Just upgraded from a 2020 model Y performance to a 2023 model X long range. Model X is significantly quieter inside.

I think that X you tested has some sort of defect if you're hearing wind noise from the A pillar. Ours isn't exactly quiet in comparison to something like the EQS but there's definitely not much wind noise. It's way quieter than the our 2022 Y and even quieter than the Mercedes GLC it replaced. The range/noise/comfort would've been improved on the stock 20s instead of the 22s.

I have the 2023 X LR and a friend has the model Y. My X is much quieter than his Y. The 22 inch wheels have a shorter range. Larger wheels always reduce range. The 20 inch wheels have a much longer driving range. I have no problem with my falcon doors opening in my garage. You need to check with Tesla service and have them corrected. Are you sure you don't work for big oil or another EV company. Very odd review. Love my X, never any issues that you have mention. Odd, very odd.
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee 4 ай бұрын
I'm guessing you skipped around in the video? I have a very short garage, under 6.5 ft clearance under the garage motor, not your typical suburban style garage. Nothing wrong with the falcon doors they just don't open at that height. You need about 7 ft minimum. That also poses a problem in many city parking garages near me. I don't 'work' for anyone haha, I own a model y which I've said in this video and others that I really enjoy. I even say in this video that I really like the X and would want one of the doors would open in my garage. I'm fortunate enough to have owned and tried different EVs from different manufacturers so I have quite a bit to compare against. What model year Y is your friends? 2023 and newer have really improved overall build quality and noise deadening. Older years are quite loud, I spent time in a 2022 and was surprised how loud it was. Do a quick search and I think you'll find most industry reviewers agree the X is not considered a quiet EV inside. That's one of its shortcomings compared to other EVs. I'm curious if you've spent time in other EVs outside of the X and Y? In any case, enjoy your X. I really do like it. If it would 'fit' in my garage I probably would have tried to buy one already.

I agree on the “need” factor! I have the Y, and based off the lowered price and rebate, I’m considering the X, but like you I don’t “need” the wonderful features that comes with the X, especially factoring the resale of my Y and the additional cost for the X.

Ahh yes was very sad to see my Y lose more value this past week with $2k price drop on the Y :( on the flip side it's more affordable for everyone and I already benefitted myself from previous price drops. I wonder if we will see more price drops on the X? That would be very tempting haha.

Hey, thanks for all your helpful videos! I'm curious about how you feel about the GV60 vs the model X. My wife and I were locked in on buying the GV60 Performance, but now with the Model X price cuts, I'm starting to question whether to consider this car that I wouldn't have even considered 6 months ago.
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee 8 ай бұрын
Ahh both are marketed as luxury EVs but they are very luxurious in different ways. GV60 performance is probably the best traditional luxury EV at this price point on the market. It's excellent at all the things you would expect from a luxury car. Top tier materials and fit & finish inside and out. One of the smoothest and quietest rides ever. They also offer valet loaner service so you never have to waste time dropping off or picking up. But their service depts lack experience and if you plan to road trip this thing will max out around 260-270 miles in perfect conditions and you'll be stuck trying to charge with EA which is sadly pretty garbage. Model x is so hard to define. Ride is a bit rough and loud, fit & finish is average at best. But it's got stuff that no other ev at this price point does like the doors and windshield etc. It also has excellent interior space, excellent range (over 300+ miles) and will be very easy to charge on road trips. Right now, the road trip charging sadly might be one of the most important factors. EA reliability has sunk like a rock and the amount of EVs road tripping and trying to charge has skyrocketed. It's a nightmare with EA and I would 100% pick the X if you plan to road trip with it. If you can road trip with another vehicle or don't need the charging infrastructure, then it just depends if you want traditional luxury vs tech focused luxury. Both are great choices, I love my gv60 performance but I know I'd really enjoy the X as well. Hope this helps, look forward to hearing what you ultimately decide to go with!

19s on my Y and 22s on the X. I agree the smaller wheels would help with the road noise for the X. But there's also more wind noise coming in from the A pillar on the X, wheel size won't matter for that one.

Great info Victor. I feel tht there is no excuse for a noisy EV, especially a car that cost more than $80,000 (after rebates)! I understand that people have different requirements but every luxury-priced car (EV or not) should at least be quiet. If I may suggest, a use of a decibel meter would greatly clarify the noise issue from car to car. Otherwise it will always subjective. Thanks.

Thanks! Yes I'll have to look into a decibel reader next time, didn't trust the ones on my phone. I agree, they really should make the X quieter inside. I mean if they can make the Y a quiet car I think they could do the same for the X.

