I thought the coffin was one of the better clever ideas the movie had as a way to explain why Sarah Connor was no longer around but showing she was still f*&kin bad ass! Hats off to whoever came up with that idea.

The reason John Connor acts the way he does in this film is because he no longer believes he’s going to be a great leader. The opening of the film establishes that he’s lost his place in this world having destroyed Skynet in T2. He is now aimless. He would not be a conspiracy theorist or try to develop a following of people because he believes that that future is not happening. That is why they show him as a wanderer. He has no place in the world. No purpose.

Considering there's no realistic way to live up to expectations with a follow up to a perfect film, I never thought T3 was all that bad, especially acknowledging the obvious fact it's not a Cameron film. It's like comparing apples to oranges, there's just no way to follow that act. Jim himself even admitted thirty years ago when he stated that he'd told all the story he wanted to tell and didn't want to do another follow up or a future war film. To its credit, they tried a few new things and at least had a cohesive and self-contained story that was told in a single movie, instead of trying the obnoxiously tiresome "this is the start of a new trilogy" garbage, which is nothing more than euphemistic pretense from filmmakers who don't have any idea what kind of story they intend to tell or why they need more than one film to tell it.

when I saw this at the time of release, I actually liked it quite a bit. It may have been that I had very low expectations and it surpassed them. But on rewatches it just doesn't feel like a sequel to T2. John ending up where he's "supposed" to be at the end is a neat sci-fi twist, but not a good Terminator twist

I've long maintained that there are only two potential pitches for another Terminator movie which would actually work... 1/ Show the future war (and no, I don't mean day light Terminator: Salvation). Show a group of desperate rebels and in the final act, show a de-aged Michael Bhein step into the time machine. Go full circle. Show the dark, perpetual night time future with the pink laser beams. 2/ Make another Terminator movie where Arnie is once again the threat. When was the last time that Arnie portrayed an antagonist? Oh, that's right; the original film (again; I do NOT count the CG cameo in Salvation)! It would be novel and shocking to see him play the antagonist lead again at this point. Most of all though; make it a mid budget, raw film. Give an up and coming director a chance to flex their creative muscles, free of studio interference. Don't spend $200 million on the production. Take a risk and spend $60 million and allow the creativity to flow free. It's not f-ing rocket science.

Having a HUD as a robot sort of makes sense for robocop as he's still partially human and feeding data visually makes some sense. For the terminator is makes no sense but I'm not sure how you do a shot from the terminators view realistically. I guess a visualization of a machine vision classification thing with a bit of movie magic.

I don't know if it was going from 35 odd degrees outside to an air conditioned cinema, or maybe the film just bored me, but I fell asleep after about ten minutes and woke up right at the end. The major fumble in this film - among quite a few others - is that we had bad Arnie in the first one, and good Arnie in the second. This one should have started with good Arnie, then committed to him going bad for the second half of the film. Instead they just have him beat up on a car for a little bit.

Any chance of a Predator 2 commentary? I'd love your thoughts on how all of the great quartet of series - Alien, Predator, Terminator and Robocop slid down into pure B-Movie territory. I've felt that the first (and occasionally second) films were all B-Movies made into A-Movies by the quality of the A-list director and cast. Later sequels just faltered under poor direction, studio meddling and weight of expectations.

It's amazing how the studio and film makers managed to fuck this movie up. It's not a hard movie to make, but they made the dumbest and laziest decisions possible which led to a bad movie. Hell, I think I would have actually preferred Chyna as the female Terminator. With Arnold's help, I think she could have made a decent terminator. Couldn't have been worse than what we got.

You have to care or be interested in the characters and well...... compared to T1 and T2, they were strong and gritty and T3... weak and dull and the T3 terminator woman is amazing and ruthless and some of the scenes are great but like so many other franchises, by the 3rd, the stories just go off the rails and seems the spark and magic. Cameron did so good on T2 as he puts all into his work, but i think watching T3 again is less of a shock and you can try to get into it a bit more.

I guess the concept that the story would take place during judgement day messed with being able to set any of it at night. I honestly think they'd have been better off scrapping most of the first 50% of the script and have the enemy terminator's objective to become the physical agent to switch Skynet into the military systems. Then most of the film would be the main characters having to survive from all of the proto-terminators in the military base.

T3 really is a crappy movie. It isn't as bad as those last two ones in the franchise, though. Also: I absolutely love Jeremy Clarkson when I agree with him and when I don't. I generally don't consider people problematic. I am not part of the current fad of being allergic to nakedness in movies either. The faster that kind of prudishness and sexlessness passes away in Hollywood, the better. Would The Terminator have been better without the flesh? Would Total Recall? Body Heat? American Beauty? Return of the Living Dead? Police Academy? Deliverance? Deathstalker? Blue Velvet? Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers? Antichrist? Re-Animator? Clearly, the answers to all those are no. So it is for that Kristanna Loken scene in this. It isn't supposed to be watched by very small children, and it doesn't appeal to elderly Aunts and Sisters of Priests in the American Prohibition Era anyway. It was supposed to appeal to teenagers and adults of it's time. They could handle it.

The movie is pretty bad, especially compared to the first two films. It got even worse later on though. You are right to point out the potential. T3 could have been a lot better with some tweaks. But I agree with your points that the set-up of John Connor as the resistance leader is very unbelievable.

Look. There are only two Terminator films. It's a franchise that never should have been a franchise. Just like Alien, Predator and Star Wars. Anyone who has nostalgia for this is just fooling themselves. The thing about this film is that it's just completely unnecessary at best and outright annoying at worst. I don't need to know that Judgement Day will always happen. The ending of T2 with it's hope for the future,not knowing what would happen,is perfect. This movie pretty much spits on that ending. It's bland and forgettable but it's not as bad as later films although that's not saying much. Plus the whole time travel thing is just a joke now. Salvation wasn't good but at least it did something different that didn't involve time travel.
@HyraxusPrimus

The silly moments of T3 aside, how does it spit on the ending of T2? The mission of the Terminator in T2 (and Kyle in T1) wasn't to terminate Skynet before it could be created, it was to protect John so he would be alive in the future and win, because that's what happened in the future. It's not a hopeless ending that Judgement Day happens and the future plays out as foretold.
