Sometimes coincidences just crack me up. My father (now long gone) grew up feeding his and other families because of his hunting prowess during the Depression years. He was the kind of shooter that would wait till game birds "lined up" before letting loose with his 12 Gauge so as to get multiple birds with each shot as to "Not to waste ammunition" LOL. What did he choose as his favorite rifle? Same rifle as GB490 :) same .270, same 4831 (tho he preferred non magnum primers). What made him such a great hunter was not so much his eyes (which were 20/18) but his "game eye" as he could discern game in cover that most others simply couldn't detect at all. Remember, we were hunting the western mountains and plains where shots were made routinely at 3-4 hundred yards or better, in cover. I'm writing all this because every time I come to this channel, GB sparks a flood of pleasant memories:)

Got a nice pre-64 Winchester model 70 in 270-was my father’s who was from Maine. Good to see somene else taking advantage of a drone to watch the target area! My father in-law had a boat on Lake Winnipesaukee.

I have a 1985 Remington M700 Mountain Rifle in .270. First year for the mountain rifle. Hand loads turned an already accurate rifle into a damn accurate rifle. I was astounded. Five shot groups touching with Hornady 145g SST. 30 thousands off the lands

Ah the venerable Winchester .270. My grandfather had one. On his passing my cousin inherited it. I've never shot a .270 but I hope that some day I'll take the opportunity when it is presented. I've inherited grandad's Marlin 336 in .30-30. Manufactured back in the late 1890's to early 1900's so the serial number indicates. Still shoots great, still looks great. I know that I've probably put 60 rounds through it. Grandad probably put the same number thereabouts since he was an avid hunter. He would hunt somewhere in Wyoming, (with the .270) I don't recall, but I have one of his trips on a film that he shot (8mm) back in the day. He flew in on a DC3.

I'm stupid to have sold my 270 sendero 26 inch bull barrel a long time ago. Now I have a 700bdl 7mm mag. made in 75 and it simply duplicates the same thing moving at 3070 - 3078. It is not a hot load at all but it gives me the same trajectory as the 280 AI. My old 300 magnum Weatherby Vanguard shooting a 180 gr partition at 3140 does shoot flatter out to 500 yards with a 24 inch drop value when sighted dead on at 200. The 7mm drop value at 500 is 31 inches. This is good to know when you're hunting in the same Altitude and temperatures. I have a friend who lives in Oklahoma and he misses those mule deer in Colorado because he never checked his zero at 8500 elevation and shoots over em every damn time. He's a stubborn old Indian guy that I have known since childhood.

I've had good luck with the LEE collett sizing die!! It can virtually, 'iron' out necks. I use it on new brass and range brass. Run the case in, back out a little, spin a quarter turn repeat a couple of times, done.

I've been using IMR4350 for years on 22.250, 270 .25-06 no problems!

We saw 92 Friday!! CRAZY!!! Today was 73 even thats almost twenty degrees warm! (Ct here)

Great video. I have owned 4 270s, still have 3 of them. (My son-in-law has the other, ) I switched to IMR 4350 quietly about 2 decades ago as using anything but 4831 is considered blasphemy in my circle and I never looked back. All have performed superbly. When II can't decide which one to take to the woods, I find myself reaching for my 30.06. Keep up the good work and God Bless!

I had a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 280 caliber when they first came out. I reloaded 55 grains of IMR 4350 powder, Rem. large rifle primers and 120 gr. Nosler PSPBT bullets. I got 1/2'' groups with this load but only after the action was glassed and the barrel was free floated! Those rifles had thin barrels! This was a great WT Deer load however! Great video!

Love those Jim zubiana glasses…I finally broke over and jumped in the 6.5 craze with the prc…pushin 140 bergers and tipped gamekings 3070fps from 24” carbon Springfield waypoint…put 1 on a jug at 200yrds and wow what a hammer..bout to start work on my old 700 7mm and bring it upto snuff….always good to see you enjoying a beautiful day at the range…mines in my front yard..lol. 100,200, and 520yrd targets…thanks brother…matt

Enjoyed your presentation. Bought a SAKO Finnbear 270 on a whim, and was pleased with my first load. 140g Spire Point Hornady over 53g of 4831 surplus powder. The same load used in .280 and 30-06 with 160g and 155g respectively. I got a cold barrel shot and 4 more went into one hole an inch away. Good results. I'm using Winchester Stainless primers bought back in the mid 70's. I later was the lucky winner of a NRA Rifle of the Year, a 270 Weatherby with a Leupold Scope... a huge value... and a beautiful custom looking stock. Haven't fired it, may not.

I have found and love my shooting glasses with built in readers. The readers are on the bottom like bifocals. Great for picking up sights or other close work.

Out here in Southern Oklahoma, the cold is not usually a problem. What shuts us down is the heat. In the summertime, I'm soaked with sweat and off the range by 9:00 A.M. You'll cook out there in mid-day. I began reloading when I was 17 years old. The first CCI primers I bought cost $8.90 a thousand. I wasn't ordering them then, but there was no has mat charge.

