I have a stack of lightly scratched PS2 games sitting around. I thought it was about time to try out some of the at home methods for getting them working again.

A particular cd of mine has been bad. There was nothing I did not do for six years to fix it to no avail. After watching this video, I tried crest toothpaste, applying it lavishly and leaving it for ten minutes before wiping it off with cotton wool (thrice). It worked like a charm to my disbelief.

I have recently bought a PS2 game with the same Tomb Raider issue. I tried toothpaste and polishing material with no sucess, After I watched the vaseline method (I had alred watched this video some months ago, but now this tip really shoned), I gave it a try and it works! I think this is the best method for those that are having the same problem to repair their PS2 Discs ( I'm not quite sure if it will work with another disc issues on other consoles) . Nice tip, man. I like the OJ gloves and using a towel on the surface. I think car wax would be the answer. I usually clean my used discs with warm water and 2 paper towels sections. 1st one for cleaning, 2nd one for polish and dry. It usually works on 95% but there are some that are digitally locked up and you need to 'short out' the block. Sometimes libraries put on anti-theft devices that can become 'charged' so you will need to clean thoroughly. When the static charge pops you can hear it in the speakers.

VASELINE METHOD WORKS WELL! even either the coco butter version. My DVD player went from saying it has a problem reading the disk. To reading it in less than 30 seconds. I previously tried soap and water with toothpaste. Did not work. I used the Vaseline was unsure because it was the coco butter version, but it worked like a charm. Wiped it off with a towel. Put it in the player and within less than 30 seconds it was already reading it and has worked like a charm since. High recommend the Vaseline method for scratched music cds, DVDs, blu rays, and more. Loved this method. I was so excited and happy something finally worked.

Methodology leaves a lot to be desired but given the limited "everything" you did alright Tip: Typical buffing/sanding is done orbitally because it travels repeatedly over adjacent areas in forward motion multiplying actual surface coverage and minimalising potential over pressuring Mind you, 2k grade wetNdry sandpaper followed by 2.5k will fix all scratches and then light buff with no pastes, 3 minutes max 😎
@Economics21st
@Economics21st 10 ай бұрын
I followed another video which suggested 2K then 2.5K, then some paste. I used a 3K (wet), which actually left it looking pretty scratched. Maybe I did something wrong, but buffing didn't seem to help after that. Some headlight restoration abrasive polish was getting it better, but it was still obviously scratchy. The last thing I tried was neutral shoe polish, which has got the DVD mostly playing, but with the odd glitch. Maybe I'll try the toothpaste and vaseline next.

Even verified cleaners like Novus can take 2-10 cleanings to work. Some of these will likely work if you do multiple applications. It’s also a disc by disc process. Meaning some of these may work on another. No fix corrects everything

It would have been nice, at the end of all of the attempted repairs, if you had tried the petroleum jelly on the ones that did not repair with the other methods to see if the petroleum would be successful in ultimately repairing all of the discs. If there were still discs that the petroleum jelly could not repair, then the success or failure of each method was more dependent on the individual condition of the disc, rather than the method being used to repair it. It could be that the toothpaste and the magic eraser method might work on some discs, whereas another method might work better on other discs. Just a thought.

Hi James. Toothpaste worked for me. The trick is to use a small amount of toothpaste in conjunction with a small amount of water. Step 1: Squeeze a small amount of toothpaste onto your bare index finger and transfer the toothpaste onto the disc with your finger. Step 2: Smear out the toothpaste just a little bit, and now add a few drops of water onto your finger and add those drops of water to the toothpaste that's on the disk. Step 3: Now smear the watery toothpaste around on the disc using your finger for a half minute or less. The toothpaste will be of a loose and soapy consistency. Step 4: Wash away the toothpaste with cold or slightly warm running water. Let dry. Toothpaste is basically soap; however, I wouldn't use hand soap on the disk because it would probably leave a residue on the disk, wear as the toothpaste is designed to wash away.

It didn't wreck mine but it did make it slightly worse. Toothpaste doesn't completely ruin a game unless you put too much on it.

💀 You just bricked your Playstation. You know that, right? Some PS2s have discrete logic chips that brick the console if you insert an invalid disc into the system.
@lucymorrison
@lucymorrison 9 ай бұрын
he could play games after inserting a disc it recognised as invalid. If the console was “bricked” it wouldn’t do anything, except maybe show an error message or a red light. The PlayStation 2 doesn’t brick when you insert a disc it thinks isn’t a game or dvd/cd because of exactly this, Sony would have had to know that the disc reader could pick up scratched discs as an invalid format so of course they wouldn’t lock the entire console over it.
