I started making candles about 4 years ago. I have never used any other wax. It looks great and has amazing hot and cold throw. I heat to 200, add color at 180, fragrance at 170, pour at 160. Watched a video of a candle co and decided to go with her info…happy I did. Use CD wicks and wooden. Love my candles (mostly make for friends and family)….yes I’m one of those perfectionist that lets wet spots drive me crazy! Loved your video!!

I really like joywax. Compared to 464 this wax performs much better. it is more of a mess, as far as sticky than 464 flakes, but the performance of joywax is superior.

Hey Jeff, I've been playing with Joy wax since I started. I use a CD wick. I'm like you I dont care about glass adhesion but NG recommends adding crisco oil if its something you want. I heat to 200 add color at 170-175 add fragrance at 165-160 and pour. Works best for me. I love this wax for everything!!! Even clam shells. Though I usually just use the cups to sell.

Love this wax! I've noticed that I did need to wick down, especially with the CD wicks. I've been a little hit or miss with their dye blocks...the purple didn't turn out good for me. @@ilaydasayin9257 They turned out very well! Good cold and hot throw. Im using a 13 ounce jar and I tested one using the Eco8 wick that was suggested and one using the CD10 which is one size down from the CD12 I used on my first attempt. I also only did one wick instead of 2 like I did before which I believe is the reason why my jar heated up and burst on my first attempt because I've since learned that the circumference of my jar is not really big enough to require a double wick. Both wicks performed great! Good even melt pool after 3-4 hours and good hot throw.

@@shannaelizabeth_1 I've tried various brands or both FO and EO. Lone Star, Candle Science, Natures Garden, etc. I love the glass adhesion of this wax and the buttery top it leaves behind. No matter how long I let it cure I get huge mushroom wicks and puffs of black smoke. I've tried down sizing the wick, cutting back on the oils but I end up with the same result. I was curious if Standley Handcrafted was having the same results. I haven't seen many people test this wax on video; only those who say they have used it and love it. Oh man I probably did mine way wrong First time candler pourer here (today)🙋‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Made -drumroll- one 4oz candle with the joy wax and it seemed really easy I’ve heard some candle making horror stories. However I believe I screwed it up because my melting point for me was only 120F and my fragrance flash point was 134F… so I brought it up to 140F and then cooled to 130 and added fragrance. Stored for few minutes and then immediately poured into a tin. I did not warm the tin. I did not bring it to 200F🙆🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ I don’t even know how long to let Joywax cure for 🤷‍♀️ I’m terrible at directions I’m like whatever I’ll just do it my way… and then we know how that turns out 🤣 do you HAVE to bring it up to 200F?

@@itsangiakalovejunkie Most people say you heat it higher to "open" the wax up and allow it to cool which helps the fragrance oil bind as it's cooling once the wax has been opened...it's a lot lol I was confused too

I’m having a heck of a time getting a good Cold and Hot throw from this wax. Followed directions to a T and also played around a bit but have yet to find anything that works. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m new to candle making and chose this wax for its ease of use and smooth tops. But i’m getting very discouraged. The candles themselves look amazing but i basically finish with a wax paperweight. A lot of times you wouldn’t even know there is a candle burning in the room unless its in a small room with the windows closed. I ordered some wood wicks to see if maybe the wicks im using are not sufficient, although i am using wicks that are recommended for joy wax. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions yall may have.

I’m having the same issues, I have increased my FO to 10% but doesn’t seem to be making much of a difference. I too followed the directions to a T and now am trying different things to see if it will help. I hope someone can help with this!

Hey! I know this is a really old video, but I'm wondering if you stuck with using Joy in your line? I've seen some post about potential fires from this wax, but I really like it. Any insight? Have you had issues with it? Thanks!

Did you have luck with the CD wicks in the joy wax? I didn't have luck, but, am considering switching to wood wicks. Will try HTP & zinc as well. Also, I have a laser thermometer & am wondering if I should switch to one like yours.

Kelcy, I hope you did change. I, too, was using a laser thermometer and it was a disaster for me personally. One day I couldn't find it and switched to a meat thermometer. The difference in the performance of the wax during heating, adding fragrance, and pouring was significant. And yes, I was stirring the wax just before taking my temps. I'll never use laser thermometers again.
