These Amaco Glazes ALWAYS work. I just tried one glaze on a Sauerkraut pot and it looked amazing just by itself. I just ordered another couple of those brush on glazes. They are fantastic if you are not into mixing your own or if you don't have the space in your studio. These glazes are already fully developed and nobody needs to do research or learn chemistry in order to have a great surface.

Hello Marie, I'm new to teaching ceramics in my high school. I'm excited I came across your videos. I'm definitetly going to share them with my students and colleagues. I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find the strainer you used as well as the bowls. I'm always looking for ways to make the studio better for the students as well as us teachers. If you have any suggestions on how to create and display test tiles (like the Amaco glaze charts), I'm open to it. And if you have any other suggestions to make a high school studio space better I would love to hear it all. Thank you!!

Hi Leeza. Hope everything is going well with your students. I am in the middle of making a test tile video, but unfortunately, it is taking longer than I wanted to. So here are a few tips that may help until I get the test tile video out. Make sure you number your test tiles on the bottom with a dot tool and write the recipe with the number in a notebook or computer file. make sure they stand up in the kiln. Add a hole on the top of the test tile in case you want to hang them up. Keep the bad ones, so you do not duplicate the recipe or combination later on. Hope this helps. Happy Glazing!!

@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
Hi Cherie. Thank you. Yes you would have to use a low fire glaze. Look for a cone 06 flowing glaze to get similar results because the glaze will have to have a lower melting temperature to flow.

Hi those glazes are gorgeous. I had a question, I’m new to ceramics, I make jewelry pendants beads and charms. What glazes would you recommend for small pieces with some texture. I just can’t seem to get the colors I want or I get too many drips. I’m using mid fire amaco glazes on little loafers clay and firing to cone 6. Thanks so much for all the videos! I should call you Mrs bob ross! You have the same calm voice. Thanks again Amanda
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
That is great, Amanda. welcome to the world of crafting jewelry with clay. It is a little hard to suggest without seeing the pendants, but I would recommend Albany slip brown, Iron luster. They break beautifully to create different colors. I fire to cone 5 and put a 20-minute hold on at the end. It is equivalent to cone 6 but allows the glaze to cure better at the end. This really helps me with pin holes because I like to use a lot of glaze when I layer. Thank you for the compliment. Bob Ross was one of a kind. No one was able to fill his shoes. Not even his son. 💖

I’m new to ceramics so I hope these questions don’t seem to basic.What is it that causes the banding when you covered the whole mug with each color? Would you get the same affect with a different companies glazes like mayco? Would you get a different affect if you applied the colors in a different order? Would you get a different affect if firing at a different cone?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
All questions are good questions. We are all here to learn and get ideas from each other. There are glazes that are stable and glazes that flow. When applying glazes, make sure you know if they flow or float or if they stay in place (are sable). Different glazes will react differently with different clay bodies. That is why making test tiles and test firing your glazes to see how the clay and glaze react with each other. Yes, you would get a different effect if you glaze colors in different orders. Glazing can be so much fun. This article should help. Here is the link for you. potterycrafters.com/how-to-choose-pottery-glaze/ 😊

Thank you so much for this educational video. I will definitely try these combinations. When you pour the Amaco glaze inside the mugs do you dilute it with water first? I heard that brush on glazes has gum in them to make them thicker and easier to brush on. So when pouring them , are they a bit too think?

Hi Pearl. Welcome to the fun world of crafting pottery. That is a good question. Yes, you can layer, and I have layered up to 6 coats with no issues. Which also depends on the thickness of the applications. The directions say 3 coats because the directions are for one color. You can't have too many coats on your pottery because it will be too thick. On the other hand, you don't want the glaze to be too thin. Here is a link to glazing tips that will be helpful for you potterycrafters.com/glazing-pottery-27-glazing-tips-for-beginners/ 😊
