+chance webb I agree and disagree. I thought 3 was fun and okay. I think the main issue, was that kid (Nick Stahl) who played John Connor was absolutely terrible. He was weak and a bumbling buffoon, and not the Character John should be. The acting isn't bad per say, and of course Arnold saves the movie. I thought it had some genuine good moments and excellent action scenes. I actually dug Terminator in this one, she was ALMOST as cool as Robert Patrick. Almost. God bless.

I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Patrick a few years ago in a Hollywood Starbucks. I just walked to him and asked if it was him, he said yes and I told him that he was the greatest bad guy of all time time and thanked him. my life was complete. :) by the way, he was a really friendly and modest guy with a family. really stand up guy.

A truly underrated actor. The dedication and the passion he put in T2 was impressive, and it shows. I always LOVED the moment when he says "no no" with the finger to Sarah towards the end, and how he delivered it. So much menace in a simple gesture.

Will Ferrell : Absolutely agree!!! I don't even bother going to see any "action" films anymore. All they are are CGI cartoons. No storylines, no character development, too many FAKE car chases and things blowing up. T2 is not only classic, it's epic. Plus, I never tire of looking at Robert Patrick!

Will Ferrell well its the most tasteful use of CGI I know about. Nicely combined with practical effects.
@Freshie207
@Freshie207 9 жыл бұрын
Will Ferrell Wells it's easier to create smooth textureless models It's why the T1000 looks better than the scaled Jurassic Raptors and they in turn look better than the hairy King Kong in Peter Jackson's version. CGI is best used under certain lighting conditions with specific objects not everything like current films feel. Incidentally though a lot of the T1000's scenes are practical e.g Knife hands, Holes in Head and when he gets sliced in half, CGI was predominately used for the morphing shots.
@gc3k
@gc3k 9 жыл бұрын
Will Ferrell With a few exceptions, I don't think the cg in T2 aged very well. It was just used sparingly-- the overwhelming majority of special effects in T2 were practical. The movies that replaced practical effects with computers mostly look terrible today

+Mau Jo The only thing I wish they did when this was coming out originally, was to hide that fact. Unfortunately, it was well-known before the film's release that Arnie was a good-guy this time around and that there was another terminator who was trying to kill John. I would have much preferred seeing this one knowing nothing about that dynamic. Regardless, the movie is terribly entertaining even knowing this going in. I just think it would have had a bigger impact knowing nothing about it.

The parallels in the two films are really fun. Here's one of my favorites Listen and understand! That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead. --The Terminator Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The terminator, would never stop. It would never leave him, and it would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it would die, to protect him. --Terminator 2: Judgement Day

My personal favorite parallel is just that the movie actually plays it very cheekily with the arrival of the T-1000. It's clearly much slimmer and seemingly weaker than the T-800 (obviously Robert Patrick is way less built than Arnold) It's meant to parallel Kyle Reese, and since the movie only mentions the original terminator from the first movie, and the new terminator, it would lead you to believe that Arnold HAS to be the returning antagonist, only to pull a bait and switch with the reveal that the "weaker" guy is the ACTUAL T-1000. It does a very good job playing with your expectations set by the original movie, by purposely framing the T-1000 as the underdog human like Kyle Reese and The Terminator as the same bad dude as in the original.

This goddamn beautiful film is the pinnacle of special effects (practical and computer effects) even to this day...the use of effects here is not annoying or cheap, it does not take the cake and the attention of the viewer (like the also amazing Jurassic Park), it just adds to the atmosphere of the film...Great review Oliver!

Trololo Inc ® I can't even fathom the ignorance of your statement. it isn't fact, if it were fact, then no one would like it. almost all fans of the original like it as much if not more than the original and a lot of people who never saw or didn't like the original enjoyed it. It is a movie that cared about the source material, character development and is widely considered to be one of the most visually stunning films ever made. Out of 58,888 audience votes on Rotten Tomatoes it has an 81% and a 4.5 out of 5 stars average out of 4,764 reviews on Amazon. So no, it isn't imperacle that it is utter garbage just because you don't like it, next time don't misuse the word fact, its embarrassing and clearly wrong and Im sorry you don't have the attention span to appreciate a deep movie that requires the use of your brain.

Trololo Inc ® oh no! that means you're right, the film is garbage now and NO ONE likes it! what an idiot, way to still prove your original comment wrong unlike my initial reply accidentally mixing up the ratings on one page. So you're still saying that more people liked it than disliked it at a 3.5 in favor? Hmm so you're still wrong and still an idiot. Haha call me a liar bc of a simple mix up, love how you ignored the RT score too... Is this where I use the preteen method of typing, "laugh out loud" on here? Man I was 11 when T2 came out. When LA (my home city) got swallowed up by the bomb that shit scared the hell out of me. Interesting factoid, the bomb never went off but that arcade John Conner is seen playing Afterburner in no longer exists as the "Galleria" which was located in Sherman Oaks CA was destroyed in 94 during the Northridge Earthquake. It was later torn down completely as it never fully recovered from the quake, the arcade never returned. Probably one of the last good arcades in the West San Fernando Valley.

