They deserve such recognition, while they are not exactly brand new, nor old- they are definitely a milestone in the car market. I am saving up for the Model S myself currently, and hope to attribute towards their ultimate goal(s). Even from a basic engineering perspective, the success (and failures) they've had thus far are extraordinary. Props to you all at Tesla, thank you.

I've seen a few of these models in the Los Angeles area and they are impressive. Look totally different than any other car and they are bad ass! Acceleration is ridiculous! Can't wait to one day owning one.

To say that the car is revolutionary would be an understatement. Especially after this week's P85D announcement. I drove one a few months ago, and I have never wanted a car more in my life. Hopefully I can order one this April.

this tesla is insanely fast for a full electric car. i hardly get dizzy when launch my 911 S but tesla makes me dizzy every time i launch it. like a roller coaster (that's what my wife said). Ordered the Performance Package One. Estimate delivery Dec 2013. Hope I won't have to wait so long like these guys.

Regular cars have a trunk release from the inside as well. Its a cord you pull down instead of a button but if someone were to stuff a live person in the trunk I would think they'd be smart enough to tie them up before hand.

Thought about buying a Tesla in 2012....so tempted but I got a house instead. Finally was happy to get my Tesla dream in 2018 though :). Loving the video showing the older interfaces though.

The service center in Denver is right next to where I work, so I see tons of these things on a daily basis, these model S's seem to have sold pretty well here in CO, they're delivering a TON of them. Very nice looking cars, very modern styling and definitely very "gadgety" in a refined and classy way. I'm not one who believes in the whole man made global warming, but I still think all vehicle technologies that are found to be practical should be tried, choices benefit everyone!

I live in a 3 unit condo building with a large garage that accommodates parking for everyone. I had a 240v plug put in by where I park my car in order to charge the Tesla a bit quicker.

If it had digital AM/FM radio, no sun roof & nice leather seats, I would be really impressed.

I like when the car is parked overnight charging, updates are being loaded, then in the morning when you get into car their will be more apps, or other stuff new on the screen for the car, i find that to be very nice, I'm hoping in 2yrs i will have one, but it will be the Model X.

They HAVE a lot of buttons and knobs on the controls around the steering wheel (for the important stuff), also I heard everything can be controlled by speech too.

The massive screen is a bit gratuitous I think. It's a car. I don't literally need/want a built in laptop in my car. I would think that huge screen would be a big distraction when trying to use it while driving. I just don't see the pros of a huge screen when a smaller screen (which are in a lot of new consumer vehicles today) would be easier and safer to navigate and use while driving.

In the video they asked why not just use an iPad. In my opinion, you want something that's truly integrated fully on the user experience, mechanically and electrically. The Tesla firmware is upgradeable thus lack of HTML5 or Flash are fixable items through software. However, to stay competitive over the life of the car, it would be nice to have an upgradeability of the SOC (System On Chip, with CPU/GPU etc.) component that sits behind. These chips usually double in performance every other year.

It automatically heats and cools the battery so it's the same temperature under any circumstances.

I've never been a fan of 4 door sedan styled cars, but this car looks beautiful. In addition it has a lot more functionality as a family car while retaining that beauty. Its too bad that electric cars are so expensive, they would sell like hot cakes if they were around $30000

you can actually do more because touchscreen is using software, they can update more functions for you to control your car instead of bunch boxes and buttons install directly to your car. You just not use to it, give it time, people will adapt.

SMH it doesnt take 3 years to get the car anymore... that was a pre-order for the first factory scheduling/ planning for tesla @ nummi. Now its between 2 to 3 months from order date to reception date, which is not bad at all.

A month ago, there was an article in the Nature Communications describing a new battery design that should increase the capacity 30 times compared to the today's best technology. We will see some major advances in the electric cars over the next decade for sure.

Right, I absolutely agree with you. All I'm saying is there's no reason to believe this actually is a valid concern, at least any more than any other car. I'm not saying it ISN'T a cause for concern, either. I think Tesla might be smart to try to make their cars more secure than gasoline cars, and use that as a counterpoint to oil companies if they bring it up, and/or selling point, if that's possible.

From the beginning of cars, the aim of driver safety has been 100% focus on the road. Tesla's system controls are 100% visual, hence it's impossible NOT to take your eyes off the road to "manage the cockpit". I have a Lexus with a screen mouse with tactile feedback, an acknowledgement that pure visual system control is like texting while driving. 21st-century or not, if you have no tactile references, i.e. buttons and knobs, then pure visual controls are distractions, i.e. DANGEROUS.

great car, the only electric i COULD maybe drive (old school Citroen lover here)! i expect a BIG future for this vehicle in fleets - and i can imagine any taxi driver in my city to buy this car to be IN the money (if he has a house or garage)! a big, expensive car that dont rust, is fast, with practically limitless engine life, huge space, and very cheap fuel - it's like made for taxi service! yea batteries will have to be changed from time to time, but still!
