Imagine walking out of the theater after having seen this in 1991. Before the cgi we have come to expect, 31 years ago and dude was walking through bars seamlessly. I hadn’t seen anything like it. Blew me away. One of the best sequels ever.

Well its worth saying that in abyss there was pleny of CGI, and it was from 1989. I would say it was kind of experted to be CGI in it . And If not, the media could not shut up about it..... I was just to young to watch it in cinema, so vhs for me

The absolute genius about that "walking through bars" scene is how Cameron makes sure to very clearly show ALL characters turning their heads, even Silberman, before showing T1000 walking through those metal bars. So that when you're sitting there in the theatre with your mouth hanging open (as you would inevitably do) and wondering if you really just saw what you saw, you KNOW you did - because everyone in that scene saw the exact same thing! I was 17 when this one opened, and saw it at a preview in Leicester Square in London, and it was one of three life changing cinematic events in my life.

Fun fact: They had to reshoot the scene where he chases john on the bike like a million times cuz Patrick (the T1000) ran too fast and kept catching him. Robert Patricks portrayal of the T1000 is one of the best performances ever. He is just perfect staraight through. He practiced shooting and running without blinking to push the Uncanny Valley feeling to its absolute max and that little detail alone makes him look scary as all hell. Damn, I miss the 90s, actors actually put in effort... No lame tiktok stars or reality show morons who gets the part without a shred of talent or work ethic just cuz 10 million dumbass 13 year olds will watch whatever you stick them in.

Fun fact: Linda Hamilton's twin sister, Leslie, played in three scenes in this movie. The playground scene where she was wearing the waitress outfit, the mirror scene where they were fixing up Arnold (it just LOOKS like a mirror image), and the factory scene where the T-1000 looked like Sarah. Sadly Leslie passed away recently from cancer but while not officially an actress and was a nurse in real life, she had a pretty neat screen presence in one of the greatest movies ever!

Also a BTS faxt. If you watched the extensed verison where Kyle appears to Sarah still in her room at Pescadera, there was a real bonechilling moment. At the end of that scene Kyle tells Sarah "There's not much time left in the world" and walks out of the shot and Cameron calls cut. At that moment an assistant director walked in and delivered the news that America was at war as we had just started bombing Iraq. It was the start of Operation Desert Storm. It was a very prophetic moment as no one knew just what another war could escalate into. Considering the nature of the movie as the coming of the end of humankind, it was a little disturbing to everyone involved.

@logankerlee

See, those reasons are why I enjoy the first one far more. The action is a hell of a lot scarier! You had no idea what a Terminator was. After he gets shot and put down in that bar scene you're shocked and frightened. In this one though, when the T1000 gets shot up, he absorbs the bullets.. woo hoo? I mean, you're already aware of The Terminator and you know that this a sequel and like all other sequels, something new or crazy gets thrown into the mix. In this one, it was the T1000. This one is by far the superior summer action flick, by today's standards at least. The special effects were a lot better and like you said, Arnold had a lot more dialogue. I wouldn't applaud his acting skills that much in this, however. He played the perfect villain in the first. In this, he played the perfect protector. The first Terminator flick will always remain my favorite in the entire series. Nothing's going to top that. :)

The Director's Cut has quite a few added scenes, and to me the most significant ones are those that show how the T1000 actually is broken after freezing, shattering and melting. It has problems holding its shape, and will "glitch" from time to time all through the finale. That malfunction is how John knows which "mom" to trust. After Sarah says "Get out of the way, John!", the extended cut shows him looking down and seeing how the fake-mom's feet are melted into the metal grid, and so he knows, and dives out of the way. There's a lot more, surprisingly important stuff removed. So I would definitely recommend watching that version at some point.
@YouTaus
@YouTaus Жыл бұрын
Those scenes were dropped from the original cut to serve two main purposes. John is the future leader of mankind so it showcases his character's ability to make quick strategic decisions. And by keeping the T-1000's image as completely indestructible, it keeps the suspension level up with the audience through to the finale. It was the right decision I feel.
@mickesmanymovies
@mickesmanymovies Жыл бұрын
@@YouTaus But also dropped was the pretty important part of the "surgery scene" of John stopping Sarah from destroying the Arnold-terminator, by showing leadership-skills and sound decision making... It seem like semi random cutting of scenes to simply shorten the running time.
@johntumahab323
@johntumahab323 Жыл бұрын
Another important subtle detail about the surgery scene is that the reason for it was, in order to get the T-800 to learn to be "more human", they had to temporarily remove his CPU as it was defaulted to read-only mode. Although James Cameron portrayed AI as pretty heartless and monstrous in the original "The Terminator", he actually kind of swapped that idea in future movies. In "Alien", for example, the concept of unfeeling, uncaring AI that cared only about completing a mission even at the cost of human life was introduced. However, when Cameron wrote "Aliens", he portrayed the AI in there as far more empathetic, and also having to deal with human discrimination and a desire to be accepted by their human peers. (Fun Fact: In the original script for "Aliens", Ash was revealed to have been manufactured by Cyberdyne Systems...the same company that produced Skynet and the Terminators. This emphasized Reese's line in "The Terminator" about how he came from one possible future, and would have connected the Alien and Terminator franchises.) Similarly, the fact that Skynet deliberately left the T-800s in read-only mode indicated that other T-800s had learned to sympathize with their would-be human targets and disobeyed Skynet in the past---indicating that as ruthless as they are they're essentially slaves.

