I really appreciate your using the same bike, tester, terrain and sequence to evaluate tires, but your using the same 30 psi in all regardless of how they work in a particular setting, the manufacturers’ recommendations, or the bikes manufacturer’s recommendations. While your tests are long and comprehensive, they may be need to be longer...for example, airing down a tire in the sand as well as at 30 psi. When seeking a unicorn, no stone must be left unturned.

I currently run Trail Attack 2 on my ‘17 Africa Twin. I run both at 40 PSI. I’ve got 12k on them with around 25% tread depth on the rear. I’m 90% road, 10% trails and dirt roads. I’m replacing them with TKC 70s because a bone punctured the rear. I’ll run the new tires at 40 PSI. Not sure why anyone is surprised the 70s lack off-road. I guess no one reads the manufactures website...

Great video! Bought a set of TKC70 literally on a whim while touring through Germany. Have had 5 sets of Anakee Adventure before this. On two different motorcycles. Of late have had both on a 2019 1290 Super Adventure S. With the Anakee Adventure I rode the bike over Strada dell Assietta in Italy. While not ideal they pulled me safely through. Which I consider a feat for these tires. Switching to TKC70 the first thing I noticed was that they felt less stable than AA on pavement while brand new. Tracking when road surface was uneven. Fortunately they improved while putting on mileage. I also agree that calling them 60/40 is to take it way too far. IMHO Anakee Adventure is better on some times of gravel and dirt, but the TKC70 feels more planted on certain types of pavement. Today I cannot say TKC70 beats Anakee Adventure. Need more experience. For longevity they probably are a better solution. But longevity doesn't help much when you find yourself on demanding roads. So when these are shot I'll probably try Trailmax Mission :) Cheers

Something that wasn't covered in this video that's normally covered in other reviews happened to the the Achilles heel of the TKC70's... And that is wet pavement, but specifically referring to aquaplaning on the center strip of the rear. I was really looking forward to your opinion on that matter. I also appreciate your constant full pressure test over all terrain on all tires. I am running a Tiger 800 with alloy rims and don't yet have confidence to air the tires down at the risk of damaging a rim. It's all good and well to say how well a tire does offroad when aired down, but that's useless to me if I'm not doing the same myself, so your format works very well for me. Noob, I know... Thanks for the great reviews.

Gents, thanks for another awesome video review ....... I’m stymied as to what to get for my Klr650 ...... it’s just appeared the tkc70 had very little anything in the sand or loose trails, while the 80s shined. And in the road, the 70s looked more street worthy, but the 80s worked there too. I’d hate to spin and washout on any trail, sand, mud just because of a stickier street tire ........ In my opinion, the TKC70 is a pure street tyre with aggressive treading. I've done several sets on them and they are the first tyre model where the front wears down twice as fast as the rear (R1200GS Adv). The grip onroad is fenomenal, but offroad it doesn't rally matter what you pick if it's not knobby tyres.

I've done tens of thousands of miles on the TKC70 and they are a very good all-purpose tyre. They are NOT a dedicated knobbly, and should not be treated as such. They are NOT a track day tyre, though they can hold their own. They are still quite capable on modest off road sections, if you run the tyres at around 20-25psi. They are quite good on cold and wet roads, which is obviously something that can't easily be reviewed in California. If you want a good general purpose tyre, then these should be way up on your list of tyres to try. The centre strip on the back tyre does indeed reduce your dirt traction, but also significantly increases the life of the tyre. I'll be buying a TKC70 "rocks" rear tyre shortly, and I'm looking forward to trying it out. I expect it to perform much better on dirt, and almost as well on tarmac.

Any dual sport larger than 400lbs is going to have trouble in anything deeper than 1" of sand. That's the trouble with adventure bikes today is they cater so much to the travel comforts and road power that they are almost useless when off road. If you stick to harder packed dirt roads you'll be much better off. And do NOT ride in deep sand washes EVER.. as he was doing in the video most of the time.

@@chaparralmotorsports There's no way I'm risking jamming some R1250 GSA cylinder heads and 600 lbs of bike into that rock and sand loaded Santa Ana Riverbed you guys were riding in. Mega Uber $$$$$$ damage risk on those heads and jugs.

I think a TKC 70 is a 90/10 tire. 90% street, 10% off road, and that offroad should be limited to gravel or smooth bladed freshly cut dirt fire roads, at least for here in Southern California. These guys are very close to desert conditions out where they ride in San Bernadino County, CA. I would not think much of taking my 1250 GS Trophy in the dirt, or sand, on the trails these guys are taking.... Pretty similar to the Michelin Anakee Adventure tire. Not a good tire for riding on baby head rocks, the TKC70, or sand or eroded fire roads.