@@CarsJubilee I'm don't sure were you get your sources from, but I just read five reviews on the 2023 Tesla X on KZfaq, each reviewer (5) said it was quiet or much quieter than its predecessor. Do you have stock in another EV? Are you just making this up as you go along? Quite perplexing. I would suggest you review other Tesla X's before stereotypeing all 2023 model X's. Are you aware of items that might cause different driving ranges. Lately, I have seen so much negative and false information regarding Tesla in general. Hopefully you are just misinformed.
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee 4 ай бұрын
@LanceJDanks I'm sure it is much quieter than it's predecessor, most owners agree on that. But most owners that have owned other EVs will tell you the model X is not considered quiet compared to other EVs outside of Tesla. Again, I'm a Tesla owner that likes Teslas but the model x just isn't a quiet EV compared to the competition if you've ever spent time outside of the Tesla product line. I would recommend you try out anything in the 60-70k range in the EV market and report back :)

Very interesting, what year is the model y? And this is from the driver's seat for both going at least highway speeds? I just took a 2000 mile road trip. I drove 2,328 miles, and consumed 680 kWh. That’s 3.423 miles per kWh. The usable capacity of the 2023 Model X is 95 kWh, which means that I was getting 325 miles of range. And I would guesstimate that I drove at 75 mph half the time. There were several mountain climbs and descents. So my “real world” experience is actually better measurement than an artificial “constant 70 mph on a flat road”.
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee 8 ай бұрын
Ya I think that explains the difference as I stated in my video, many reviewers I've watched that say the X is quieter also own older Ys. Very few are comparing the newest 2023 Y which is surprisingly much much quieter than earlier years.
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee 8 ай бұрын
What speed were you driving the other half of the time? My test was 70mph highway only with the actual miles driven and time elapsed very close to averaging 70mph. In real world non test style driving your actual mph average was probably much much lower than that since it's accounting for local driving, being stopped at lights etc which all can skew the numbers. Still it's encouraging to hear the X has well over 300 miles of real road trip range. For the size and storage contribution that's one of the best in the entire EV market.

Thank for the video! About a month ago, I was so excited to 30 mins demo X with my expectation over the roof for much better suspension and road noise over my 2020 model 3 rwd and boy I was so disappointed!!! I felt it was exactly the same level of noise and feel of road bumps in comfort mode as my 2020 3RWD. A week later I got another demo drive with X just to re-confirm and it was exactly the same experience (except air suspension which I noticed helped with bumps but not a lot). After some thought, I think its worth paying 25k after some thinking for X over Y when you are on EV SUV market (if you were considering YLR or YP in red color and tow hitch which is included with X with the car price) just because of bigger size/space, air suspension, falcon doors (if they can open in your daily commute) and ventilated seats. my other disliked in addition to yours are: - no back pockets in the front seats - no pockets in falcon doors (make sense since they open up) - no back seat armrest (this is stupid when S has armrest) - basically no extra storage in the back to store anything

Compare apples to apples and do a review model x with the 20 in rims which get much better range. Also I have a model X and also a model Y and the X is much quieter than our Y. Maybe your 22 inch rims are making your X noisy.
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee 8 ай бұрын
You are right, similar increase in range with smaller wheels like the Y. But in real world driving that puts it probably at best matching the real world range of the Y but I could be wrong. I've seen up to 325 highway miles on my Y at 70mph. I've also watched other range tests and none have reached 330-340. I'm curious if you have ever seen 330-340 miles of highway range doing 70mph in your X? What model year is your Y? I had a 2022 for 2 weeks as a rental and have had my 2023 for 4 months. My 2023 is much much quieter than the 2022, feels like night and day difference. That's a good point though about the 22 wheels but that would only change road noise. That wouldn't change the amount of wind noise I was hearing from the A pillar as the driver. Much more pronounced than in my Y. I loved the X, would 100% get one even knowing that it's not going to go farther on charge and that it's louder inside. But there's not enough there to convince the wife that we need the X. Range wise, you were testing the Model X plaid, which has about a 30-mile penalty to the "normal" or "long-range" Model X. Might be why you were slightly disappointed with this vehicle's range? Also, what wheels were on this X compared to your model Y. In general, both the Model X & S, has better range compared to the Y & 3. With the doors, the opening height has to be set to a limiting height. You have to preset the height limit, as is done with the boot-door height, when used in a garage with lower than normal roof!

So if the x were in 20s they would probably have same highway range. Longest range x according to Tesla is 348 miles or range, longest range y is 330 miles. Longest range s is rated for over 400 miles, longest range 3 is rated for 333 miles. The bigger battery works wonders for the S over the 3. But not so much for the X over the Y. The X just loses too much to being less aerodynamic and being heavier. Still best in class though compared to other similar 7 seaters. But the model y is extremely impressive from an efficiency standpoint. For the doors there is an override button on the screen that's supposed to open the doors if possible. Sadly my ceiling height is just too low. I've checked forums as well, you need close to 7 ft clearance height. My garage motor sits at 6 ft 2 inches, model x has no chance there sadly.

No worries! Loved the X, would really consider it if my garage were a little bit taller haha
