Here is the video of my ride on the Harley-Davidson LiveWire on a private test track of Michelin. I was very curious to try an electric motorcycle after having watched the video of RoyalJordanian about the BMW C-Evolution ( • BMW Evolution C ride ). I haven't been disappointed!
Specifications in brief:
- Cast aluminum treillis frame and swingarm
- 3-phase induction electric motor, oil-cooled
- 74 hp, 70 nm, 2 riding mode (Range & Power)
- Direct drive transmission with Gilmer belt
- 210 kg (460 lb)
- 790 mm (31 in) seat height
- 65-85 km (40-53 mi) range
- 3.5 hours for a full battery charge
- Won't be marketed before 2020, price TBD
More info, pictures, bonus/exclusive videos on MrKiddo's Facebook Page: / mrkiddomoto
All the footage of this video have been recorded in the Michelin Ladoux Technology Center on June 27, 2015.

is there any regen on braking?
@MrKiddoMoto
@MrKiddoMoto 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it has a regenerative braking, but it works with the electric motor, not directly with the brakes. The electric motor turns into a generator during deceleration to recharge the batteries, and that's why there is a lot of engine braking when you roll off the throttle.

It's just a matter of time before some geek or engineer figures out a way to wrap a bike in a carbon matte black coating that actually acts like a solar panel that collects sunlight to extend and help battery range. This is the future I waited for in the 80's.

Exactly - I'm an European and we are used to the manual transmissions in the cars. After 15 years living in the USA I don't give a sh.t about manual transmission any more. But each time I read some discussion - Europeans saying - this is not a real car with the auto transmission , the driver is dumb because he/she does not know how to shift and a tons of other BS. Same goes with these electric bikes - they will be here sooner or later - there will be 1st time buyer who will not know the regular bike as their 1st one , some traditional bikers will switch .... So guys if you like the regular bike with the shifting, vibrations , filling up the tank ... that is fine . I still enjoy the stick shift cars - but I'm not hysterical driving my automatic one now. Just because you are caught in your stereotype , don't disregard the new technology which will be liked and used by the other guys.

Thank you Jeremy! I'd also have loved to have it for an extended test ride. But those were expensive prototypes, so the test rides were strictly supervised by Harley-Davidson. Anyway, a short test ride was enough to make me realize that riding an electric bike is more enjoyable than I thought, but certainly not enough to make me trade my traditional motorcycle for an electric one... 😉 Ride safe too ✌🏻

I would love one of these. I have a self built 1000w pedal cycle and I really enjoy the smooth silent shove it gives me. I am talking about a modest 30 mph and 20 mile range at best with pedaling. If I could have motorbike performance with a 40 mile range I would be in heaven. I have a Yamaha RD350 that I have not used for years because I am too old to tear up and down a gearbox, make loads of noise and smell of 2 stroke oil. The thing I like about electric bikes is that you can be a bit of a hooligan without anyone noticing what is going on. I live in the UK and most roads go about 400m from one red light to the next red light. To sit there like you have turned your engine off, then twist and go, leaving everybody behind wondering where you went would be absolutely fantastic.
@MrKiddoMoto

So this Harley would fit you well when it will be marketed... Waiting for that, Zero Motorcycles already sell electric motorbikes, with a good range (more than 150 miles), nicely powerful, more silent than the Harley Livewire. Only problem: the price! :(

I'm glad you liked it. I am also a petrol-head, but watching the development of electric vehicles, (bikes and cars), I am fast becoming a Kilowatt-head. As long as the thrill and exhilaration is there, I'd have one! If you want noise and vibration, I'm sure programmable sound and vibratory aftermarket kits will become available for whatever bike you wish it to be. (They could even supply a little pump to push out drops of old engine oil onto a heater element for the authentic Triumph experience, or Castrol R for the racer in you. For the Royal Enfield aficionados it could be made to drip old oil from a dispenser! ;-) )

@MrKiddoMoto
@MrKiddoMoto 9 жыл бұрын

Yes, me too. It's a beautiful bike... In my opinion, it has a bit too much plastic parts, but if it's customized with a few carbon parts, it would be perfect ;)

Not to worry about the good brakes on the prototype. I'm sure Harley will fit some nice spongy and unresponsive brakes on the production model so they can keep up with tradition. It'll probably weigh another 100 lbs and have even lower foot pegs by then too.

I am confident my 2015 FLHP Road King Police has superior stopping power than your machine. One finger braking for an 825 lb motorcycle. Also Harley-Davidson is the only MFR in the world that allows the ABS/Linked Braking System to disconnect at parking lot speeds so as to allow the rider to drag the rear brake and not activate the front brakes. This allows for a safer vehicle. So in plain English "Shut the Fuck Up yellowbusguy".

the only vehicle a Harley can out brake is the Flintstone mobile. They used to use wood blocks on the front so the wannabes wouldnt hurt themselves. True story.

HAL CASEY it seems to him that the brakes are world class because he never gets over 40mph. Its easy to stop in a 1/4 mile from 40 mph aka world class

I like the sound and also the design, it's the first electric motorcycle I like compared to some missiles that are going out these days. Energica Ego is beautiful, and uses high performance components, but is too much 'sporty' to me. Zero DS (or DSR) are quite fine for all days running, but misses design. This HD is very well designed , but they need to at least triplicate the miles per charge. Actually the Zero DSR could run over 300 km with a fully charged battery. By the way, this is the future for sure. We just need to find a way to produce clean energy, before filling the market with electric engines. Cars could go trough hybrid vehicles for some years, but it's hard to use hybrid technology on bikes.

It's not the purpose of this bike which has been conceived for an urban and peri-urban use only. You wouldn't buy dress shoes for running a marathon, would you? 😉

Merci _A3roFr33rideDH77_ !

No matter the source of electricity, the electric bike is over 95% efficient, the ic engine at best 35%. Better efficiency = less pollution. Renewable sources just icing on the cake.

Wonder how much of the noise comes from the motor vs. belt vs the tires. Asia has lots of electric scooters and a number of e-motorcycles. Wonder when (if) we will see the motors inside the rear hub.

Motor inside the rear hub is a bad idea for motorcycles, as it would dramatically increase the unsprung mass and make the handling very bad...
