wrongly reads into a simple comment just to start a pointless argument? Fuck you lmao Also, you saying that IQ test is solely for bragging rights is fucking stupid, do some research before you make hugely stupid statements. +Meta Music My nephew has Autism, you miserable fuck. Just because I don't want that trash on my thread doesn't have anything to do with intelligence.
@ErkaaJ

+shredhappy101 The maximum that anyone in this world could reasonably obtain is ~160, due to statistical uncertainty. At the point of IQ 200, there must be something like ten times of the amount of people on this earth, since the probability of having 200 IQ (i.e. the normal distr.) is so unlikely. Taking online IQ tests are not legitimate, a psychologist must evaluate the test and form that determine your IQ, and the test must be MASSIVE in order for someone to have extreme IQ. I took an IQ-test 141017 for Mensa obtaining the maximum 135+ (42/45, i.e. top 1%), since the test was not able to statistically ensure higher points, so I am very skeptical of both yours and Tao's claimed results (although Tao is certainly beyond 150).

He has extensive studies on random matrices, their spectrum, etc. It is fair to say that he has made a lot of progress on the subject. This is of interest to physics where random matrices are a commonly used model. The Green-Tao theorem on arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions of integers. The power of Convex Relaxations: Near-Optimal Matrix Completion and Stable Signal Recovery from Incomplete and Inaccurate Measurements, this is about compressive sensing and other related technologies that allow for example to remove red-eyes in photo. Extremal analysis with The Branscamp-Lieb inequalities: finiteness, structure, and extremals which is of interest to functional analysis. Harmonic analysis with Fuglede's conjecture is false in 5 and higher dimensions. Cohomological studies of manifolds with Puzzles and (equivariant) cohomology of Grassmannians. Polyhedral geometry with Puzzles determine facets of the Littlewood-Richardson cone. Numerical analysis with Operator splitting for the KdV equation. So, although he is probably the best mathematician right now, strangely, he also seems to be the most accessible.