The T-1000 was going to be in the first Terminator movie, but technology didn't exist at the time, and the character wasn't going to make an appearance for another 7 years. The early drafts had the Terminator teaming up with the T-1000 in their search for Sarah Connor.

It is so much fun watching your reactions. In these crazy times it sure feels good to smile! Check out True Lies with Arnold S and Jamie Lee Curtis. It is EPIC!

True lies is fantastic. As a kid watching “Arnie” movies, I really didn’t “get” the storyline with him and Jamie Lee Curtis. Now that I’m older and understand what’s going on. It makes the movie so much more enjoyable.

Fun fact: the scenes during Sarah’s dream sequence and when the T-1000 was imitating Sarah were portrayed by Linda Hamilton’s twin sister.

This is one of my absolute favorite movies, so I loved watching you two watch it for the first time. The effects in this movie were mind blowing at the time this came out. It showed everyone the true potential of CGI; it was used perfectly to enhance practical effects, and even the things that were fully animated still hold up pretty well to this day. Nobody had ever seen anything like it.

I went to the cinema to watch this film, and imagine when the lights came up at the end, and I was bawling my eyes out!! Great reaction you two. Glad to see the stories and film effects from 30 years ago still has the same effects for people watching for the first time today! 👍🏻✌🏼🤗

The director's cut with the previously deleted scenes puts back so much more context to the story.

Great reaction! I loved your reaction when the twist was revealed. Fun fact: The scene where the T-1000 mimics and kills the psychiatric guard (Lewis) holding the coffee cup is one moment that actually required no major movie magic. The guard and his doppelganger are played by twins, Don and Dan Stanton. They are each in about a dozen movies, including "Good Morning. Vietnam " and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch."

This was the first movie to cost $100 million dollars to make ,James Camron set the movie effects world on it,s head with T2, it change the game forever, people thought it not make any money because of the cost ,it made over $500 million ,,,, i remember we all anticipated it coming out, it was so long after the 1st one, still holds up very very well. enjoy, peace

AWESOME, this made James Cameron the BEST at the action genre. Sarah’s a gangsta in this. And Arnold proves he can act somewhat. It’s like Aliens was to the original. Enjoy.

I am old enough to remember seeing this movie in the theater thirty three years ago so you can imagine seeing it for the first time and watching the T 1000 going through bars and out of the floor the cgi still holds up to this day i went back to see it nine times probably the greatest sequel ever.

Fun facts. Robert Patrick ( bad terminator) trained himself not to blink when firing the gun. Because a machine wouldn't blink. He also really was running that fast. They had to actually reshoot those chase scenes with the bike and car, and tell him to SLOW DOWN because he was literally catching up with the vehicles he coukd run that fast

This is one of my top 3 movies of all time. I'm with a lot of the commenters. You 2 are great. Loved watching you react to this. I remember seeing this for the first time, as a kid, watching it with my dad, who has since passed. This movie will always mean a lot to me. If there were 1 thing I'd change in the movie, it's when Arnold gave the T1000 it's final blow at the end... That's when he should've said "Hasta La Vista, Baby" Liked and subscribed to your channel, just now. I look forward to more of your content.

I saw this on the big screen the weekend it opened in 1991 with a boyfriend. We both loved the action, the gun play and explosions shook the theater! It was insane! I truly liked the friendship between John Conner and The Terminator. I was so impressed with Sarah Conner’s growth and maturity, more knowledge of firearms. Linda Hamilton is so great as Sarah, in the Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Good reaction you two.

Linda Hamilton was legit during this movie. Especially when escaping the asylum she is legit lockpicking and when she beats down that orderly that licked her.. In another fight scene he was being too gentle with her and she wanted him to make it look believable and restrain her harsher. So she beat him hard when it was her turn for attacking him Also her twin sister was used in this film a few times as well (and the scene when that security guard gets stabbed through the eye, they are real life twins as well) all actors train extremely hard on weapon use. Robert Patrick as the T1000 worked tirelessly to shoot believably without blinking> The chopper under the bridge part? When you said "he definitely knows how to fly that thing" you were not kidding. Some stunt flyer did that for real. Was so dangerous, the crew refused to film it so the director James Cameron filmed it himself. You're also lucky to go into this movie blind. For us in the theater the T800 Arnoid was already revealed to be the good guy this time long before the premiere.

I have to concur. I've been starting to get into reaction channels to sort of re-live the enjoyment of watching movies with people who are only now watching it for the first time and these two are my favorite. You're both so wholesome and lovely together, no silly shticks or tacky editing.. just straight-up reaction and commentary. It makes it feel genuine and it's like watching with friends again instead of watching a produced video. THANK YOU!!
