So like I went to cosmetology school and got “trained” in acrylic nails but it’s SOOOO hard to do it on yourself so you did a great job considering when I did my first poly gel nails on myself it was soooo bad and they were so sticky I hated it I just went back to acrylic but anyways great job!❤️

The first time I did polygel nails on myself it took about 9 hours in total. Now I can do all 10 fingers in less then 3 hours🤗

So, my first ever gel nail experience was absolutely horrible, and since you asked I felt the need to tell you about this beautiful story. One fine day I just had this desire to do my nails so I went to a random nail salon nearby. She cut off pieces of my cuticles and my fingers were ✨bleeding✨ and it was very painful, but since I have never done this before, I thought that was the normal thing to happen. Then she proceeded to do all the nail stuff after that, while my fingers were still ✨bleeding✨. The bleeding stopped after a while and so I went home, but it hurt so bad for a few more days (I work in a hospital so I had to constantly sanitize my hands before and after every patient and let me tell ya - this shit burns). Then after a while my nails grew a bit, because of course they did and on another fine day my thumbnail broke in half. I couldn't cut it off because the gel polish made my nails thick af, so I had to put bandaids on it for two weeks and put on rubber gloves every time I went to shower. So needless to say, I'm never getting gel nails again.

A few tips; Try not to use too much slip solution - wipe off the brush a bit after dipping it in the solution and gently pat the poly gel in the nail forms Make sure that both edges of the nail form touch the edges of your nail to ensure that they fit well Filing can salvage your nails - shaping and filing is keyyyy

I got acrylics done for a year and i love them so much, my nail artist was SO talented and took so much care of my nails. Now a can’t get my nails done for money problems, but my natural nails are so strong and healthy thanks to her work plus my nail care habits. Have a good nail artist is fundamental (Sorry, English is my second lenguage)

I used to go to a nail saloon for like 3 years. It was a really cheap salon (they charged like 13€ for a whole manicure including gel nails and design and all that shits and giggles) and I always had a great experience. The nails looked awesome, they lasted at least 4 weeks before the gap was wayyy to big and the quality was actually really good for 13€. But one day, about 2 years ago, I went there as usual, got my nails done, yadda yadda yadda, 3 days later I got a really disgusting infection on all my nail beds, so after it all was healed I was too afraid to go there again (I had a whole lot of pain in that time, took about 2 months). Now I'm working at a hospital and I am not allowed to wear fake nails anymore.

I once or so did mine at home with Polygel and it took forever but looked amazing. Lasted about half an hour lol

No no no never file the nail! Just buffing with a buffer. A lot of nail salons do this as well, I know but that is a step there you harm your nail. Never file the nail. Just the end. Never on top 😂 ( I'm not a licensed nailtech, but my mom did her gel nails for years and I started it as well a few years ago. I think I know some shit) (And I tried poly gel as well from Amazon I hated it 😂) The problem with polygel is, you can't get the right biult up on the right spots. So they normally don't last that long. Unless you do some work as well. Oh and a final tip!! Never do your non dominat hand first. If you are left handed, work on the left hand first. You'll use all you motivation for the first and. That's why the second hand is mostly a bit ratched.

omg i had extremely similar nails to yours and i followed simplynailogicals advice and started putting jojoba and vitamin e oil on them all the time (legit 3 times a day) and now they're growing SO well, my cuticles are gorgeous and they're stronger! it even made me stop picking at them too

The piece that was on the drill is for natural nails. Also when you push the dual form down before you cure it you should make sure the shape underneath it is what you want.

I bit my nails to nothing up until about 5 years ago and then never did anything with them because they were so thin and weak. Then I started keeping a gel overlay on them and they've grown SO LONG! Now I use polygel cuz it's easier for me and doing my nails is my weekly therapy, so don't give up Naomi!

Love this! Don’t stop trying. I love my poly gel nails now. When I started they looked like ugly blobby blobs on my nails. Soooo your top coat did that because your nails were still shiny. You have to buff that to get it to stick. Also use dehydrator on your natural nails after buffing and they’ll last longer. Oh and you can flip your hand when the form is on your finger and smooth the underside before curing to get it nice and shmooooth. And if you mess up your cuticles... stick gems there 😂 Enjoy!

