Tesla is the leader in the $50k+ market, its goal is to produce 5k cars/week or .3% of the worldwide car market its doable and perfectly sustainable. Cobalt used to be a worthless byproduct of copper mining, not anymore with lion batteries, neodymium is a rare earth, pretty nasty to mine but essential to EV car motors. If the EV consumer market want to develop with affordable cars we can expect to see the cobalt and neodymium price to explode. Solid state batteries might solve the battery density and the cobalt shortage but i don't see any replacement for the neodymium magnets.

You do realize that the motors of most Tesla vehicles on the road actually have zero neodymium in them, right?

Battery size and charging time is inverse proportional. Rather than bigger battery (like wearing a lead shoes), we need micro battery and super charging technologies.

With the Tesla Roadster and Early Models of the S we had the innovators. Now we are at the stage of early adopters. Can't wait until we reach early majority. All electric. Just a matter of how long people and companies need to adopt.

GM just dropped out of the electric car field, dropping the Volt. Ford announced ending all sales of cars in NA, except for 1 model Mustang. Chrysler/Fiat makes no US cars anymore, all in Asia. Soon, Tesla will be the only US mass produced car. Seeing their sales increase while the others with ICE can't give away cars anymore in the US. Truck sales are still decent so Ford will be a truck company only. Considering how badly the "expert" car companies are doing, with all their experience, it is amusing to see the calls by Wall Street to get rid of the innovators and seek "car industry professionals". If it was not for the passion for innovation and drive to change the world, Tesla would be just another ex-car company with a bunch of auto industry vets out of work again. Detriot had no clue what drove sales anywhere but midwest and south. Car writers, customers, auto hobbyists and critics were screaming from early 70s how screwed up US cars were and how they were building them without listening to potential buyers, and the auto industry ignored the ex-buyers and did not seem to notice that neither coast had ever seen some of their full sized sedans. I lived on the west coast and never saw full sized US cars by the 80s and in the 90s even the dealers only had foreign cars on their lots. The experts ignored us buyers and never asked us why we hated their cars. Tesla was what brought buyers back, if not buying but at least passionate about car, a company and passion for innovation. Wall street and detriot still does not get it. My last new car was a 1974 Maserati and had no interest in anything newer until the Tesla came out. I now live outside the US so have little chance of buying one for a long time, but I will.

Archit Goel no I'm pretty sure it's gonna be cold nitrogen gas thrusters and side flaps like rockets have for stabilization. My guess is that they hit a plataeu for tire/shock technology. They achieved maximum electric motor capability but that doesn't matter if the tires and wheels can't hold on. If the thrusters plants it self in the ground during the takeoff and are Omni directional it would be like gliding through roads of any elevation without bumps and achieve really high speeds. And I think it's gonna be street legal. Also I think when it stops the bigger flaps flare up in a really cool manner.

My guess is It's more along the line of communication to enhance the travel experience.

Radar is good but nowhere near the resolution of LIDAR. I bet they eventually add LIDAR.

Human eye don't have LIDAR or RADAR and we can drive, we not need it, it only supporting technology. Most use LIDAR because is easier to begin, but is dead end road.

Yes, LIDAR is good for certain applications. SpaceX uses it on their Dragon spacecraft to rendezvous with the space station. I wonder if aesthetics (i.e. roof-mounted box) affected the decision.

+KNO Diversity is not a strength. ability is a strength. If you used randomly diverse materials in spacex rockets, they would fail. not so random materials? sub par. people with diverse numbers of limbs competing in the 4x100...isn't a strength. we need to go back to merit based hiring and accept nothing less.

Methane contributes 20x more than CO2 to the greenhouse effect. The main source of methane is livestock production, animal waste. Livestock is also the leading cause of Amazon rainforest defoliation, ocean dead zones and other major pollution problems. On the bright side, methane in the atmosphere can disperse much more quickly than CO2, so a reduction of livestock production would contribute much more to global warming reduction.

he said that if you buy/reserve it now with the current version (like longrange etc) and you're living in the us its around 3-4 month indeed.

Product liability laws are strict in many countries and yet all the foreign brands do just fine with them. The problem is the US just is not a producer country, the best and brightest go into financials hoping to become a billionaire and not making anything of value. The focus is on greed satisfaction and not on a passion to create. The whole society worships wealth for wealth's sake and never about principles. We would not have attacked 150 countries in my lifetime if it was about principles. Money matters and nothing else does in the US. At one time it was a country of inventors for the sake of creating something that enhances life. The car industry died in the US because the people who ran the companies never listened to the people and apparently did not even like cars, and only made them for the profits. There is only one reason US cars were so bad, upper management had no passion or creativity and each was company was destroyed by a corporate class that cared very little about producing something of quality and very much about personal gain. About the only brand headed by people who have a passion for what they create might be Tesla

Tesla pays no dividends so the only way to make profit off of Tesla stock is to buy it and wait for its value to increase. Which indirectly helps the company grow.

Having non leather seats and steering wheels is better for the environment and therefore indirectly benefits your health. Tesla supporters would do well to learn a bit about the pollution caused by the animal product industry.

model 3 is consider compact car. It small like Honda Civic. Maybe M3 a little bigger than Honda civic or Corolla but it fit compact parking spot. The new Honda civic and Corolla year 2016 and after are much bigger than those before that. I used to work for Honda dealers as a sell man.
