Sent back from a dystopian 2029--where the cold machines have conquered the entire world--to 1984 Los Angeles, the indestructible cyborg-assassin known as the "Terminator" commences his deadly mission to kill humankind's most important woman: the unsuspecting Sarah Connor. However, from the same war-torn post-apocalyptic future comes a battle-scarred defender--Kyle Reese, a brave soldier of the human Resistance Army--bent on stopping the cybernetic killer from eliminating the world's last hope. The 1st movie was a psychological horror movie- this existential threat of some thing reaching back to get rid of you _for something you haven't even done yet!_ Seriously, give Jason Vorheez a gun and put him in a warehouse district. Give T-800 a machete in a summer camp. Little difference, performatively. The 2nd movie was an action movie that occasionally remembered it was a horror concept, _and it sold gang busters!_ So that set the standard. The psychological threat of a thing you'll never see trying to rid the world of you, through agents that are next to impossible to destroy, took a backseat to the spectacle of fighting/running from such a thing. And a spectacle is _awesome_ (like a fireworks show), but that's.....all it'll ever be.... To outdo that you need a _bigger_ spectacle, and there's only so big you can go before the whole thing is just...... ridiculous. Meanwhile, a psychological horror will launch *A THOUSAND* sequels!!!

There definitely was more depth in T-1 than any other Terminator movies. In T-1, the threat felt real at any time. Technically, T-2 was great, and more “entertainment” oriented. But T-1 was genius and actually oriented to question what direction we would maybe take with our progress in the field of technology. (Finally, some kind of like “Modern Frankenstein’s Creature”.)

This scene at the Terminators room, you can see more details in the background, such as ammo boxes. This gives you a better idea on the Terminator is a tactical thinking Cyborg, who established a base of operations for repairs and weapons storage.

Dialogue by me, Traxler: What about that weird bar code on his arm? It's definitely not painted on. Deputy: Come on, Traxler, it's a tattoo. Traxler: I've arrested a lot people with tattoos in my time and I've seen one like that. Plus, it looks very precise to me as if it really was a barcode. Deputy: Weird people are getting newer looking tattoos all the time and you how tattoo artists are total perfectionists.

This movie, Terminator, was great. When it came out on VHS, we were all pleased. Nothing this good had come out as a Sci-Fi movie before. A beautiful "woman in distress," a handsome hero," and a "mindless monster." I remember that we all loved it. Everything after this movie pales in comparison to this one.

Notice how in the first movie, Reese is telling them the truth and he becomes aggressive and yells and it is a recording that they watch. In the second movie, it's the exact same thing but then with Sarah after her transformation from a carefree waitress to a serious, deeply concerned woman.

Those sunglasses are/were Gargoyles wrap-arounds introduced in 83. This original style was discontinued by late 90s. The original color was smoke gray but later had clear lens, clear yellow, clear red, metallic chrome mirrored, metallic mirrored blue and rarest of all "The Gold Standard" model with real gold plated temple pieces and nose bridge and gold mirrored lenses. They came with ostrich skin case and a cedar wood box. This was the late Nascars Dale Earnhardt's signature glasses. Gargoyles are colectors items and some are next to impossible to find.

Sarah Connor is so vulnerable in this movie compared to the second one. It's a very noticeable change. Even then, in T2, she briefly goes right back to her behavior in this movie upon seeing the T-800 again, thanks to the PTSD.