I’ve been searching all over for your discussion of adjusting seating depth for barrel harmonics. I’ve seen a few videos where you talk on overall length measurements, but nothing on making seating depth adjustments to shrink group size. 270 is ferocious, long high bc bullets and maximum pressure means good things for long range hunting.

I hope any new shooters were paying attention to the way Mr GunBlue was pressing his trigger. So slowly, as to remove himself from causing any unwanted movement in the rifle. Yes Sir, this was a master class for trigger finger discipline! And it’s the little things, like perfect trigger work, that make the final gains in accuracy… Wow, great video, thanks for posting!

Nice showing of the accurate loads. 2 weeks ago, we had over 2 feet of snow in our area. Last week we had low 80's, and it all melted, and Sunday, we got another 7 inches of wet sticky white junk. And today, that is almost gone. Weather is a funny thing

Very interesting, I switched to from cci 200s to cci 250s (non magnum to magnum) primers in my 270 load. The accuracy didn't change much but my standard deviation became much tighter. I'm currently using 145gr hornadly ELDX bullets and RL19 powder. From a 24 inch barreled remington 700 im getting right around 3000 fps which is pretty potent for a bullet of that weight in 270. After that success I switched all my 30-06 loads over to magnum primers as well and also saw the standard deviations drop. I'll be using cci 250s in my 30-06 sized cases from now on

I love IMR 4350 in the 30-06. I use RL-22 in the 6.5x55 Swede. They work well for me. Nice shooting, by the way.

That's a really nice rifle you have. I have to get my old Remington 700 chambered in .257 Roberts out and do some shooting. The shells are insane expensive here in Canada and you have to order them in from Cabelas. Not carried on the shelves. May have to get into reloading if I plan on doing some shooting with it.

I've only bothered with neck turning with crappy domestic brass who's neck thicknesses are irregular (thin on one side and thick on the opposite side) where a chembered cartage bullet would end up being eccentric to the bore. European brass like LAPUA and NORMA are so well made, it's unnecessary.

Would love to hear you do a video on Remington pump rifles from model 14, 141, 760, 7600, ect. I know it is a favorite of the Benoits, the famous deer tracking outfit up in the northeast big woods.

My old mooser is a 98 conversion in 270 with a 24 in # 2 contour barrel. This old gun don't like nothing but 150 grain Remington roundness. I've tried everything in the book and simply gave up on this old warhorse. This old gun still shoots a 2 inch group at 100 yards. I just like it's looks, and it's proudly displayed on our living rooms niche that I thoroughly enjoy simply staring at, much to my wife's chagrin. Semper Fi.

This video has not much to do with what I shoot (I don't reload or have any bolt actions), but I thought when listening about the mirage effect: "Hey, having that tall front sight post in my AR-15 probably helps to negate some of thay mirage effect". Also, did you hear that Finland and Sweden ordered hundreds of thousands of AR-rifles from Sako? Bet those things are some quality battle rifles.

GB, Another fine video. In one of your previous videos shooting the Winchester Model 70 in 270 Winchester, I thought the rifle you were shooting was one of the push feed versions. Am I wrong or is the one in this video a new or different rifle? I started hand loading for my Ruger 77R 270 Winchester in the early 1970's. I settled on 56 grains of H4831 behind a Hornady 150 grain spritzer which was the middle range load out of my old Speer #9 manual. It was supposed to be 2768 fps out of a 22" barrel. The top load listed was 58 grains for 2857 fps. I've never had access to a chronograph so I have no idea what kind of velocities I was getting but that load always produced groups under one inch at 100 yards off sand bags on the front of my jeep. I'd sight in about 3 inches high at 100 yards which gives a maximum effective point blank range of something over 300 yards if I remember correctly. The 150 grain loads don't shoot quite as flat as the 130's but they kill deer grave yard dead at anywhere from 50 to 300 yards with virtually no meat damage on shoulder shots. No loss at all on forward heart/lung shots. In 45 years or so of using this load I only had one that took more than one shot when I didn't get a good steady hold for the first shot. I'm not able to hunt much anymore because of some age and health problems, but I keep hoping things will get better with new knees and some work on my back. With that in mind I recently bought both IMR4350 and H4350 which I have never used before along with a new pound of H4831. I've read that the current lot of H4831 is a little faster than the older stuff I had on hand which was still packaged in a cardboard container with metal top and bottom. The new is all plastic bottles. I guess I'll need to start over to develop a safe and accurate maximum load. Happy hunting boys and girls!😊

Got into the 270win at the start of the big "C" event. Then 270win ammo and components were cheap and plentiful. Anyway mine is a lefty Ruger Hawkeye and one is made up on a Remington 700. Going out after Bear as it's open but there's still plenty of snow out there even in the yard.

Great video. I recently purchased a 270 in a Tikka and haven’t had the chance to try it out. Winchester rifles in western Canada are scarce as that is what I was looking at in the Featherweight originally. Winchester is behind in production by 2yrs I was told so we won’t see any up here for some time. It is still a great caliber and rifle to pursue.
