Actually, inspite of the water inside the casing, I was thinking, before he started ruthlessly trearing it apart, that the excess glue might have been there, to make the internal components more water resistant. I was thinking that they might have survived, before he took the crow bar to it.

You know, most of these components were likely completely flooded... but if it's been sitting for a period of time, after the waters recede, than most of the water drains out. But because there's not as much pressure pushing it out, as was forcing it in, the seals are able to resist, & contain some of the water. Therefore, the determines that you're seeing, is where the remaining water level was, after natural drainage. This is especially evident in the motor. Notice how the water mine goes to just the bottom of the lowest plug holes, indicating that that's where the beach occurred. After the water receded, the motor drained out until the level was just below the bottom of the plug holes, & then apparently sat @ that level, for however long it sat for, after the flood receded. It does look like you got lucky, though, with @ least 1 of those junction boxes, though.

Tesla probably uses COTS Parts, at least for some of the Chips. That means, you can get some of the schematics. Then youll just have to follow the Traces. From the Look of the Board, is not as highly integrated as modern Laptops, so there is actually a good chance for Mr. Rossmann to at least check what works and what not and maybe fix some stuff, even without schematics.

If you watch his videos, he won't. If he didn't want to work on a mac pro, he won't want to touch this. He generally doesn't work on things that require diagnosis if there is no schematic and in this case there probably won't be replacement chips. He also cannot test anything, so trial and error replacement won't work either. The only thing rossman can do here is run it through a cleaner and maybe fix visibly broken solder joints or reflow any chips. Rich is going to have to learn to solder and do this himself once he has a way to test the boards by reassembling necessary parts of the car. Be prepared to replace most of the components and any tesla proprietary chip will derail you. It will be easier to find a mangled tesla that has an intact motor.

pennysmith2012 ...myth... Even BMW will tell you so. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNRyobF7lqzaYGw.html The blue and white are intentionally changed variations of the blue and white diamonds on the Bavarian flag. They weren't allowed to use the exact shape originally due to their laws so they changed it. Because the logo was cleverly used later in a stylised form superimposed on the front of aircraft this gave rise to the myth. Because some people are fooled and want it to be this way doesn't make it so...

Rossman is a capable guy. But to fix electronics you're not familiar with, you need documentation. What each subcomponent is, what it does and what voltage it's supposed to be. If you have that information, you can check for faults. But if you don't, you cant. Guess what, Tesla hasn't released documentation to the public. That's why you can only swap components, instead of refurbishing them by doing subcomponent level repair.
@TyphoonVstrom

+Sideslip "Cleaning and baking" a muddy transistor or integrated circuit is most certainly NOT component/system level electronic trouble shooting. Any moron can properly clean a circuit board. Say you did that, fired it up, and it worked. The connectors to that board are obviously not to be relied on, rust never sleeps! you would have to replace all connectors to that board. Do the arithmetic on replacing the connectors. Unless the fate of the world is at stake, Just Get A Replacement Board from yet ANOTHER Salvage Tesla.

RIch, I rarely if ever comment on peoples videos. That being said, I somehow stumbles upon your video series on rebuilding your sport tesla, etc. I have watched most of them and have to say that I have really enjoyed watching and learning about the electric car parts, building and replacing, and also how they factory made them. The reason I am wanting to comment to you personally though, is your sense of humor. I really enjoy it, and not many things make me laugh out loud, but your comments of how they glued every board together, then dumped the rest of the bottle of glue into the box to fossilize it like prehistoric bugs in tree sap was absolutely great. Thanks for the laugh dude. Will keep watching. Good luck.

The purple power cleaner at Home Depot is EXCELLENT at cleaning PCBs. I have repaired MANY boards out of gaming machines that had corrosive drink spills. Just drench the PC board in that cleaner (full strength) for a few minutes, then thoroughly wash it with water and blow it bone dry. If the traces are eaten away, you may be screwed, but the boards frequently look as good as new.

Yes, he is. BMW started in 1916 as an airplane-engine producer. After the lost WW I and the following ban of building airplanes in Germany BMW started producing motorcycles since 1923. So the emblem represents a rotating propeller. Vovve: The Free State of Bavaria was founded in 1918, so the BMW emblem is older than the Free State. And the colors white and blue were also the colors of the royal Bavarian flag. So yes, it could really be a reminiscence of the Bavarian colors. Greetings from Munich

Seriously? 10 days submerged in water. I challenge you to find any car with electronics (all have them) from any manufacturer and submerge the component in dirty water (or clean for that mater) and see if it still works. It looks that the motor and all of its electronic control circuits are well-insulated from water. It is evident from the fact that the water only came to the lowest portion of the motor case. The reason that the water got into the motor case is because of the case air breather. Manufacturers do not make the case air tight because inside air pressure and the atmospheric pressure vary from each other. This either builds pressure in the case or makes it suck air through the shaft seals. Hence, the designer equalize the pressure differential through an air breather in a controlled manner rather than any non intended way. So, when the motor gets hot, the case will breath out. In turn, and as an example, when a hot case get in contact with (or submerged by) water, it breath in air. Therefore, it can be concluded (theoretically) that the water got to the motor case only through the case air breather while the case cooled down and breath in to equalize pressure.

Wait what? Mr. Rossmann? You mean Louis Rossmann? The guy is repairing Laptop and Computer electronics. I doubt that he has the time, facilities and parts to dive into an actual car motor. That's a whole different system. Don't take me wrong i like Louis and his repair videos but this is a whole other field of work here.

David Hollenshead, The car in space served three purposes. 1. They needed a payload to test the rocket 2. It was a great marketing move for both Tesla and SpaceX, generated tons of press 3. It was fun for Elon to do, and for many of us to see. The "rockets", (thrusters), on the Roadster also serves those same 3 purposes. You, like many people, are simply too shortsighted to actually understand most of the moves Elon makes.

Be nice to those circuit boards Rich. Once their clean, they stand a good chance of be ok. Worst case an IC or other component can be transplanted from one board to another. Done that myself and saved many ecu boards. Once took a board from a vehicle that had been on fire. That burnt ecu board donated parts to about 5 other ecu's, and that saved them. Same with chargers and dc-dc units.

Given the corrosion starting on the connectors, relays, solder joints..I'd say this car is a ticking time bomb. It might run great for months or years-and then some connector will develop a high resistance and band-you are gone. These cars are unbelievably complex and I cannot see any shops wanting to repair them.

That one box that had some water in it should be easy to fix? They look like N channel MOSFETs. You cited just replace those. But since they flood water may have be conductive, it’s passable some other things are shorted out if any power hit it when it was still wet.

Likely the whole inverter was filled with water. If some got in , it all got in. Likely the water drained out to the level indicated. the water would drain out to the lowest entry point.
