A really good review - and helpful 'how to play' - I bought the rules back in may and now feel ready to give them a bash. My only misgiving was the number of troops fielded but I guess it's a matter of basing so it really just boils down to asethetics. Thanks

Looks really good Martin. Includes a lot of mechanisms I like in rules. The cost is about average I would say for rule books these days and due to the smaller amount of figures required to field a force that will maybe offset the cost.

Really nice review. I’ll wait to see some of your battle reports to see how a full game looks, but this looks like a good WOTR system to pick up (smaller table and solo rules defo a plus). Cheers

A great review mate. Really like the look of the rules and I agree it's definitely more accessible in terms of amount of figures needed as it's same amount of figures used In NMTBH but obviously not figure removal but that's classedas a skirmish. But love the way the cards work it could make a game so brutal. Does look like a lot of book keeping what with having a moral dice next to the units and the battle moral. But look like good rules system and will definitely have to give it a go. Nice one mate 😁👍

These rules seem to feel authentic to the period, with the organization of troops into three battles and the cards potentially causing units to not follow some orders. Seems worth a look

Thank You Martin, very informative look at these rules. I am intrigued by the solo potential, the card mechanisms certainly add some unpredictability. Might have to look a bit deeper. Great if you and Matt can show us a bat rep. Cheers👍

Great review video Martin, I’ve watched a couple of other videos about this game, but this provides the best understanding of the rules for me. Lots I like about this game, some interesting mechanics, like a few others I’m a little undecided on price, but I may well give it a go.

Good to see! I picked up the rules in pdf last week and ordered a starter set of Wofun plexiglass figs to try them with. Haven't quite understood them yet, in part the difference between Resolve and Morale points and tracking them. I do like the card mechanism, though, and can see using at least parts of these rules even if I don't get much actual WotR in.
@davidknight56873 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer - Resolve points are at company level and Morale Points at Battle level. Losing a resolve check after melee usually means that company routs. When Battle Morale points go negative a Battle Morale test can result in the loss of the entire battle.

These look interesting, 'card' driven games are my favourite type of activation but there's a few things about these that sound a little off to me. I do like the system for determining how many actions you'll get in your phase though, I haven't seen a deck implemented like that before.
@7thson7263 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, the activation system is very unique 👍

Good review Martin. Looks interesting but I am concerned about the cost. I take your point on SAGA but I have lots of opponents for that game, and so far no one to play this one! But may that will change. Interesting thanks
@7thson7263 жыл бұрын
Very true 👍 these rules are new though and Saga has had 10 years or more to build a player base. When 1st edition came out, which i got on release it was a total punt not knowing if anyone would play. Part of the risk with new games i guess 😁 of course when i write my rules you'll get those staright away I'm sure 😜
@JBurdoo3 жыл бұрын
I have a similar issue in that I don't get to play much at all - maybe once a month with an adult group who already have their preferred rulesets, and honestly I can't remember ever seeing a medieval game at the club. I've been trying to pick on things that I'm actually likely to get to play - but the ability to play solo with the help of the cards attracted me.
@BootsontheTable3 жыл бұрын

Looks like you never found the time (or maybe inclination?) to do a battle report of these. I've looked at these, along with NMTBH, but neither, esp the latter (which I see as more of a WOTR flavoured skirmish set rather than WOTR specific) seem to provide any more of a period feel above Hail Caesar. I'm generally not fond of the random nature of card driven games either.
@7thson7267 ай бұрын
So I did film a game and then I lost all the footage and just never had the time to do it again, it takes a while to film them and then edit so I lost about 7 hours of work 😕

Hello there , what sort of sized units can you use ? My armies are 15mm and are all 24 figures strong, would they be too big for this game ? I also have quiet big armies , about sixty units a side ? mark
@davidknight56872 жыл бұрын
Those are big armies! Bigger than we normally use but there is no real limit on the number of units per side. I would probably combine the units into 48s. If you buy the scenario books and want more units on the table than they list simply increase the numbers proportionally.

What are the best books to read to get an understanding of actual period combat rather than the glossy spectacular Hollywood version we are fed?
@7thson7263 жыл бұрын
Id recommend Richard III and the Battle of Bosworth by Mike Ingram and The Battle of Edgcote - 1469: Re-Evaluating the Evidence by Graham Evans. While they are both specific to individual battles they both do a brilliant job at describing the way the armies would fight
@blahblah-hw3xg3 жыл бұрын
I like the look of this rule system, it seems very fun and authentic, one question I have is do those cards allow much skill in the game, does being told your army has to charge hinder the tactics you want to use or is it still fairly skill based?

Movement on a move and melee card is optional, but if you make contact melee is compulsory
