Testing An ULTRA FINESSE Ned Rig At A Pond!

You may be wondering what I mean by the phrase "Ultra Finesse". Fair - let me explain... What would happen if Finesse Fishing & Ultralight Fishing had a baby? Ultra Finesse! Today's choice? A Micro Ned Rig!
As bass fishing continues to grow and many bodies of water get heavily pressured, I feel that taking traditional finesse techniques and going just a little smaller will be such a good way to increase the quantity of fish you catch. Just a theory - I am going to experiment with this concept a lot over the next year. Stay tuned!
If you have any ultra finesse fishing ideas, let me know! I definitely think smaller-than-average drop shots, split shot rigs, ned rigs, (and so on and so forth) will be where I start!

In today's trip, I was only out there for a hair over an hour so I didn't have huge expectations. I caught a handful of dinks and a couple bonus crappie. I certainly won't complain. Ultimately, I learned a little bit about my new idea. This TRD TicklerZ rigged backwards on the 1/32oz Mule Jig will be insanely deadly for fish keying in on slow-falling finesse patterns. When the right situation presents itself, I will be busting this out!

Man the change in time with daylight saving is totaling screwing up fall fishing! You’re killing the fall finesse fishing :o

Finesse fishing is what I know best so I just figured I’d go heavy on it to end my fall/winter season 😢

I like the large ultra light lures, they filter out the smaller panfish but still catch bass.

Yeah those TubeZ are super slow falling. Could be good in really shallow water or when the river is low. Get after them buddy!

I’ve tried ultralight drop shot in the spring with small ice jigs and gulp minnows or leaches. You can dance it in their face without moving it off the bed lots of fun.

Also try it with a TRD SpinZ rigged in it :) I haven’t caught anything on it yet (I’ve only thrown it once) but it’s looks great in the water!!! The day I threw it I really didn’t catch much in anything else either.

Do you think on pressured waters as people switch to finesse it will tip to a point where older styles will fall back into play ?

100% I think older styles are already great options due to the fact that many people don't throw them!

Might have to try out the ticklerz, think I have a pack somewhere lol I usually only use the trds, for some reason I have the worst luck with creature and tube baits lol just need to get rid of the kidney stones and hit the water or the bank. I’m having fishing and kayak withdrawals, last time I went was in October 😐

can you use half a 4 inch finesse worm as a ned rig? would it effective?

Definitely! I have experimented with that a lot. I like the Yamamoto Kut Tail on a 1/64oz or 1/32oz Mule Jig. It crushes.

Something to be aware of is when your fingers are cold they shrink slightly. Almost lost my wedding ring to a pond the first winter I was married.

It is actually a Fitbit & it is a cheap band from Amazon! I do like the bright orange too. My wife thinks it's a bit much but.... I like it :)

What's your setup as far as rod, reel and line?

This is a discontinued Mag Light G Loomis GL2 Rod. ML is what I recommend for Ned Rigs. Reel is a Shimano Stradic 2500 spooled up with 10# sunline xplasma line and a 7lb sunline fluoro leader.
