Great video and congrats on the purchase. Is it a 90D facelift? I am a tesla enthusiast and hang out a lot at the tesla motors club online forum. Just couple of comments - for superchargering speed, how many miles/hour reading is the average speed for the entire charging session. You should only look at how many kw which is an instantaneous reading. Most Tesla tops out at 118 kw and then keep going down as battery's state of charge % keep going up. - Keep in mind that supercharging to about 80% of battery is the quickest in terms of charge time. The remaining 20% charge extremely slow. - when the car say u have enough charge to move on to the next destination. Always charge another five to ten mins. Because the car's calculation always under estimate by about 10 percent. - the wh/hour reading at 80 mph highway speed was most likely the average wh/hour since your last charging. Not the instantaneous wh/hour reading. You have to go to the trip planner to see the wh/h usage graph to get the instant reading. - check out the tmc forum if u get a chance. There is another enthusiast that created teslainventory.com where u can buy new inventory car directly from Tesla at a discount. The listing are in both Tesla official website and also the website I gave u. I don't work or benefit from that website. But a lot of people in forum has found the site to be very useful. So it may help ur friends or family to search. - the non-performance version of 100D Tesla will be coming out in a few months. So the 90D will be in heavy discount by that time. Just a tip. - Tesla cars that was made this year has improved chemistry and supercharge even faster. So don't buy the 85 kwh or the old 60 kwh or the 70 kwh if your family is interested in getting an used car. - don't get too comfortable with autopilot. The problem is it works 98% of the time and that 2 percent it doesn't work in tricky situations could be fatal. It is not a driver-less car. There are still a lot of complaints about autopilot among Tesla users. Anyway, long message. Hope this helps and thanks for the effort of making the video :-)

Haha! Enjoyed that. That was kind of an inevitable decision after borrowing one for a few days. I'd love to justify it myself, but don't do enough long car journeys to do so and I've already used up my 'naughty' credits by getting the Zero DSR electric motorbike, so I'll be sticking with the LEAF. Michael Currie hi Micheal and thanks for your comments. It's a hard decision with the Leaf I have to say, we really do love ours. Thanks for sharing this video, really interesting for the LEAF comparison. Did you find the auto pilot feature relaxing to the point you arrived feeling fresher ? Having to take charging breaks in the LEAF does mean you have enforced rest breaks too, how does the Tesla compare with regard to fatigue range as well as actual range ?
@Jamesandkate7 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Once you get used to the autopilot, it certainly does reduce stress. We just didn't feel as affected by other drivers in terms of them constantly speeding up/slowing down etc (which is often more obvious when using cruise control!). You obviously still have to concentrate but it takes away some of the more irritating aspects of a long journey. It does create a much more relaxing experience. With the Leaf, we were stopping about once every 1.5 hours, and generally this worked well, particularly for me (Kate) in terms of toilet breaks. It is definitely more tempting to keep going for longer in the Tesla, but no more than in an ICE car. We could go for 3.5 hours in the Tesla which was too long for me!! Thanks for watching! :-)

Another great video, many thanks. I'm wondering how much of a 'hit' you will take with the depreciation on the Leaf when you sell it - or were you sensible and leased it? Do you think the GM Chevy Bolt /Vauxhall Ampera-E will be a competitor to the Model S?
@Jamesandkate7 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. We PCP'd our Leaf so literally just need to return it. In terms of competition I think anything that's cheaper will certainly be competitive but they're very different cars. That said, any competition that brings more EV's to market is a good thing I feel.

Very nice video! I'm just wondering how many "charging cards" do you need for that journey? Thanks.
@Jamesandkate7 жыл бұрын
For this journey we needed two. The first RFID card is for Charge Your Car/CYC which are predominately in Scotland. It's free after a £20 a year subscription. We also have an Ecotricity RFID card and used it once on the way back, also free, if you're a domestic customer of theirs, which we are. However Tesla keep installing new chargers, and these are the most reliable by far and the easiest to use in my opinion. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

There is no comparison to the acceleration in an electric car. It is not a smooth increase in acceleration like a gas car, its instant. Reminds me of a roller coaster I rode as a kid, that shot you out at the start instead of going down hill. I only wish these came with a small on-board generator to charge if there are no tesla stops within range of each other, if not only to ease the transition. I hear GM is doing just this.
@Jamesandkate7 жыл бұрын
Richard Smith Hi Richard, were lucky here, plenty of Tesla chargers and plenty of other chargers so you're never too far away from one. Although I've come close, I've never ran out and there are more chargers being installed all the time so I'm pretty happy with an BEV, but I understand how some would need that reassurance until they were more accustom to driving on electric only. The acceleration, well that's awesome, I never get bored of it 👍🏻

When you stopped at Aviemore there was a sign for pay and display car park. Do you have to pay for parking if you are an EV on charge? Just wondering. Your experience in your LEAF came through on this video, you applied the ABC's of charging, Always Be Charging, stopping and topping off even if wasn't absolutely necessary. Surprised the car utilized Autopilot on A roads as well as it did, I had always thought it would be a motorway only feature. Awesome to know that!! Good luck with your new Tesla when it arrives.
@Jamesandkate7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jean-Pierre. Thanks for watching, and hope you enjoyed it. This was our third time charging at Aviemore and each time we haven't paid, to be honest, I'm not sure if it's free or not. Regards Kate.

Autopilot will work on any road with markings, etc., but should only be used on divided roads such as freeways (dual carriage motorways), for safety.
@doubledutch137 жыл бұрын
Jean-Pierre White typically in Scotland parking Is free when you are charging. Councils provided the land in a lot of places and the agreements are your not penalised by having to use a public car park. On street is slightly different, Glasgow charges on street but not for the electric. Helps move people on and free up the unit.

Stoffendous hi there, yep these are the next generation seats, a real must in our opinion, really comfy for long journeys. I think for the price of the car however they should be standard. Hope this helps 👍🏻

+James and Kate "(Autopilot) makes driving a lot less stressful." Which is exactly the point. Autopilot is a driver aid for steering, like cruise control is for speed. It should take a lot of the work out of driving, especially on long highway trips, and especially in congested traffic.

DonR. Hi Don, Model 3 will do much of what Model S does, basically for half the price. Which is perhaps why it has about 400k reservations! Agree not everyone likes long road trips or sleeping in a car. I hope you can find more things you and your wife enjoy together. Try some new hobbies perhaps?
@Zimpaz7 жыл бұрын
Would you consider waiting for a model 3?
@Zimpaz7 жыл бұрын
Or should I say, did you :-p
@Jamesandkate7 жыл бұрын
Being so impatient I just wouldn't manage it. We will have one but I think we'll wait to see what performance tweaks Tesla make to the original model 3 in the years following. If we look at the S they still continue to build better and quicker variants. Hopefully they'll continue this with the model 3.
@LoanwordEggcorn7 жыл бұрын
Model 3 is a newer car, so it should start from an improved base. Range, automation, etc., will be improving organically in all the Teslas. Tesla is working on a new version of Autopilot hardware that will have more sensors and may perhaps allow full autonomy (the latter is just speculation). Model 3 is smaller and lighter than Model S, so it has an efficiency advantage and may have a performance advantage. The limiting factor for all of them is battery power (i.e., how much instantaneous power can come from the battery). As Elon said, Tesla doesn't make slow cars. :)
