Coming Soon on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/15...
Terra Nil, from Eco-warriors Free Lives (Broforce) and recycled publisher Devolver Digital, presents players with a task of global environmental rejuvenation. The open-ended strategy progresses through multiple stages of restoration, including cultivating biodiversity, fixing the climate and even recycling the buildings players used to get there. Traverse the planet, restoring different geographical regions, each with their own unique challenges, flora, and fauna.
Navigate sprawling, procedurally generated maps with lush hand painted environments where everything but the rocks move and breathe. Restore the world’s climate, with unique weather patterns for different regions and a beautiful and meditative reactive soundtrack and audio palette.

But you aren’t saving the planet? The concept of this seems to be that the planet has already died, and you are merely starting it a new, or reviving it. A game where you “save the planet” would put you in a position where the environment is collapsing and getting the planet to reverse carbon emissions. This is where we are in real life, unfortunately time is ticking and once global temp has passed 2 degrees increase there’s no going back.
@Pyranders
@Pyranders 3 жыл бұрын
@@DanksterPaws It's the fantasy of being able to begin again. Realistically, it's a second chance we are unlikely to get, so it's important that we reverse course before things become this dire, but it's nice to imagine that there's a fallback.

This looks like fun, but I’m a little worried it gets into, extreme placement efficiency, rather than just being able to play around with making a nice environment. Being able to do both (and efficiency getting you a better score) is more fun than being forced to be efficient.

In playing the beta(?) version of the game -- there's a 'zen mode' where score isn't displayed. Once you know the mechanics and some basic strats, levels 1-3 your efficiency doesn't really matter. L4 can be dicey depending on your RNG, and L5 I sometimes just have to re-roll. But, that's kind of thematically sound, because an island ecosystem should be tricky to balance. Overall, if you have a tendency to min-max, the game has space for it. But, I didn't feel like it was anywhere close to a dominant element of gameplay.
@empty5013

I played their original game and it definitely had this issue, many missions became unwinnable if you didnt manage your resources perfectly, and you could lose an hour of your time on a mission because of a mistake you made at the very beginning. I'm hoping they change the game mechanics to be a little more forgiving in that regard, devolver are usually great at nudging designers in the right direction so I'm sure they will address it.

ok, this might sound like a weird nitpick, but the game should be called "Nihil Terrae". I know, I know, they sound nigh identical, but the difference is currently, the game in latin is "Nothing earth" or "No earth". That's cool, but doesn't really make sense. Nihil Terrae on the other hand means "Earth of Nothing" or "Earth with nothing" which makes a LOT more sense, in my opinion. I doubt anyone will see this, but I'm putting it out there because I love latin.

I've played the free version, long before hearing about it today, and it was really innovative and fun. I'm very happy to see it get a massive upgrade, and having a commercial release.

This is a good trailer. I get an idea of the gameplay, but also of the theme (terraform desolate planets to spread life across the universe, not to colonize it). That's a fantastic spin on the Sim genre.

this is going to be award winning when it comes out if the demo reveals just a bit of the direction of which it is going. I hope it inspires a new generation of ecoengineers in the pursuit of restoring equilibrium to the earth.

I knew that we working on more game, but I didn't expect Devolver to pick this game up! I am really looking forward to this, I bought this game originally on itch.io because of how it's a reverse townbuilder.
