Testing a 4w Wifi Amplifier from China
In one of my very first videos I looked at a 2w wifi amplifier. Now that I have better test equipment or I should say, now that I have test equipment, as well as a much better sound and video setup I thought I would take a look at these new amplifiers from ebay.
Here is a link to the one I got from ebay: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22200220021...

I have an identical one running 24/7 for 6 months now. Driven with 100 mw to get full 4 watts out into a panel antenna and it barely gets warm. Works very well and is the only solution that works after trying everything else. Highly recommended. Using it to view this video and make this comment....;-)

I've been having a lot of fun watching your videos, experimenting with antennas and actually having good results. Recently I purchased an Alfa card from eBay and now I get 100% signal and -45dbm atenuation, whereas I used to get 80% and -55dbm with a 7 turn helical connected to my laptops wifi card (20% signal with -81dbm without external antenna).

Definitely a great review and confirms aspects of my experience with using the product. My experience using the EDUP v Sunhans amplifiers on a DJI Phantom 3 Standard is that the lower power Sunhans amplifiers provide a stronger cleaner signal and thus a much longer reach. Using panel antennas and Sunhans 2.5w 2.4ghz and 2w 5.8ghz, I have both signals out to a distance of 7km (absolute limit of battery endurance) whereas with the EDUP 4w and 5w respectively, I start to lose control signal (5.8ghz) at 4km. I would be interested in seeing a comparative test of the Sunhans amplifiers

Using this amp with a much larger 9dBi segmented Omni antenna results in a cool amp. I've tried it as an AP and Station on a USB adaptor and direct to a TP-Link range extender. That is with various videos being run to load up the network. It works very well and drags in signals from across the next few streets. More than a 9dBi antenna on it's own. The bigger antenna is the best and cheapest upgrade. This just takes it a few steps further. I saw the vid on RF cables and the ones that come with the longer antennas have a mag mount and 1M or more cable. Ditch the cable and screw the antenna to the router, extender or antenna direct. Makes a big difference as measured on this channel.

You are absolutely right. There are cables capable of high frequencies, but those are far more expensive than screwing the WIFI-receiver/transmitter directly to your antenna and powering it over ethernet (PoE). Some high-frequency cables can cost hundreds of dollars/pounds per yard/meter. Cheap coax-cables give a huge loss. Increasing the power doesn't have the huge effect as the numbers would suggest. To double the effect at the same distance you'll need to increase the power by 8 times. It's far more efficient to use directional antennas and that disturbs the signals of your neighbours far less.

So if you amplify the transmit but not the receive, then what is good about that? If I have this connected on my router, that doesn't necessarily mean I can have a longer range coverage if the receiving end isn't also amplified, right? I mean my remote device, like my wifi connected cellphone/tablet, would be able to see my router BUT it would not be able to connect because the transmit signal on my phone/tablet wouldn't be strong enough for this amplified to pickup, right?

Andrew, a friend of mineI purchased a 2000mW 5.8mHz transmitter from China for FPV. He realizes that it can't be used in the US but wondered what kind of range could he expect to get from the simple dipole antenna that comes with it. I don't know the Brand but the top reads TX52W, It has a built in fan, a small blue LED inside that lights up when power is on, it also has a number of inputs and output pins marked S-CH | VIDI over S-V | VID2 each section has 3 pins over the top of the markings. A second set of markings and pins to the right of the first have the normal pins for an FPV transmitter sound and yellow red and black wires with voltage ranges from 7-24 volts. Speaking of sound, you sound like you're in a mine shaft, very muted, lots of bass, you would sound much better with mid-tone and high tone treble...

Hawk Moe I've already installed 24 of these amps at my clients homes. These are cheap $25 amps that work quite good. But if you buy Sunhans 4W amps. They work a whole lot better, but costs about $100,- for 4W 2.4GHz and $130,- for 5.8GHz. I use them for Wifi and RC Quadcopters and planes. I also installed them at 10 of my clients. They don't run hot like these ones. Have a lot less noise. And give a far better range.

absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for taking the time to do the video and set up the jig. I bought 2 of those exact amplifiers and one 5.8 which was actually very hard to get but they all match and connected it to my drone which happens to be a DJI Phantom 3 4K. I was awfully confused as the only thing that I have to go by are the specifications as testing equipment at that frequency is way too expensive and I haven't been in the amateur radio game and a very long time. anyway my results were about the same as yours in the physical. I improved my Wi-Fi Telemetry and Video Connection as well as control about 20% to 25%. now comes the confusing issue , if I brought one tenth of one Watt to 4 Watts, how come the increase was only 20%? I know there are a lot of factors and I won't bother listing them but somehow I am wondering if I'm over driving the front end of this little amplifier. any thoughts? just getting a matching Network would probably be expensive if I couldn't build it and I don't want to put an attenuator on it as my fear is that it would then limit the receive which is absolutely essential in bipolar Direction. so frustrating but I only spent $24.54 on each amplifier compared to double triple or quadruple that of others with the same or less specifications. if you have any thoughts or suggestions to improve my results I would gladly make a donation. Would it work at all at half the voltage? Even if it does, the power would probably be less than half at half the voltage since currents would also be less. Maybe three-quarters voltage would be a better bet? If some transistors aren't opening fully because the voltage is too low, they might drop too much voltage, overheat and break, IDK.

Andrew has far more knowledge and experience than I, but here's my 2-cents: In communication both ends are transmitters as well as receivers. There are always packages of data going to and from. Therefor each transmitter is also a receiver and the other way around. If you are downloading, you are also uploading acknowledgements of the data received. Often though the speeds don't have to be equal. Often the download speed can be higher because receiving the full data costs more data transfer than the acknowledgement. That's called asynchronous: your connection is optimized for your use of downloading. If however the acknowledgment of receiving the data doesn't reach the sender, the sender will send the package of data again (and again and again) which makes the transmission very slow. The wattage on the receiving end only influences the power for sending data or acknowledgements. It cannot increase the power of the packages of data received. The signals received are picked up by the antenna and disturbed by all the other signals in the same frequency-range. If you use an amplifier on the receiving end, you not only amplify the data you want to receive, but also the disturbance of the signals you want to exclude. Therefor using an amplifier on the receiving end is quite useless. You'd better use a directional antenna that only takes the signals you need.

Don't buy this thing if you want faster internet or longer range with flying thing. Buy this if you need amplification with massive amounts of noise. Yes you can see much more access points when scanning but try test speed. Speed test shows extremely poor speed even with close APs because of noise. And for fpv forget it. Tested in both environments.

It`s the best test of amplifier!!! I always wanted to see characteristic of 2.4GHz amplifier and all it noises with spectrum analyzer. It is very helpful. Could you test the speed of connection with this amplifier? Can it correctly work with high speed standards like 802.11n or it reduce speed ?

The speed is completely dependent on all external factors: distance, line of sight, disturbing other signals etc.

I've just bought this edup 4w amp as an upgrade and pleased to see your test shows it outputs the claimed power, have you ever tested the turbowing RY-2.4? I've had one on my rc transmitter for a few years and its not clear what they output. Sellers state it as a 1w amp but the manual says its 1w in one part and 2w in another part but opening the unit and looking up the output transistor brings up a part that can output 2.5w. I've always been sure its kicking out more than 1w. Another module I'm interested in knowing about is the Wii-link XQ-02A which claims 2w from a 100mw input, and thinking of using them as part of my open HD FPV system as they are very lightweight and can be carried on board a plane :)

Hi, I got this amplifier a few days ago and I have tried to connected with my MJX Bugs 2SE and it seems that with a battery bank or a battery doesn't work properly, if I use the given power supply or a 12volt supply through a phone charger it seems to work fine !!! What am I doing wrong?

@@JRMOBILE I think your boost module is the problem, they can affect rf gear really badly as the way they invert the voltage causes a tonne of interference. Have you tried to power the amp straight from a 2 or 3s lipo?

@@stevefox3763 No, not yet anyway, that would be my last resort, I will buy a 3s lipo and take it from there thank you, much appreciated 😄👍

You are correct . Sunhans are far superior and run cooler also. Suggest N connectors over other however
@ernestoditerribile
@ernestoditerribile 7 жыл бұрын
Yor Highness you get N connectors on 10, 20, 30W and outdoor versions. But that kind of power is most of the times unnecessary. You only need that kind of power if you live on a farm, or have a very big warehouse, terminal or factory. But for that kind of companies I'll advise to buy a mesh network from brands like Strix or Ruckus. Those systems work really great. With strix you could still connect 4 directional Yagi Antenna's per mesh router. You could still connect 10W amps on them if you don't want to buy to many Strix routers.

The unit of measurement for power is Watt, denoted by a large W. The Chinese note the units of measure with w or W as they do not distinguish uppercase letters from lowercase letters - they have a different alphabet. I watch your videos and I appreciate them. Are you Chinese? James Watt was Scottish, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Watt and www.britannica.com/science/watt-unit-of-measurement.
