MasterClass

2 жыл бұрын

A MacArthur Fellow and Fields Medal winner, Terence Tao was studying university-level math by age 9. Now the “Mozart of Math” is breaking down his approach to everyday problem-solving-without complex equations or formulas. Learn how to deconstruct challenges, use storytelling as a tool, and discover solutions, whether you’re trying to level up in a computer game or just want to make sure you catch your plane on time.
Learn more about Terence Tao’s MasterClass at mstr.cl/3qWScTn.
With breakthrough research in harmonic analysis, combinatorics, partial differential equations, and analytic number theory, Terence Tao has been counted as the “Mozart of Math” by fellow mathematicians. He’s also been honored with the Fields Medal, considered the Nobel Prize of mathematics; the Riemann Prize; the Bolyai Prize; and more than 25 other math and science awards for his contributions and research.
In this class, the UCLA professor teaches you how to use math to make your life better. Explore Dr. Tao’s process for using mathematical thinking to simplify and solve day-to-day challenges-without completing a single page of homework.
Lessons in this online class include:
• Terence Tao’s Journey
• Demystifying Math
• Math in Your Everyday Life
• Choosing the Problem to Solve
• Solving Problems With Story
• Transforming Problems
• Games, Cheats, and Puzzles
• Math Fails
• Stumped: Navigating Roadblocks
• Finding Strength in Numbers
• Onward: The Constant Evolution of Math
More from MasterClass:
• Garry Kasparov Teaches Chess: masterclass.com/gk

Not really. tao is a genius no doubt, he did publish a lot of papers, but the problem is he did not prove any major result in mathematics. For example, one could argue that Grigori Perelman and Andrew Wiles are greater than tao, since they proved the famous poincare conjecture and fermat's last theorem respectively. As a student in mathematics, I wouldn't rank tao as the best mathematician, maybe not even top 10.....

To make Terrence Tao truly the worlds best teacher (or someone else who wants to do future math videos), I’d suggest to try the didactical quadratur of the circle: Teaching the most abstract of university maths in such a way that anyone interested is able to almost easily and effortlessly understand. Terrence Tao leads people here who still have bad feelings about maths to enjoy it. But to really be the best at teaching maths, bar none, he would need to teach people the most abstract maths in such a way that they can then bring math research forward by THEMSELVES. Impossible? Perhaps, but according to Einstein: „Only if you can explain an extraordinary difficult concept to ordinary people without years of education and without oversimplifications… then you have TRULY understood it yourself“ [superbadass physicist Albert Einstein]

The problem with people is that they give up so easily. Math like any other subject requires persistence , perseverance and passion. If you have these, you can conquer any subject

OK I need to weld a schedule 80 pipe that’s 42 inches in diameter it’s -30° F outside with 50 mile an hour winds. I need to know how much I have to preheat it and the amps and the size of the rod that I need to make that weld at the route. Someone come up with a math problem for it. I want to see if mass console everything.