When Arnold slow mo's the jump ppl in the theater I saw it at clapped and cheered. Then the chase near the end where T1000 is in the liquid nitrogen truck. Perfect sequence's. And of course as I was a kid still in elementary school when this movie hit I cried when Arnold lowered himself into the molten fire at the end. That scene was so powerful as was so many scenes in both the first 2 movies.

Another awesome critique. Let’s not forget to give Linda Hamilton credit for her convincing portrayal of a vastly different version of the same character in T2. Not only does the buffed up, psychologically scarred Sarah Connor take the storyline into an interesting new direction, it creates a more plausible explanation for the fact that John Connor is her child. Also, You Could Be Mine is the absolute perfect Guns N Roses song for this soundtrack. I agree, it’s probably the best movie sequel ever made, at least in the science fiction genre.

RedLetterMedia is a whole different beast than this. RLM knows how to critique a film on its narrative and would lightly touch on execution. OH talks a lot about BTS and execution in a films score and visual effects. It's like saying a channel like Rossatron a channel that studies action is better than George Rockall Scmidt. It is not fair because as you can see each presenter is talking about completely different aspects from film...

I remember how badly I wanted to watch T2 when I was young. I was able to catch the first and third movie on TV on various occasions, and eventually found both on DVD. But no matter how hard I looked in stores or checked if any of the channels were gonna play the movie, I just couldn't find it. I was really upset and wanted to know what I was missing, and then my sister's ex heard me talking about it and let me borrow his copy of T2 the extended edition. By the end my mind had been blown and I was bawling like a baby over the T-800s death. I then watched the second disc that showed behind the scenes stuff, it was an amazing day to say the least. But I got upset when I had to return the DVD and was unable to find and buy my own copy for a few years.

I too have my concerns about the Avatar sequels, but they won't flop - they'll make billions (rightly or wrongly). And Cameron is no Lucas, who basically hasn't been a credible film director for nearly forty years, and in that time has only been able to make a decent film by collaborating heavily with others. Cameron's CV speaks for itself and he still has the motivation and inspiration to make further great films. Whether he actually does is another matter, but it's still possible - with Lucas, you just know it isn't.

I think the Avatar sequels may not gross as high as the original for a couple of reasons. One, not many sequels gross more than the original anyway. Also, people have forgotten about the original and it doesn't really come to mind as a modern classic to many; so, when the sequels do come out, people will most likely not care as much.
@wojtektolsdorf1738

I think Avatar sequels will do just fine. He established the world in the first one and I think we know that Cameron is good at taking established characters and worlds and pumping out amazing sequels. I had that the Arnie figure with interchangeable arm, I always used to wonder why he had them & not the T-1000 as that was the one that could make his arms into different shapes. However it was still a brilliant toy. T-2 for me is just one of those films I never get bored watching & the effects still hold up today, better than some newer films if you ask me. I sometimes forget how much I love this movie. For me it was the first really epic action experience. We were so pumped back then getting it the first time on rental video. Watched it in secret, because our parents wouldn't have allowed it. Never seen something like it before and even many years after there were very few action films matching this level of quality. Cameron probably is the most influential action director of the past 30 years and I also would be thrilled to see him going back to making smaller, more practical movies. I hope his influence shines through in the new Terminator movie, which is coming out in 2019.

THIS is what a great sequel looks like. Edward Furlough did a wonderful job here, I never knew he debuted here. I have to respectfully disagree. He's the only real flaw with this otherwise fantastic film. His acting is cringeworthy, and the writing of his character is terrible too. Furlough was the only weak link in both the first two films. He has no acting ability and was a terrible casting decision. This is also evidenced by the fact that he's the only one that didn't have a stellar career afterward. Michael Biehn got screwed in his career, but everyone knows his talents (Aliens, Terminator, Abyss). The other main actors were talented and showed it. Furlough was a dud and did nothing having played a major star role in this film. Yeah, I know he had personal problems and drugs, but that's no excuse. He just had no talent - the screechy voice, the terrible acting, the weird body language...

Rewatched this last night for the first time in over a decade. I always had said it's possibly the greatest action / scifi movie I've ever seen. The acting, special effects, pacing, plot and the ending with Arnold being lowered into the lava... Just so much to take in. It's just a masterpiece, from start to finish. Another thing that I was just thinking too, when watching it again was that when you're watching T2 for the first time, you're likely under the impression Arnold is the bad guy. Then the plot twist is that Arnold is actually good and the cop is bad. Amazing use of the previous movie to trip up the audience. T2 is God like. Great retrospective.

One trivia gave a mult-choice answer on how the T-1000 managed to go through time in a machine where only living tissue can go through: A. Maybe its body *can* act as living tissue to fool the time displacement machine. B. Maybe it had a cocoon-like shelling of living tissue, which it sheds through after arrival. C. Don't ask you idiot.
