--------------------------------------------
In the 2400s, mankind begins to terraform the planet Mars. Giant corporations, sponsored by the World Government on Earth, initiate huge projects to raise the temperature, the oxygen level, and the ocean coverage until the environment is habitable. In Terraforming Mars, you play one of those corporations and work together in the terraforming process, but compete for getting victory points that are awarded not only for your contribution to the terraforming, but also for advancing human infrastructure throughout the solar system, and doing other commendable things.

You do produce everything when the game is over because that last final production could change the resources an award is scoring.

I dream one day of a board game channel showing a game with card drafting that has pocket cams to show the cards a-la World Series of Poker

Fun playthrough. The Big Box expansion provides great components, glad to see it highlighted here. Is there a reason you didn't use the upgraded parameter trackers in place of the white cubes?

Alex - Is this setup your preferred way of playing TM or do you usually play with any of the other expansions?

Woot, Devon! Way to pretend you didn't know the game in the beginning to lull them into a false sense of security. :)

@@DevonTalksTabletop Lucky that the brothers didn't zero in on those milestones, 8 credits for 5 points, that is an insane payoff - plus it's 5 points your opponents don't score, they are big. If AP had just one of those he wins. Also they should have leached points from your greenery tiles.

My only issue with this game is the poor quality and graphics of the cards and board. The gameplay is incredible, I just wish they would re-do the cards to match the quality and style of Ares Expedition.

You draft the Prelude cards but not the starting 10?? I don't always draft the starting 10 because it can take a minute, but drafting Prelude cards isn't a thing, but I'll consider it now.

@@BoardGameCo I'd counter and say to just use that time to play MOAR TFM instead. :) TFM has a way more predictable and satisfying end game where players get the opportunity to squeeze out their final points. Ark Nova often ends abruptly and from a shocking distance away and, unless you are lucky enough to have a scoring rotation up next (since the engines score every 2 or 3 rounds and not every round like in TFM), you can get stuck with zero points at the end. Such an anticlimactic and disappointing finish for a long and random game (with a great theme). I'd play TFM 10/10 times over Ark. (@SrebMe2 didn't like it either and we cycled it from our collection after 2 or 3 plays.)

I adore this game. Definitely play with drafting, but we do NOT draft the initial 10 cards. IMO that's a bit much to start. But fun to draft Prelude cards, and then of course draft from round to round.

Did you guys skip drafting for the initial 10 cards just to save screen time? The first 10 are really important in how the game plays out. On a side note have you seen that Holy Grail Games claimed bankruptcy?

Also there is a symbol on the bottom left of the card that tells you what expansion it comes from.

I believe the rules state that you have to pick your corp first, then your prelude bonus, and only then choose your research cards. (so not all at the same time) This makes decisions more fair. Edit: it is simultaneous, I misunderstood.
@crivgil
@crivgil Жыл бұрын
it's simultaneously
@crivgil
@crivgil Жыл бұрын
Also it's fair for everyone, if you choose cards that you said you could grab a corp focus for example on getting steel and then you receive your cards and you got none, so you could be stuck since turn 1, if it's simultaneously you could choose cards based on your corp or the other way around
@snowchamp
@snowchamp Жыл бұрын
You get to choose all at the same time. You only play them at different times obviously. It’s clearly stated in the rules for Prelude. 😅

Drafting is the ONLY way to play this game. Otherwise, you are basically playing 4 player co-op. And yes, drafting the initial 10 cards IS critical as it allows for hate-drafting as well as puts a real priority on your future strategy. Do you go all in on a certain path, knowing you are seeing 25% of the cards currently, or do you gobble up a car that you know is critical to the next person's favorite play-style? The game has not nearly enough PVP interaction as it is and adding as much as you can into the game is critical.
