I recently debated between these two. I have always loved the model 29 and 629. And of course the anaconda is gorgeous. My decision was made when i read on the buffalo bore site that their heavy 44mag is not safe in ANY Smith and Wesson. But they call out the Anaconda as handling it. Tells me how stout the Anaconda must be. As a result, im loving my 6" Anaconda.

The 629 with the endurance package, is supposedly Factory improved to handle the heavy loads. It'll be labeled with an m and an e, I have one, it's stamped m629-2e. you can sometimes spot them from the outside, one of the improvements is longer cylinder lockup notches. Mine has a non-fluted cylinder, but I don't know if all endurance package guns are non-fluted.

@@duanejackson6718 have not seem one of those, but that is encouraging. I have always loved smirh and wesson revolvers. I had a beautiful 5" 586, but it shot loose on the same diet that my GP100 happily ate. So it left. I don't want a repeat of that just for a pretty gun. So I definitely like hearing that they have addressed that.

Both are beautiful revolvers but still range princesses. No Smiths can handle the Buffalo Bore 44 mag +p+, I will also give the Anaconda owners a word of advice. Shooting the +p+ from occasionally is fine, but don't make it a habbit as +p+'s are enough to sill break down the Anaconda. I know a few people that have had some timing issues after Shooting enough +p+ and thrown off cylinder alignment. Only Shoot +p+ through the Ruger Super Redhawks, Redhawks and Freedom arms platforms. At the end of the day I always stick to Ruger. The Smiths with the unfluted cylinders can handle a +p 44 mag round, but once again occasionally. These guns were never meant to shoot full power 44's like the Rugers were designed for. I have heard that Buffalo Bore is more than likely going to remove the Anaconda from the list because of the reports of the damage that does show up from time to time.

@@jskypercussion I question the veracity of your statement here. Unless you are referencing the old anaconda. If so, I have no idea. However, as compared to the Redhawk, the new Anaconda is actually more robust in quite a few areas. I have always been a Ruger fan, and I absolutely still am. But you could take a pair of calipers and start comparing, the new Anaconda is physically a VERY robust build. Aside from looks, it's nothing at all like the previous.

I bought a new Anaconda last week. It is indeed a fine gun. I had my new Python worked over and it is even smoother than the Anaconda, especially in SA. The DA in the Anaconda is fantastic for a factory gun. And I detect NO stacking in either revolver. I shoot heavy loads in the Anaconda in DA better than SA because the DA pull is so SMOOTH there is no indication of the release, and that cuts down the slight flinch I have in SA with very heavy loads.

Yep, the new gen Anacondas are light years better than original coil hammer spring. Is it worth 1500USD? at this point Colt is riding on the name for a standard issue production gun. The Smith is cheaper and better IMO owing both a 6 inch Anaconda and a 5 inch 629 classic.
@TerryBenton Жыл бұрын
I have a classic also. I have a video on it to comparing it with the old 629. Good info. Thanks for watching
@johnalexander73697 ай бұрын
It comes down to what you want to do with it. If you want to shoot full 44 mag loads all the time get a Ruger, Dan Wesson or Colt. While the new Anaconda is much nicer then the old ones it still is not as smooth and crisp to me as the classic(pre lock, pre mim) Smiths. Smiths offer beautiful lines in a lighter weight ,smooth triggers. IMO they're just not made for a steady diet of full house loads.
@TerryBenton7 ай бұрын
I agree with you about everything except the smooth trigger. These new Colts have a smoother trigger than the Smith. Now the one that I used in this video is an exception. I had a gunsmith work on the action amd it is lighter than the colt now
@billj56452 ай бұрын
They're both fine devices. Each one can be subject to QC issues and modern Colts seem to suffer from some shortcuts in manufacturing so YMMV. The Colt will almost always be more accurate than the S&W. I have only seen one Anaconda but I have seen lots of 29 and 629. The Anaconda was easily as accurate or more accurate than every one of the S&W. Somehow Colt knows the secret to accuracy and S&W doesn't seem to care. I think I like the S&W brushed finish better than the Colt polished finish. (The original Classic Hunter was the blued 29 with 4-position adjustable front sight, produced in about 1980.)
@TerryBenton2 ай бұрын
Very cool. I did see one blued classic hunter for sale one time on gunbroker. Fomt does not have as many QC issues as people lead on. They are really well made guns. Thanks for watching. I like the old smiths also.

How does this new colt compare to Rugers super red hawk ?? Price wise you're comparing an old model 629 pre-Hillary hole price against a new 629-6 for 900 or so $$.
@TerryBenton8 ай бұрын
This colt is about as beefy and strong as a ruger. Ruger is known to oversize everything, so they will handle hot loads. The little secret most folks do not know is Ruger revolvers are cast and not forged. I would personally choose the colt over a ruger. They are not that much more cost wise

If you want to buy something that you can get more money out-of in the future consider buying SPY (S&P 500 ETF). I is a guarantee and will return way more than a revolver will pver time. Buy firearms to enjoy and do not think about how much money you can get out-of them.
