For some reason some people feel like Teslas are an encroachment on American muscle, but they fail to realize Tesla is the most American made American Vehicle in the USA. It is American to the bone, and is the modern day muscle car.

I'm not convinced that electric cars are the future. You can take the Vett on a road trip but you can only take your Tesla to the damn grocery store, then it's back to your home charger. So, you're paying lot's more for a car with limited range that actually presents more of a deleterious impact on the environment than it's fossil fuel counterparts. @@logitech4873 The average range of gas fueled vehicles is 412 miles while the average Tesla Golf Cart is under 350 miles. When you consider the limited number of charging stations there's no comparison regarding convenience. I don't know what environmental impact reports you're reading but it sounds like Democrat propaganda. Mining enough REE's to bring enough batteries to market will completely destroy entire echo systems, the disposal of these short lived batteries is also a huge environmental problem, and the electricity needed to accommodate the increased demand comes largely from coal. Additionally, the cost of converting our infrastructure will be billed to the American taxpayer. So I hope all of you Tesla driving virtue signalers feel real superior tooling around town...

@@davieee1168 serious questions: Is building a Tesla and its batteries that much worse on the environment than building any other car? Does the 1 time impact of mining whatever is needed for the batteries affect the environment more than the decades of pollution created in the lifetime of every gasoline powered car? And what do you mean by them not being practical? From what I've heard they're very roomy on the inside since the space taken by the typical drivetrain and power plant is freed up. And who drives more than 200 miles a day? Unless you're taking road trips all the time, there shouldn't be any worry about running out of power during a typical week.

@@myetoob23 The INCREDIBLE tonnage of earth required to be mined to create just one battery is staggering. The rare earth metals needed are just not easy to get to. And how much oil/gas must be consumed to to extract them? Then, when the battery is at end of life, it must be disposed. These ARE NOT good for the environment. And the rate at which they will accumulate will only accelerate. Regarding range issues, when new, is not as much a problem. The batteries, however, lose range as they age. To make matters worse, EVs operating in cold climates become FAR less efficient, making older EVs in colder climates essentially totally impractical for many. The funny thing is that EVs have SUCH an incredibly efficient motor that the fact that the batteries have a FAR lower energy density than gasoline (A Tesla Model S P100D has the energy equivalent of a 4 gallon gas tank) means that there is MASSIVE room for improvement on that front. Not much improvement is needed on the motor front - they're doing just fine. But imagine what a Model S plaid would do with, say, 1000lbs less weight (assuming we can improve battery energy density sufficiently).

Tesla doesn't tell the truth. The car's making 1100hp to the wheels bone stock. The vette makes 660-670whp, maybe 680whp on a really good day, so I'd say it's more like 430hp (max output vs max output) on the ZR1. Don't forget the Tesla makes almost 100% of the power the whole way, while the ZR1 has to rev out to hit the 670, so average useful hp throughout the race is about 620whp-640whp. Also, the Tesla doesn't have to shift. with all those odds stacked against the vette (including the huge wing, splitters and other aero), the vette still put up a good enough fight. @ghoulbby
@ghoulbby Ай бұрын
All of the advantage is tech, what else would it be? The ZR1 is WAAAAY lighter and Modern Corvettes are full of tech too and in this case, he's using launch controls within the traction control systems of the ZR1. Both have launch controls. But there's not much you can do against the torque of an electric motor on a sticky track.

teslas motors can react within 10 milli seconds of sensing tire slip cutting back power and making acceleration more reliable on non sticky surfaces. the best traction control systems exist on 4 motor EVs as each tire is controlled by a individual motor, plaid has 3 motors.

Tried a Model S Plaid. And this thing is mindblowing. You know, i love cars. I love the sound, the noise, the smell, the vibrations, the manual gear etc. I love that pure mechanic soul, this incredible human creation. From the deep of my heart. But, obviously, electric cars are the future. Because it works, and it works too well. It breaks my heart to imagine that we're observing the end of an era. That thermic cars will soon be something old, something you watch, hear and use by nostalgia. But i have to admit, this is it. This is where we are now... And trying to fight it would be unnatural. It would be like refusing what we love in the incredible cars like the ZR1 today because of what they were in the past. It hurst but this is the way... I'm sure we and our children will find how crazy the cars from tomorrow can be and how we can love them. And, in 10, 20 or 30 years, regarding where we will be, we'll watch today's cars and thinking with a little smile on our faces and a bit of nostalgic love in our mind, that finally, and for good old engineering reasons, it couldn't have been different.

The automotive industry has finally shaken up by a technological factor. That factor is the Electric Vehicle such as Tesla. I recently test drove an early model of the tesla Model S owned by my sister in law. That thing defies latency that set the boundaries of ICE cars. It was like launching an RC car on a massive scale. You feel the torque go through your stomach as soon as you give the accelerator a gentle touch. But that was a good race to watch. I love the vettes and will always love them, but I also admire what tesla has done. It's a game changer in the industry. With the price of fossil fuel sky rocketing, eventually the demand for EV's will be greater than ICE powered vehicles. Thanks for posting the video.

the Plaid has torque / spin sensing on every wheel - driven by a central ABS type computer allowing the electric motors to apply as much torque as possible to each wheel up to the point it senses the tires breaking the surface - maximizing acceleration potential. the Plaid is actually faster than a stock Hayabusa. The best time I've seen or run with my Busa was 9.60 stock tires and pump gas.

Yup. Plus, when wheel slip is encountered at the rear wheels, power can be attenuated instantly, until sufficient purchase is regained. It doesn't have to wait for any combustion events to complete. And the contact patches aren't fighting a constant impact-wrench type of force from the driveline.
