Those were nice cars. I vaguely recall the TV rods would tend to stick a little on these cars, particularly ones not driven daily, would likely explain your transmission symptom described in the video. Those AOD transmissions were super simple compared to the 6R80s, 10R80s and 10R140s of today.

My granddad would approve. He had an 86 he inherited but always had Fords and there was an old wrecked LTD rusting away in a ditch behind the property. He boasted about body on frame cars. He could plant a garden and grow nearly anything. Namely, extremely hot peppers. He loved to watch Fresh Prince of Bel Aire too. Hated Seinfeld for some reason. Said it wasn't funny. Well it was a show about nothing after all.

My 91 351 interceptor was still my favorite car. The long sweeping 140mph speedo was awesome. Even had a line and a valve off of the fuel line on the carb to give people gas. I found a old cobra style hood scoop that matched the hood lines perfect. It almost looked stock. Im sure the trans would probably benefit from the upgraded over drive servo and a check the TV cable grommets and pressure. Keep the aod alive.

Wow it's been too long since I've see one in that condition. They were great driving and riding vehicles. I had several over the years. They all had that slight problem with overdrive. It was still a new idea in 85 didn't get all the bugs out yet. There was a slight delay in the downshift from overdrive on quick and aggressive acceleration. Otherwise as perfect car. I'd love to own that one myself. Glad someone is giving it the love and attention.

Had a friend that had the two-door version. Those were great cars and that aod transmission was so smooth. And all the operating systems were so much more simple. They were bulletproof and they rode well. I had an 89 Grand Marquis and it was basically the same way. The transmission chatter you were mentioning.... yes they wanted to get right to Overdrive for reasons of gas mileage and sometimes the transmission would hunt a little bit.

Good morning Rich. Have a great time at SEMA. I had an 85 crown Victoria wagon, back in 1990. It would consistently get 32 mpg with a full load on the highway with the AC running. It had throttle body fuel injection. I bought a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis a couple of years later. Also from a salt free environment. Unfortunately, the best that I ever did was 28 mpg on the highway. Both were definitely great cars. My Mercury was like driving a Town Car of that era. It was equipped with everything except a moon roof. Damn, I hate these new bland cars.

Please no one curse me for saying this but I'm going to say it. FYI just my opinion. I'm so glad I was born in 85. I had a chance to experience what vehicles use to be like and the ride quality. My dream vehicle for a first i wanted was a Buick Century 88. When I tell you the ride was smooth as if you were driving a Cadillac. Long distance family rides were comfortable as fuck. My second favorite which i actually bought as a first car for 1500, 87 Cadillac Seville. Didn't have ac but the ride quality oh my gosh! If I made the money I do now back then. I would still have it! I cried when I had to let it go on a trade. But I couldn't afford it. Unlike most. I didn't have parents who had money like that to help me keep up with the regular maintenance. 😭😭. Mind you I'm 16, 17 and 18 when I let it go. Yes back then you could drive long as you were going to school and work. I didn't need a adult with me. But I had a job since age of 12 so that's how I saved up to get my first car. Thanks to Winn Dixie 😂. Making 5.25hr. Back then that was alot of money to us young teens lol. Nevertheless just my opinion those vehicles are way better than what we drive today. Only thing today's vehicles have over the old stuff is. All the technology stuff. But ride comfort and easy maintenance for the DIYer. I'll take a old classic any day lol. The Cadillac were before there time with the technology stuff. Even the 87 Cadillac Seville i had the in dash computer system told you gas mileage car, diagnostics and what needed to be fixed amongst other cool things. Oh in the engine in those things oh my gosh. Again if I made the money I make now and in my late 20s. I'll still have my first car lol. Oh yeah I forgot about to seats front and back. Talk about soft and comfortable 😍🥰😍🥰.