In all fairness, from a nail techs point of view - I think you did really good! Especially since I have personally never used duel forms or polygel, and it seems like it has quite the learning curve! I just stick to regular builder gel and tips. My only "tip" is really just some advice to save yourself from more pain. 😝 When you put your hand into the lamp, if/when it starts to burn, take your hand out for a few seconds and then put it back in. That way it doesn't heat up any further and cause even more pain! What you're experiencing is called "heat spikes" it happens when you have thin nails or if they've been overly filed. Cheaper gels tend to burn more, but my nails are thin like yours and I experience heat spikes even with expensive gels. So it's something we just gotta deal with! 😜

She would form them with powder and they always looked perfect. It was super relaxing and never hurt. Once my real nails grew out a little, I stopped getting them and I never bit them again. It's been about 10 years. My nails are still not hard so I think they will always be that way!*

During quarantine I'd use the good press=on's and Poly gel they lasted almost a month and I literally HAD to soak my nails in acetone when I was ready to change them (took me almost 3 hours to do but sooo worth it) if I had the patience and time to do this again it's a huge money saver only thing I regularly had to get was press-on's which is 3-4 dollars every month or so pretty reasonable ( I always got the really good press-on's with designs on them to save time)

My nail tech instincts kicked in the moment she started talking about her experiences with getting nails done, I want to show her nails the love they deserved PSA; if your nail is burning after a product is being applied it’s a sign of an over filed nail, it means your nails are weak and need looking after. But to get rid of the burning you can just tap the finger that is burning and it should go away quicker

You can always apply a second layer in the dual form after curing... its easier in a sense instead of doing one layer too thick then it won’t cure all the way through

Every time I got my nails done it was an awful experience. I tried different salons and everything and every time they hurt me and my nails were so sore afterwards. The last time I got them done was 2012. I envy the people that go and have a lovely experience and find it relaxing. I hate it haha and I probably always will 😂

I do my own polygel. And those are actually full cover tips, not dual forms, so you yould get away with leaving them on. And if you get some builder gel you can apply them by them self and add polish on top. Or build polygel over it

Thanks to Amazon I started doing poly nails a few months ago and LOVE it! It definitely takes practice but the money you save is totally worth it ❤️

I relate so much. I've been biting my nails since I was 5 or 6. They were my biggest insecurity, so I started getting acrylics. When I would walk into the shop, they would argue on who had to take me. I eventually switched to glue ons now that they have cuter ones.

When you put the form on, you also should clean the edges up with the slip solution and flatten the underneath part of the form with slip. You did a great job for the first time! Keep practicing!

Poly gel using the forms (no tips glued on) are the easiest to pop off & don’t cause any damage. I get tired of having nails after like a week, so I pop mine off everytime

I use clear press on nails and adhere them with gel base and then gel polish, top coat and done! They last 2-3 weeks!

Naomi, it isn't supposed to burn tho 😳😳 It happens to me too sometimes because some of us may have more sensitive nails but I have a lamp with a specific setting that lowers the heat while extending the cure time. If you think you will do your nails more often in the future, I recommend checking a better lamp with the heat setting and with both UV and led light 😊 Btw, my first attempt at polygel wasn't nearly as good as yours, trust me, you didn't do that bad 😂

Pick up the polygel n scrape it off into the dual form n use the slip solution to pat it down thin but not to thin n let it sit for a few minutes so the bubbles pop especially if ur using clear polygel, also it helps to have ur hand with ur nails facing down kind of like ur admiring your nails so the base coat or top coat don't flood your cuticles or side walls cuz that causes lifting

Horror experience: so, my nails are kinda sensitive and after a long time i went to get gel nails, and the dude who did my nails took off the form SO AGGRESSIVELY (or smth was wrong with the form idk) that (a little more than) half of my nail just said good-bye and came off. After a little blood and traumatic realization i got home with nearly half a nail on my pointing finger. Since then my nail grew back and i use special products that make my nails a bit thicker and useable.
