The strawberry slicer, just like an egg slicer, needs to used on a flat sturdy surface, with you pushing down on the top part. Holding it in the air using both hands is likely why it was both difficult and why it launched the strawberries.

I own the strawberry slicer and it is great. I do use it frequently because in warm weather I often make strawberry deserts that require sliced strawberries. I leave the slicer on a cutting board instead of squeezing it in my hand and I have never had a strawberry slice launch into the air like you showed. I think this product is great.

I have an all plastic pepper corer and I set the pepper on the cutting board and push the corer in as far as I can without it coming out the bottom and twist. I get almost all of the membrane and seeds out that way. You only pushed it in 1/2 to 2/3 as far as it would go. And for strawberries, I use my hard boiled egg slicer--works just as well.

For the cuke/carrot slicer: perhaps you could leave the cuke whole, insert it in the tool, and flip it over with the cuke on the cutting board, then press down until the handles touch the cutting board. Then flip it over, attach the pusher and complete the pushing through. It’s worth a try.
@lowwastehighmelanin

could also try a more uniformly sized cuc. and an Asian carrot. The English cucumbers tend to grow a little fatter at one end here. Persian ones might do well in that slicer; I saw that the label was in German and those are more common over there than the English style.

I think the reason your strawberries were flying out of the slicer was because you need to have it laying flat on the counter and then slowly push it down. I have one and mine have never flown across the counter lol. I agree with the banana hat. It is just an over priced hat lol

I bet that 6-way slicer would be great if you made your own pickles. The way the blades on the strawberry slicer are so oddly curved makes me think the added pressure needed to get all the way through might be to overcome their misalignment. Make sure the blades are straight and try again. The strawberry huller could be used on a peeled pineapple to remove any remaining eyes, too. A little less rotation on the twist with the pepper corer, I think. And certainly don't have your hand on the bottom- YIKES! The banana keeper effect can be had with a small piece of plastic wrap. Thanks and cheers!

Outside of physical limitation accessibility issues there's very few kitchen gadgets that perform better over just learning how to use a knife properly. Something like a vegetable spiralizer for making veggie sheets and noodles is a good example.

Try the banana hats on unripe banana. Once a fruit is ripe you can't really stop it from getting soft but you can stop a fruit from getting ripe. You can use just plain plastic wrap over the end for the same effect.

I've found that if I leave the green bananas on the counter and they turn the perfect shade of yellow and are at peak ripeness (not mushy yet) I put them in the fridge and it slows down the ripening. You can't keep them in there too long but I personally hate it when they are too ripe and soft and this keeps them where I like them longer.

you have to TASTE a banana to see how ripe it really is, the the skin is only a general indicator, it's not uncommon to find yellow peels on an overripe banana, and vice versa. That's why Organic bananas already come with plastic wrap on the end, since you pay more this helps them last longer.

I put my banana's in the fridge, not to keep them longer but to prevent fruit flies. I put the peels in the freezer in a double bag inside a container, until I take outside for collection every week. The banana's in the fridge also stay in a bag, and a bundle of 7 last a full week without really turning the outside much browner than what was presented here. So my personal experience, with them in a bag at the bottom shelf of a fridge, they seem to last perfectly fine as seen in this video. If not slightly better, and since they are enclosed, they don't attract fruit flies. A win/win in my book.

I have #3 the 2 pc fruit & veggie slicer (white & green). It works great on strawberries, cherry tomatoes, olives, grapes, etc. Yes, if the piece is small it will move around inside the white tube & you may not get perfectly even slices but it does a quick job instead of trying to hold onto small pieces to slice with a knife, definitely less risk of cutting your fingers. As for the fatter ends of the cucumber or carrot, you can just slice those in half lengthwise to trim down the girth so it will fit inside better. I like that tool, it certainly has helped me speed up the time it takes to slice up fruits & veggies. As for those silly Nana Hats - save your $10+ tax & either use a bit of plastic cellophane wrap to cover the stems or separate the bananas from each other so they're not in a bunch. I've found them to turn brown & soft much slower using that technique.

The strawberry slicer would work fine placed on the cutting board. You can actually get more professional versions of the stem remover that work on apples, pears, etc., as well as strawberries. The wedge slicer would probably work best with English (seedless) cucumbers since they're thinner, and the strawberries of course. But, if you're really going to do a lot of wedge slicing on carrots or a number of other things, you might as well get a countertop, lever action wedge slicer. They're usually meant for lemons and limes, but you can get them big enough for oranges, and they'd probably do carrots as long as they're straight. And finally, just hang your bananas on a hook where the ethylene gas can rise away from them.

All of these are for one single job. Unless you have limitations with using a knife, at which time then these might help. Then they can all be done relatively easily with a knife. Most don’t need as much energy with a knife as the gadgets. I’d love to know if you could cut the items faster, than cutting things in half then cutting them. Or slicing strawberries. I know I can clean a pepper faster and not leave a crack in every one of them. Hulling strawberries would be ok if you cut a bushel a few times a month. But a knife you use one movement and the same tool.

As far as the stem remover on the strawberry, it's far better than cutting so much usable strawberry off the top. That said, you can use a straw to remove and "core' a strawberry. You do have to manually remove any leaves, but other than that, try a good straw. As far as slicing. I can't say I honestly ever had a reason to slice strawberries neatly. I'm usually cutting them up into small pieces to put in some sugar water for strawberry short cake. Mmm.

If you hold that partially sliced strawberry just right, it looks like Audrey, from, "Little Shop of Horrors"...😂

Great video as usual. I watch for the entertainment value alone and would most likely never buy any of products you review. 👍

Tip for anyone: For strawberry stems, just use a metal straw. Push it up through the center of the fruit. Works wonders.

its always interesting to hear different linquistic and cultural naming forms, and that is why i enjoy watching. what you call bell peppers we call capsicum. but there have been many others over the years. keep it up, understanding cultural differences makes us all better people.

I've had dogs that would eat vegetables mixed in with meat and gravy in their bowl, but never a dog that would get excited for carrot or capsicum. Thanks for the content.

Time to make some banana bread! What does work on them is separating them into individual bananas and wrap the stems in plastic wrap. They ripen from the stem to the end, and the gases can't really get out if you wrap them individually. The reason the banana hats aren't keeping the gases in is because they are leaking out from between the junction of the bananas that's not covered. Wrap the full stem individually and you will get at least 1-2 weeks longer. Works great with plastic wrap, no extra expense needed.

Supposedly wrapping each individual banana's stem in plastic wrap is the best way to slow ripening.
