For anyone who wants to understand testing the 5 most important water parameters in your reef tank. Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium, Nitrate and Phosphate. We got em all! I am using Hanna Checkers because they are considered the best at a hobby reef keeping level.
You can get better testing equipment and you can get much worse. The key to keep a healthy reef is having an understanding of what is happening in your reef tank so that you can implement minor adjustments to help maintain a perfect balance. Hanna Checkers do just that for you!

I mentioned earlier the idea of making minor adjustments to maintain a perfect balance in your reef tank. It's the feeling of being able to use an iron fist and destroy the entire ecosystem overnight...or to use a gentle touch and to maintain balance quietly observing a little slice of the ocean in your space. That feeling is what we love about reef keeping and nature in general. That feeling that reminds us we are creators. Meditate on that one ✌️

Its nice to see someone explaining how all the tests are conducted. Just a couple minor corrections that may help in the future. Reagent is pronounced re-agent. Also, they provide you with plastic tips for the 1 ml syringes. Use those on reagents so the chemical never goes into the syringe itself. Just pull the plunger up all the way and 1 ml is drawn into the tip. Easier cleaning and you don't actually need to measure on the syringe itself. Lastly, store the cleaned cuvettes with rodi water in them to absorb any residue from the glass while in storage. This all comes from the owner of Hanna in an interview with Reef Builders. Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to help.

I really appreciate it! Especially the plastic tip thing. I thought it was just to reach further but ya the cleaning makes total sense.

Thank you for this demo. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to invest in the Hanna system but, you explained it well. Btw: I like your sense of humor.

Its worth it. To be honest I don't use the tests often but even once a month it makes your life a lot easier and more pleasant.

I highly recommend the High Range nitrate marine checker they sell. You'll be much more satisfied. Only one packet, and a range of error of 2ppm.

Ya...to be honest I didn't know about it until after I made this. I contacted the guy who made the tray and whined about how it didn't fit and he educated me haha.

I'¡ve seen in other videos that fingerprints might disturb the reading. I'd. do this with gloves!
@TinyWorldLaboratory
@TinyWorldLaboratory 2 ай бұрын
They might. I try to wipe the bottles and shake by touching the top and bottom. Gloves isn't a bad idea but seems a little over the top for me personally.

@@TinyWorldLaboratory Touching just top and bottom is a good idea also. However, knowing how forgetful I am I would do it with gloves to get accurate readings because sooner or later I´m touching it my dirty fingers haha!. Right, it sounded a little over the top, but a expensive gadget like this "99 euros" over here deserves some care! Thanks for the reply!

@@UnMinutoViajando Agreed! Now I just wish they'd somehow get rid of those powder packs because those things....those are annoying! Especially when you spill a little and wonder if you just wasted your time taking the measurment.

It's doing mediocre. I had a crash that took out most of my sps and I've just been sorta maintaining it for the past few months. Eventually I'll get back in there and get some more life in it.

@@TinyWorldLaboratory Maybe its too complicated? I would take everything off and just use biological filters and maybe a filter sock. I have a 26 gallon nano red sea that I set up in January, My first tank ever and its been running great! NOTHING but tampa bay sand, rock, and bio balls in the back along with a filter sick. I've added 20 corals and two fish, nothing has died. Quite the opposite, everything is growing like crazy! K.I.S.S. Keep It Stupid Simple. I know you got most of this gear as a bundle from someone, but that doesnt mean you have to use it. Hope you have more luck in the future!

@@TinyWorldLaboratory I dose half saturated lime water, that's it, just to maintain my alkalinity at 8.5-8.9. Its 99% LPS. Scolys, torches, hammers, gonis, favites, blastos and one anemone and some zoas + a few mushrooms. One clownfish and a six line wrasse I feed twice a day. But i feed only enough to make sure there are as little food particles floating around as possible when the fish are done eating. Then I feed a little less than 1/4 teaspoon of reefroids + coral aminos (target feed) twice a week. Keeps my phosphate at .1-.17 and my nitrates between 12 and 15. I test those two + salinity twice a week, and alkalinity daily. I hope to see some cool videos of this tank making a comeback! Everyone loves a good comeback story

I did a little update on my tour video a few back. The tank went through a little crash and I lost most of the corals. The mandarin goby also died and I haven't added anything since. I'll do another update soon though! I've been wanting to get some more corals back in there and I've been thinking a flame angel would be the perfect 3rd companion to go with the wrasse and the clown. Thanks for askin!
