just to add you can change the step pins in the GRBL so you don't have to physically disconnect the wiring. the pins have built in H Bridge within the OP amp of the IC

As a machinist in the Navy we had to do all the engraving for the entire ship. This little machine looks just like the one's we used for that. You should be able to adjust your speed and feed rates to decrease your production time.

can you do a recording of how to engrave aluminium , I have same machine, and have been cutting ally metal but would like to know what is the best cutters to use on aluminium. i only have one type v tool, I don't even know the angle of it as it dont say.

DO NOT change the wiring on the motors......... In grbl, enter command $3=5 in the console and that will sort the direction of the motors.

Right on, you ended up getting laser!! I bet this unit will be all kinds of fun once you work out all the isms and feel more comfortable with its pros & cons. Hopefully you can find some shorter bits...or just cut these off.

Cnc machines are not that fast. Really depends on resolution. A small machine like this one, is limited to deapth of cut and step over of cut. Laser pretty cool, but what about safety. Eye protection and reflection?

I have a CNC 3018 pro device that I worked on and I gave some cancellation during work and because the motor parking device stays in a state of complete parking and a sound comes out of the motor in the case of an attempt .... Can the piece be whistled to return to what it was ..... please help

I bought one of those because I couldn't buy the parts to make one for that price but the Y axis was too slow so I removed the drive screw and used a timing belt and remounted the motor. I already have a router so removing the Z axis motor lightened it up a lot so now it goes a lot faster but I am going to put a bigger motor so I can up the acceleration. Currently I have the speed at 350mm per sec but the poor acceleration means lot steps at the end of each row.

You know you can use Fusion360 on hobby license, and newest Candle (this from Chinese CD is outdated)? By the way, this CNC is fantastic for PCB prototyping.

On the collar, if the shaft doesn't have a flat spot but the bits do, could you not just tighten the grub screws against a flat spot on the bit? Does that not hold good enough?

when you do your logo, just burn around the edge of your logo (or like a border) it will be nicer than a full laser engrave

Ben I purchased another control board because the one I got had no laser port. I got a :Fan’ensheng 3018 CNC Router 3 Axis Control Board GRBL USB Stepper Motor Driver DIY Laser Engraver Milling Engraving Machine Controller. The old board came with a 24 volt DC supply. The new one had no supply. Is the DC supply 24 volts also ? Need hookup info on this board.

Can you attach some kind of exacto knife blade (let it swivel via the motor but apply no power to the motor) to cut cardboard, paper or vinyl stencils?

Yes you can, but it can be time consuming. Let the software do it then modify it as necessary.

Once you are in your desired home position there is a box saying set home on the screen if you are using Easel

Best is to add end stop so you can reposition when needed

@@benjaminlee9735 An end stop is a micro switch. On some of the cheap mill they aren't included.So you'll need to place them yourself. The Switch is to position more exactly your machine so you can start or restart your program. Enjoy Milling ;-)

I got mine from Ebay with the updated control board and er11 collet The grbl candle software works but I've been looking for a better platform to work from Easel works well to run your cad and generate gcode with I haven't ran the laser yet Be prepared to break tool bits tho It is slow for either more detail work and I carved 2mm deep project in MDF a 100mm x100m and that took over 2hrs
