“If you’re not a test pilot, you probably only get to fly around three to four types of aircraft,” says Air Vice Marshal Mohlah, who has flown 27 aircrafts so far. While rifling through some of my dad’s papers I find a list of 60 different kinds that he flew, ranging from MiGs to Jaguars to Gnats to Sukhois, the LCA and the Rafale. Wing Commander Sharma’s career as a test pilot included his selection to be India’s first cosmonaut, undergoing training for the Indo-Soviet joint space venture, where he went into space aboard the SOYUZ T-11 in 1984. Over his 25 years as a test pilot he’s had engines pack up, ejected from his aircraft, undergone surgery and got back into the cockpit, and so much more. “Would I live my life again the way I have so far? India & USA are allies, so there's no animosity towards American tourists. India has different cultures which varies from North to South..North is known for mostly forts & monuments.,South has a lot of temple architecture which is fascinating .. But India is big, u will take more than a month to cover whole of India. So plan accordingly !!

Other fighter pilots also learn to fly each type of fighter aircraft when they reach squadron leader rank and till wing commander they all fighter pilot learn how to operate mig,sukhoi,Rafael,Tejas,amca,mirage,jaguar so whether become test pilot just join af as a fighter pilot

@@kpm6016 That's such a foolish assumption. A person's nationality is identified by her CITIZENSHIP, not her race. Kalpana Chawla was a great woman who made India proud, bcz of her Indian descent. But the day she acquired US citizenship, she was NO LONGER eligible to represent INDIA, as per the Constitution rules. It's the same case with all Indian-American citizens of the USA.

School only does the testing, which is very rigorous, and very dangerous. Development and manufacture is done by another agency. If the testing is for a newly installed system, or a modified system, the danger is comparatively less. However, in case of testing of a developmental aircraft like Saras, the situation is entirely different. There is NO practical information, only theoretical information. To validate the theoretical information, flight testing is carried out. If a system does not work as estimated, disaster happens. Hope you got your answer.

@@cheekychupakabra Nobody likes crashes. A crash, especially a fatal crash, brings lot of trauma; to family, friends, colleagues and even acquaintances. It is very hard to digest the fact that the guy you spoke to recently is now no more. It keeps hitting you again and again. Bulk of the crashes are related to MiG-21, which in itself is a very efficient aircraft. Designed in 50s, it still has the capacity to be the frontline fighter. It can be airborne very fast, the time taken from the point the pilot enters the cockpit to take off is just minutes. Its pre-flight checklist is comparatively short and to the point. It is also comparatively easy to repair, more like our Tata and Mahindra vehicles and can take heavy beating. The problem is in spite of its effectiveness and capability, it has grown old, There is only an extent upto which you can upgrade an old aircraft. Previous Govts did not take the issue seriously and the Chalta hai attitude delayed acquisition of new aircrafts. And now when the Rafale are inbound, some political parties are creating an environment of mistrust, which could hamper future acquisitions of Rafale and other aircrafts. The same parties are the reason for the delay. Indian Air Force has to guard the borders, and they will do it with whatever resources they have, it is their primary duty. By creating problems in sourcing, we are creating problems for the country. IAF will do its duty. In spite of well structure training programs, practice exercises and efficient pilots, crashes will continue, pilots will die. I pray that political parties don't drag Defence forces and let them work. They know only one thing, to fight the enemy and defend the country, even if they have to die. Let them do it, with honour.
