The steering wheel nag has been replaced with the "pay attention nag" which is satisfied by looking at the road. I didn't realize that since I was looking at the road and so I tried touching the yoke mid-turn and it disengaged. After that and on subsequent drives off camera I never had to touch the yoke again and just used the eye tracking.

Thanks for a great video! A couple things match up with dirty Tesla. I think there was one point where he was having a hard time to get the FSD to recognize that he was looking straight ahead too. Both you and he were in the sun and the trees. For me, the more interesting thing was when you thought that maybe the sun was in its eyes. just finished a long trip to Sacramento from Southern California using FSD. With 12.3.6. Thank you, so much, for your terrific work on these videos. I believe, in this one, you have hit on one of the main reasons Tesla FSD can never be the robotaxi Musk promised. Low glaring sun (and this wasn't even particularly low) will always cause Tesla FSD to fail because it has zero back-up sensor suites (Lidar; radar etc) like every other actual working and government-safety-approved self driving system like Mercedes and Waymo. Musk was warned about this issue by his own engineers, years ago, and it has never been solved because it can't be. Because of this, Tesla FSD can never have the reliability required to be government-safety-approved beyond anything but the current Level 2.

I think you should probably take note that your comparison of .3 to .4 should have an asterisk in your comments, that is to say, .3 went through multiple (6)upgrades as they fine -tuned it. But .4 has only had one refinement so far. It may well be that by the time it has also had 6 version upgrades that it is indeed 5-10x fewer interventions than the 12.3.6. as Elon estimated. I notice more steering wheel nags at night than during the daylight with FSD 12.3.6. Unprotected lefts have similar issues on 12.3.6 when the road curves in both directions reducing visibility and the speed limit is higher (i.e., 45 MPH). I had my first real takeover with a deer looking to come towards the car on a residential road traveling at 25 MPH. I did not want to see if FSD would recognize the deer's indecision. I still don't use the auto-speed function, as it will drive at a higher speed in residential streets where we have dedicated golf cart lanes next to the travel lane. I also need to monitor the speed limit signs on FSD, which intermittently on roads I travel frequently will show incorrect speed limits sometimes major differences (i.e., 55 MPH on a 25 MPH street). Here in SC, the Park Assist engages after FSD stops near the store's entrance requiring the driver to takoevr and slowly drive through the parking lot where the parking spaces will appear. I use this function all the time to get perfect parking. I did notice it does not navigate well in parking lots with entrances not connected to a main road. For example, I may set the navigation to a store it can easily find in the mall, then change to the desired store and then it can find the targeted store on the same road it completed the trip to the first store. It does a great job in the parking lot giving comfortable space to vehicles and people walking in many directions in the parking lot. I use FSD every time, I bought the Tesla for its ability to provide increasing functionality to the car after we purchased it. Enjoy watching your videos .

Thanks BT, I often get updates a few days after you and Chuck Cook, etc. so hoping I will have it soon. I feel a bit out of step with the crowd, but for me, the nag is not that big of a deal. Given the choice, I'd rather not have it but it's waaay down my list of priorities for FSD. I typically just hang my left hand, palm down, at the bottom of the wheel and never get nagged. I would prefer to keep doing that rather than keeping my head bolted upright, eyes straight forward (and therefore tunnel-visioned). But maybe that's just me.
@BlackTesla
@BlackTesla Ай бұрын
I think there is a misconception about how the eye tracking works. Your head is doing all the things it normally would if you were holding the wheel keeping the system compliant and supervising the drive. The difference is that the nag is not on a timed interval and you can rest your hands elsewhere (preferably on or near the wheel) but if I you look at things like the screen or your phone or down foe too long the system will ping you with the warning. It's actually much more relaxing than the wheel nag because it's timed and you only need to look in the general direction of the road as you normally would when driving.

Question about nag….right now if I keep my hand rested on the Yoke, I never get a nag. This is the way I always drive. This allows me to use the touchscreen in my model S anytime while I’m driving. With 12.4.1, can you verify that as long as I’ve got my hand resting on the yoke, it will still never nag me or ask me to pay attention when my eyes are looking at the display for longer periods? I have never understood why people don’t just rest their hand on the yoke and then they never worry about the nag or jiggling or scrolling, etc. blows my mind.
@BlackTesla
@BlackTesla Ай бұрын
Great questions. With this new system it's designed to eliminate the need for hand on the wheel so keeping your eyes on the road is the only way to keep it compliant, when the green dot is on. If say you are wearing sunglasses or a low hat thr green light turns off and it reverts to the wheel nag situation and then you can rest your hand on the wheel. Most people do rest their hand on the wheel, as do I off camera. But for the purposes of demonstration I like others on youtube take them off. Also the yokes design is such that you cannot rest your hand on it while making turns as it will cause a disengagement.

@@BlackTesla thank you. So you say that even if I have my hand on the yoke, and I look away, it is going to alert me? Yes, I briefly take my hand off the yolk only when it’s turning and then put it back on. I’m so used to it now that I don’t even think about it. And the yoke has a nice lower bar, which is very easy to rest my hand. Actually, I only rest two fingers on that lower bar. Guess I’ll have to wear my sunglasses all the time to have the same freedom that I have now.

Yeah, I don't agree with the idea that humans can drive just with vision, so that's what the cars should use too, why restrict it like that, add sensors humans don't have so it can cope better with cases like this where only having vision is poor
@williamrogers1219
@williamrogers1219 Ай бұрын
@@karlwest437 The problem with multiple sensors is each one can give both false positives and negatives and the computer (i.e., the human brain) has to determine which sensor to believe in. If vision is poor as a driver you may either decide not to drive or slow your speed to account for visibility issues. For this reason, I do not have enough experience to trust FSD auto-speed at this time and prefer to control speed variations in my profile with the scroll wheel.

@@williamrogers1219 Makes total sense. I always wondered how you guys got the latest versions of the Tesla software. I have a 2023 Tesla model Y long range and I just finally got my free month of FSD supervised the beginning of June. So, I seem to be at the bottom of the list when it comes to updates. I figure that by the time it rolls out to me, tesla will have addressed many of the issues you cover in your video. I will have to say if this was offered to me today I most likely would decline the upgrade as it appears from your video that the only improvement is the removal of the steering wheel neg. Self-parking: I've had many mixed results with self-parking. Most of the time I'm in a shopping center. I initiate self-parking only to have to cancel because there's a bunch of cars behind me honking their horns. I know what they're thinking “what are you doing... why don't you just drive in face first instead of wasting all this time trying to back into a parking space”. I think I've resolved that probably the only time I'll use this is when I need to bake in and use a supercharger. What would make more sense for me is to have the car drop me off in front of the store go find a place to park and then allow me to summon the car when I'm ready to leave. Because I have a 2023, I have Tesla vision only... no sensors so smart summon is not available at this time for me

I've washed the camera since this video, but having a super clean car shouldn't be a prerequisite for the system to perform. @@DerekDavis213 It's not a problem with the car, it's a regional difference. This is because Tesla's FSD is based on video data, and the most driving data comes from California. For example, the most video driving data is from the San Francisco area. So autonomous driving in that area is far superior to other regions. However, over time, the performance in other regions will also improve significantly, so don't worry too much.

As only I seem to have predicted we are getting MORE nag and not less due to the inconsistent internal camera monitoring. I’m sure it can be improved but based on other Tesla software issues I don’t expect it to be fixed anytime soon. Also, a majority of drivers wear shades during the day for SAFETY and comfort reasons. Now this doesn’t work wearing shades. Other camera monitoring systems allow shades. And hats.
