Remember your basic high school science folks - it only takes two vehicles at 70mph in a head-on for each vehicle to suffer the 140mph fate.
@brenda663116 күн бұрын
Right, but it's not comparable to a concrete wall unless the other one is a big truck.
@craiglindsay983416 күн бұрын
They're actually *fairly* comparable in that the stationary wall provides enough initial resistance to equal/opposite the force from the moving vehicle, localised to the front end 🤷🏻 Vehicle safety tests across the world use it as a 'best replication' scenario when testing for head-on collisions. If it's literally going to provide the same results, why would you wreck two test cars when one will yield the results 🤷🏻 I'm a mechanical engineer though so maybe it's a bit more obvious to me.
@AlarKemmotar16 күн бұрын
@@craiglindsay9834If two cars of equal weight, going 70 mph, hit each other head on, both will stop as though they hit a concrete wall. But the net deceleration for each one will be from 70 to zero, not from 140 to zero. So, yes crashing into the concrete wall is a good approximation of a head on collision, but in order to apply the results to the real world you have to take into account the weights and speeds of both vehicles to determine the deceleration of each.
@timbob114512 күн бұрын
@@AlarKemmotar the deceleration only matters when working out stresses on the human body, a concrete wall at 70 doesnt serve as a good analogue for the damage to the vehicle.

The abrupt deceleration of humans in this car causes because of the strength of materials high and dangerous inner injuries. Cars need a lot of place in the front for deceleration by squeezing the front together and absorbing the kinetic energy by this. It looks like a tank is deceleratet abruptly. Not the best way to protect people in a car in case of a frontal crash, where both are driving 50 miles for example, especially when both cars are cybertrucks.
