I have had my terramaster F4-210 for a bit , and I love it / hate it , I will try to get lancache installed to have steamlibrary there :)

I have a Terramaster ( along with a QNAP and Synology ). With its much lower price, most of us don't expect very much from the Terramaster in comparison, and the company really seems to live down to those expectations. I find the software can still be pretty flakey ( like FTP turning itself off unannounced ) and some things that just don't work as advertised ( like the Google Drive bi-directional sync ), programs that say that they are working but are not ( like Google Drive Sync yet again). I've found problems that I have experienced reported by others and acknowledged Terramaster staff on their forum 1 1/2 years ago that have never been fixed. If you are looking for a solid NAS with no features other than basic data storage, and you put zero value on your own time to troubleshoot, it's a good buy. If you want something with a few more features, and features that actually work, go with Synology or QNAP.

Thanks for the in depth guide. Do you have one about applying a VPN to the TNAS? (not making a VPN within the TNAS, but using a paid service VPN to "cloak" the NAS?)

From TOS 5 to DSM 7 rsync doesnt seem to work...

I know synology can have wifi usb dongles but can these terramaster nas do that too?

Most consumers move away from cloud storage because of the absolutely pathetic upload speeds available on consumer broadband. Unless your extremely lucky (geographically) and have a heap of cash to burn most people in the UK are unlikely to have much better than 40Mbit/sec upload at best. Most people on BT based fibre (the majority) are limited to 20Mbit up giving you a mighty 2MB/sec upload. Just try uploading a few GB at that speed when it takes about 9 minutes per GB at best. Now let's backup a TB (not an unreasonable figure even for consumers and a fraction of what most put on a NAS) and your talking the best part of a week solid uploading at best! Not practical in the least! This is the REAL reason that NAS are much more practical, not "security" concerns!
