One could argue it is not even a CAR channel. It is entertainment pure and simple. But you are without a doubt the single most knowledgeable EV tester, period. If I were Tesla, I would have contacted the Bjorn Nylands in the world (not sure how many there are) and given THEM this kind of info, because the average Carwow subscriber simply does not understand, or even care, about technical stuff.

It was a mistake to remove the stalks. A lot of people really hate those buttons on the wheel, me included. Especially the turn signals are really annoying to use in roundabouts. That was a really bold move, considering that the aim with this refresh was to make the car more appealing to more people. That move alone will instead make it a deal breaker for some. Instead of a rear screen and ambient lighting they should have focused on adding a small instrument cluster or a HUD, kept the stalks, and redesigned the back so that it became a proper hatchback instead. Far more practical! That sure would have made it more appealing to more people. Now they are actually alienating a lot of people instead just because of the stalks, and the small cost cut isn't really worth it in my opinion.

sexy buttons company has already said they’re working on stalks. Which is silly, but perhaps the only way I’d buy a highland. Indicators are bad, haptics not even real button is even worse. Drive mode also bad - if you’re parking or turning in a narrow road and need to change between D/R mulitple times quickly - a stalk/gear shifter lets you do that part blind so you can concentrate on your surroundings. Reaching over to the screen and swiping (and hoping it selected correctly) will slow you down and lose sight of whats around. Also I think risks increased accidents from people thinking they’re in D/R when they aren’t..

How's your Polestar 2 experience compared to Tesla M3? I'm in the process of deciding between the two following Polestar 2's 2024 update
@Torsten.
@Torsten. 9 ай бұрын
@@IceyJ4lyf The M3 is the sportier vehicle: you sit lower, the suspension is harder, the acceleration is more direct.It's also about 10-15% more efficient and has more rear seat space. The P2 is the more comfortable and nicer car: you sit a little higher (but not like in an SUV), the suspension is more responsive and a little softer, the engines are more torque-oriented, the standard brakes are better, it's quieter, you can get it without a glass roof, the seats are made of woven fabric which is more breathable and you have parking sensors that works. The charging performance is similar - the M3 starts off significantly stronger, but also decreases more quickly. It is better to charge both only up to 70% on long journeys and therefore more often. Some problems on both models were fixed with the facelift. As in the past, people buy an electric car not only because of the best price/performance ratio but also because of personal preferences. I've never driven cars that can be seen on every corner, but that's how it is now with Tesla. Good luck with your selection.

Regarding the top speed its been reduced due to the rating of the tyre they now use on the Highlander. The tyres are designed for comfort and noise reduction rather than higher top speeds.
@desmoheli
@desmoheli 10 ай бұрын
The new tyres are first and foremost reduced in rolling resistance. Tesla claims in the WLTP tests that they now test with a rolling resistance of 7 (old 7,5). Unfortunately this is also the main reason for the lowered consumption figures or increased range. As soon as you change to winter tyres or any other tyres the consumption might be the same as on the old Model 3.
@pauld3327
@pauld3327 10 ай бұрын

To me it seems like there is a lot of bullshit about this... This has never done in any other car before and I see no use. At somepoint somebody will decide to change the tyres for whatever reason and they should be able to tune their car as they please. It is not Tesla's car anymore, I think some people are forgetting this... From my point of view the speed reduction is just a strict business decision to differentiate their trims and models. If you want more speed: go to the performance version or the Model S and pay more.

I wonder if they can put the right turn signal on the right side of the steering wheel and then single press any to switch off or double press to inverse blinking. This would help with roundabouts. The auto switch off mechanism already helps in all other situations.

@Martinit0 10 ай бұрын
I'd be surprised if Tesla didn't do ample usability testing with the turn signal before making the product decision. I'd say try it out first for a while. Chances are that it actually is better because it makes you keep your hands on the wheel.

@Martinit0 tests done on this channel show it is very difficult to use on roundabouts. The only way to keep your hands on the wheel would be a steer-by-wire system and even then the buttons would be inverted at some point.

