After looking at the finger that’s picking up the egg, It looks more like a shadow and not the finger pressing into the egg. I don’t think the engineers would want to deceive the audience with a plastic or rubber egg. If Elon knew that the demo was using a rubber egg he would be pissed and wouldn’t approve the video until they used real eggs.

It is a real egg. It is the shadow from the "finger" that creates a strange effect. When the egg is lifted and twisted you see the shadow change without the finger being straighten, hence no rubber egg.

Concerning the egg, whether it was a real egg or a hard egg, what you think is a depression of the egg is a trick of the light. I have studied this moment for a long time because I initially had the same feeling, but it is really a trick your mind is playing on you. The shadow of the finger getting darker and increasing on the right side of the surface of the egg gives the impression that the surface of the egg is being pushed in, but when you take into account the distance between the finger's starting position and the surface of the egg, and the time it takes to touch the egg you can easily see that the finger does not push into the egg but only touches the surface as it would naturally when doing this task. Also it should be clear from the fact that once the finger touches and moves the egg and the egg is clearly round and not pushed in, that the finger does not come out of the egg so to speak to give it its original round shape back, but remains exactly in the position where it touched it and when it passes the egg to the other hand. Had the egg been pushed in the finger would have to move back out a small amount but that doesn't happen as you can see. I understand that everything Tesla does enjoys an extreme level of scrutiny from the entire online community but I would caution everyone not to jump to conclusions based on feelings. You don't want to be part of the "it's all fake/CGI" crowd.

as pointed out by others it's a moving shadow not a depression. As a publicly trading company asserting these were eggs when they could be plastic would be big trouble for Tesla. No worries, as it's clearly a moving shadow from lights somewhere above the Bot. @@6681096

No, it was not a malleable egg. Those were shadows moving across the surface of the egg which look like for a moment as if it was indented but as you saw as the egg was moved out of the light you could fully see the shadows move across the surface, the surface of the shape of a solid egg and also you could see it was quite solid as it was placed in the container that was not a malleable egg.

I don’t even think rubber looking eggs exist and why would the engineers try to create them when the whole idea of the demonstration is to show how good the robots finger sensing pressure is to pick up and place an item as fragile as a real egg. Even if they used a hard boiled egg you would see the cracks made if it was pressure a bit high. Thanks for your response. I do enjoy all your videos.

Well it seems to me that the body is much much thinner. They probably finally started using custom batteries shaped to be more compact. As cool is it might be to use the same 4680s that go in cars, it would never compact and efficient enough for such a different use case. They probably started using pouch stile cells with zero wasted space, also explaining that big weight loss.

Yes, it has been dieting and is now too skinny. I bet the final version will be more humanly shapely (not male or female per se, but less like a walking stick). More curves mean more room inside for batteries and electronics. The extra head degrees of freedom really improve both appearance and functionality. The hands are amazing in themselves. I've worked quite a bit with force-sensing resisters and such (back in the day when those were about 1/2" square :-). 21st century technology is really something else.

Gotta wonder how long before the studios strike or sue for copyright for the use of Optimus and Bumblebee in the naming of these generations. The biggest issue with this robot is the power system, specifically the time before depletion without being tethered. And no I'd dont think Tesla will be creating some micro nuclear power plant for it. But with Musk you can never know. Stargate Naquadag generator? Haha. Musk is such a movie groupie! You could potentially have easy to plug in power cable which could be done by a robot, so it moves to next workstation, hooks up to power and keeps working, so it would charge up batteries and provide continuous power supply when its needed. There are still bunch of questions relating to its performance and how long it can work with one charge, but you can always add some basic solutions to mitigate that, like swappable batteries which could be done by robot itself when needed.

As many people have pointed out, without considering the possibility of an illusion caused by shadows, he confidently asserts, without substantial evidence, that the egg is fake. If it were truly a forgery, it would be odd that there is absolutely no deformation when he switches the egg between his hands. Optimus is overhyped bc it can't do anything other robots aren't already doing. I've been in industrial automation for decades. All the easy tasks have already been automated. Many tasks that humans are doing don't necessarily need a humanoid robot as much as it needs intelligence. e.g. a robot with a task to clear a failed process could be better with one 4ft arm, 2 grippers and a camera. Optimus is suitable for human environments like a kitchen but.... what is missing is the intelligence to use its dexterity and be told what to do! And if it did have that intelligence, you don't even need a body just some eyes and the ability to count the number of parts on a conveyor and see if the escapement jammed and see if the right part is in the right place etc. etc. etc. It could eliminate hundreds of sensors and replace plc programming. This could be a huge money maker no robot body necessary. A humanoid robot will still need this type of intelligence to be useful! We're putting the cart before the horse here.

Considering they've only been doing it for a couple years Tesla has made massive strides. The egg manipulation looks to be ahead of others. T will be able to make a much more affordable mass market product these other companies good luck. T doesn't even have to sell the Optimus for quite some time they can just use it in their own factories at first for just the very easiest simplest jobs.
