I have been a college history professor for over 25 years. The students I have who were homeschooled have always been great. I have been so impressed that I put all my lectures on KZfaq as a free resource. Mainly Western civilization and the history of the Middle East. If there is something you are looking for in that area you can search the lectures I have or just ask. 😊 home school moms are doing an amazing job.

Yes ❤ kid attitudes can be such a challenge especially when they are fighting all the time. It’s draining. Calming myself before I calm them is tough. But you are right this is a privilege to teach my kids 1 on 1. It’s hard work but worth it! 🥰

I love all your videos, I taught for a long time and now I am previliaged to be able to homeschool this coming year. there is so much information and curriculum, but in my experience, exposing your children to literature early on, read alouds, and just expading their knowledge is more than enough. I know what my child needs and thankfully I know how to tweak it and assess due to experience so much to grab from, I am reminded that what I will do is enough and more enriched than hours and hours at school.

☺️ so relate, I need to follow the schedule too. No schedule, everything falls off the wagon for us. We are using Sonlight la 2 and HBL old A. In Oct we will start HBL B, science B and La 3. It’s such a nice curriculum and definitely a keeper.

I have 6 kiddos, almost 7. I've had the same experience with my preschoolers. It all seems to just be going over their head and then suddenly it's like the light just turns on and you realize they've been retaining it all along. My current 5 year old started doing preschool work around 3.5 years old and I thought it was pointless, but he seemed to enjoy it. He had a hard time learning to speak correctly for a long time. Now he's reading at or above the same level as his 7 year old brother and you would never know he ever struggled. Just shows every kid is different and learning at their own pace. Which is why I love homeschooling so much!! ❤

Batch filming for the win!! I probably only have about 5 tops I wear in videos anyways...lol. Hurray for the switch to MWC...you know I'm a big fan! :) And yeah, when it comes to letters and preschool...it's really all about exposure to the ideas, not mastery. The Gentle + Classical Preschool and Kindergarten binders--the repetition of those, were one of my favorite ABC tools with my boys.

Love getting to hear your perspective and thoughts. Always appreciate it and it's such a wonderful ray of sunshine, even when you share the hard things (or even especially when you share them). I feel like I love your videos even more cause I too am a second gen homeschooler and my kiddos are similar in ages to yours and I lived in New Zealand for a short time so hearing your accent is a bit like hearing from some of my dear friends. 😊

It’s fun to hear how your homeschool is going so far this year! Thanks for being open about the struggles too! In regards to spelling, all about spelling is coming out with a newer version and it’s now in color and comes with an activity book! We are also making our way through level 1 right now and I love the systematic approach, but do find it a bit dull. So that might be something to consider! I believe levels 1 and 2 will be released sometime later this month. Also, I love gentle and classical, and sonlight:)

Loving this update and words of wisdom! My son just turned 6 and we were a little more than halfway done with TGTB language arts and we finally had to just stop. It got too hard way too fast and now we’re working on all about reading and he’s responding way better. He cruised through TGTB math though so we’re going to trying out Math with Confidence for first grade. Can’t wait for your review videos about how math is going:)

This video was such an encouragement to me. My son is 6, and he's halfway through TGTB level K language arts. He was just struggling so much. So I paused his curriculum and we've just been reading beginner books and doing hooked on phonics games. I have been so stressed about this decision. But hearing you say you decided to restart level K with your daughter at 6 just gave me some....I don't know.... validation, I guess? Thank you for your videos! This is my first year homeschooling, and I tend to stress about everything.

Thanks for sharing! I was someone who asked about meal planning, and I can totally respect that you want to stay with just homeschool content for your videos. I get so much out of them! I love that you don't strictly follow grade levels for your children and allow them to work through "previous" year curriculum. I feel like there is so much pressure on homeschool parents to almost prove for lack of a better word that their kid is excelling. And it's such a fallacy that the level of curriculum has a correlation with their success in school. Every kiddo is different. So anyway a bit of a tangent there but just wanted to say I really appreciated that in your video! Also watching this at 11pm doing dishes so girl when I tell you I can relate to the messy house, 😅😅😅100%. Looking forward to joining in on your email list!

YES! I am 100% okay with my kids just being average if they're learning and happy. The key is just to encourage them at their own pace, whether that's a little "behind", "ahead", or "average". I think there's a danger of parents taking pride in their children doing exceptionally academically and therefore pushing them too far. It shouldn't be about us, but about what our kids need. :) So glad that my videos have been helpful!

Thanks Christine! I love your videos and content. It is such a delight for me to learn from you as we walk through this together. Other side of the world here. I live in Oregon, USA. Anyway, it does seem like you are going through so many of the same life events and challenges as me currently, and I loved your encouragement and honesty. Can’t wait to hear your thought on Math with Confidence. I am doing it with my preschooler and am eagerly awaiting that 3rd grade level to see if it a good fit for my 8 year old. Also, I feel the same way about wanting a schedule for my literary curriculums. Otherwise I feel overwhelmed with all the book options and read too much or nothing.

Thank You for this video Christine. I am also doing TGATB Math with my first grader but I have been contemplating whether I should switch over to MWC. So far my daughter is enjoying math (mainly the games), however I feel that something is missing in the curriculum. Now I am not too sure if its the constant hopping from one concept to another in a short period of time. I cannot wait for your review video on Mwc. I am a bit hesitant to switch over as I have everything printed already. :( Thank You for sharing the realities and challenges of homeschooling. I just love your homeschool :). Loved this video! Thanks for sharing. I completely agree that sending kids to school isn't going to fix their attitude or behaviour issues. I was also homeschooled growing up and there were times that she was really struggling. She was in a really isolated situation and didn't have the support she needed to be healthy and interact with us in healthy ways. It would have been better if she had put us in school for a year just so that she could have been healthier with us when we were home. That's obviously not what you were talking about, but it's just another perspective to add to the conversation. I'm so glad you got through a term with no one getting sick finally! 😊

We didn’t buy the books from sonlight and we love it!!! We are using 2 levels!!! We don’t love the schedule!!! My sister in law half uses the schedule for my twins and nephew and my oldest isn’t using the schedule!!! Some of the books we got the ebook or audio books for it!!! We love nessy for spelling!!! It’s awesome that your son is enjoying reading!!! My older kids love reading but not too much!!! Restarting level K sounds like an awesome idea!!! It sounds like it’s working out well for her!!! We found Flashcards help with my kids retain information!!! I thought when my older kids got older it be easier but it got harder and I’m often talking to my older kids about attitudes, but it’s worth it!!! Our summers aren’t a free for all my house as we find our older kids want to do some schooling in the off times and it means they have less to do on the days I require school!!! We love gentle and classical moving virtues!!! My kids from 5 - 15 do it!!! We do add in books for my teenager!!!