Like Tesla using all the engineering knowledge they gathered from the cybertruck and applying it to the M3 eg. removing the door handles, adding steer by wire, or changing to the 48v architecture. Or even asking why haven’t they gone full giga casting like the model Y? It just seems that Tesla spent a lot of time on this project and performed a lot of testing for what seems to be mostly cosmetic and subtle changes to the model 3

Another great one Bjorn. Glad you're 'team stalks'. I really dont understand how and why this change was made. Tesla always says 'safety numer one priority'. Well, stationary stalks are safer than moving buttons...always. So.... Tesla want to maximize the acceleration of EV adoption. So thats maximizing desirability. Stalks are most probably more desirable than buttons. Fanboys be like 'doesn't matter, Tesla sells all cars they make'. True, but when demand is even higher due to higer desirability, you can sell the same cars with slightly more margin. Which is good for Tesla (, me) and plebeians who have a couple of shares. Elon doesn't want expensive engineers working on solutions for problems that don't exist? So WTF is this remove the stalks thing. Seems like him (and/or Franz) are pushing their own opinion, regardless of the claimed priorities at Tesla. I hope Tesla reconsiders, or I cant buy a new Tesla when my Model 3 (2019) has to go.
@pauld3327
@pauld3327 10 ай бұрын
Actually Franz wanted to keep the stalks. You can hear him say in an episode of 'Ride the lightning' podcast (in January 2023) that he doesn't see a need or a demand to get rid of the stalks for Model 3/Y. Removing the stalks is Elon's stupid decision. My hope is that nobody buys that car and with very low sales Elon will have no choice but to get the stalks back.

Totally agree on the comfort speed issue. For me 200km/h is more then enough, would much prefer a better ride and a little more range. If you want more speed and performance then get the performance model. Also make the performance model and the long range model more diverse. That is give the performance model much more acceleration, handling and speed. Then give the long range model a lot more range with a comfortable ride and enough acceleration to safely pass trucks and trailers on the open road.The standard model for people who rarely road trip or have no interest in racing and therefore don't want to pay for either.
@felixklusener5530
@felixklusener5530 10 ай бұрын
But why do they need to reduce speed to get better comfort? That doesn´t make sense. Other manufacturers like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, etc. have way better comfort AND stability at high speed at the same time. There is something to the Tesla suspension that is not as well engineered as a German premium car. I mean Tesla is superior in other aspects like the onboard computer, entertainment features, etc., but they could have improved the quality of the suspension without reducing its performance at high speeds. Mercedes-Benz is a prime example for that. Have you ever experienced how quiet and comfortable a C-Class is at speeds way north of 200 km/h? Tesla just doesn´t have the know how to build a suspension like Mercedes-Benz, but instead of cheaping out on such a central aspect and having a bad compromise as a result, they could have bought the knowledge by letting engineers with such knowledge build the suspension.

@@christianolsen9781 At least in Germany roughly 90 % of summer tires have a speed index V (240 km/h) or higher. With most newer cars requiering such high speed tires, the demand for tires with lower speed index is so small, that many manufacturers don´t offer them anymore. But if you want to use tires with a lower index, you can just do it with all season tires or winter tires. German law just requires you to either have a warning visible to the driver, or that you limit the maximum speed of the vehicle to match the lower speed index. That shouldn´t be a problem. You just need to put a sticker on the dashboard that says ´max. 190 km/h´ if the index is T for example, or limit the cars speed which you can do in the Tesla app and in the vehicles settings. As far as I know only Italy requires you to have a speed index that matches the cars top speed, but only during summer time.

Idea for the interior strip lighting inside the Highland / CyberTruck... (Tesla probably already thought of this) The interior strip lighting could be used in conjunction with cameras and flight computer to point-light the strip up where cars / people are in the forward 180 degree view - just for blindspot coverage. Intensity = distance, colour = type (human vs vehicle). Otherwise the strip is a distraction.
